As the mayor, I’d like to personally welcome you to the beautiful city of Gardendale. Located only fifteen minutes from downtown Birmingham our unique locations allow our residents to enjoy the benefits that a big city offers, such as sports, entertainment and exquisite dinning while living in a small town that is know throughout the state for its charm and sense of community. As a born and raised, lifelong resident of Gardendale of 66 years, it’s a great place to live, work and play. And it’s a place that I chose to raise my children and now watch my grandchildren grow up.
Our business community is growing at an unprecedented pace. Over the last two years, we have added national brands, such as Olive Garden, Longhorn Steakhouse, Chipotle, Chicken Salad Chick, Jersey Mike’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, Taziki’s, Taco Mama, Guthrie’s, Santos Coffee and Ulta Beauty, with Wood’s Trading Company, 24E Fitness and Sonic soon to follow. This historic momentum continues to spread, and we plan to capitalize on it. Our Gardendale Chamber of Commerce does a great job in helping every business, both large and small, be successful year in and year out. If you’re looking to start or open a business, there has never been a better time or a better place to choose.
There are many reasons to choose Gardendale for your personal or business needs. First, we are a very safe city with a low crime rate, and we have excellent employees in both our police and fire departments, all who dedicate their lives daily to serve and protect you. This year, we are also adding a third fire station to better protect the local businesses and residents.
On the education side, we offer two private schools and four public schools that we are very proud of. On the public school side, we are very proud partners with JefcoEd, and we are both committed to making our local schools the very best they can be.
Our city is proud to offer several facilities designed to enhance the quality of life that our citizens expect and deserve. Our Civic Center serves as the hub of our city providing opportunities such as a gymnasium, walking tracks (indoor and outdoor), weight rooms, meeting rooms and an exhibition hall. There’s also an amphitheater and
lots of green space that allows us to offer special community events on a regular basis and our yearly Magnolia Festival that attracts 40,000 visitors from across the Southeast in the spring. Also, adjacent to the Civic Center, we have a first-class Senior Center that provides unique offerings for our senior community. Just down the road is our recently renovated Library, that we are very proud of; located in a peaceful, serene setting, it is a great place to read, study or socialize with many activities designed for those of all ages.
On the recreation side, our parks are second to none. We recently completed a major renovation of Kenny Clemons Park, where we offer soccer fields, playground, splash pad, dog park, biking and hiking trails, flag football fields, as disc golf course and maintenance facility. Additionally, other parks are located throughout the city with more playgrounds, athletic fields and a field dedicated to those with special needs, Pat Field—our “Field of Miracles.”
But, the crown jewel of all our parks is Bill Noble Park, which opened in 2023. It is a community park designed to meet the needs of all ages. We invested $32 million to build the nicest park in the state of Alabama that is within a half-mile of I-65. The park consists of nine baseball or softball fields and a football/soccer field (all synthetic turf), two concession stands, a huge playground with pavilions, eight tennis courts, 11 pickleball courts, an event venter and even a putting green. During the week, Bill Noble Park is designed to meet the needs and expectations of the local community. Then, on the weekends, it serves as an economic development engine, attracting sports teams from across the Southest, which helps all of our local businesses.
Everything that I have mentioned above would not be possible without the cooperation and teamwork of our city employees and city council. This team of approximately 200, is here for one reason and that is to serve the residents and visitors of our community. I hope you check us out on your own and just see for yourself that Gardendale, truly, is a great place to live, work and play.
In closing, it’s an honor to serve as the Mayor of our great city. If I, or any member of our team, can help you in any way, please feel free to reach out to us. As I’ve said many times before, “Great Things Are Yet to Come in this City!”
Mayor Stan Hogeland
LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
On behalf of the Gardendale Chamber of Commerce, I’m delighted to extend our heartfelt: WELCOME!
Gardendale is home of the Rockets, lovers of magnolias and the original Jugtown fanbase. Most importantly, we are a community of big ideas, actions rooted in integrity and a steady pulse of doing right, doing well and doing things together.
Our city’s history and future are built on the power of collaboration. Working at the Chamber allows me to continue weaving the fabric of Gardendale’s existence by assisting the city, businesses, schools and the community in working together to achieve greater success. Our mayor lovingly states that “greater things are still to come for Gardendale,” and we wholeheartedly agree.
Whether you are with us visiting, working, or establishing roots for your business or family, we define success by making sure those we interact with know that they are not “life-ing” in Gardendale alone. At the chamber, we are constantly looking for and sharing the connections that create a thriving environment. An atmosphere where visitors want to linger, businesses flourish and individuals/families know that through life’s highs and lows they have cheerleaders and support every step of the way.
Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or ideas you would like to discuss. Give us a call and stop in if you have a moment. Our office is located inside the Civic Center on Main St. If you’re new, we can’t wait to meet you. If Gardendale has been your stomping ground for a while, then we’re eager to continue our conversations. The Gardendale Chamber’s official motto is: We create, build and empower connections to foster growth in our businesses and community.” To each and every one of you we extend an open invitation to join us in creating the sappiest love story that a city’s ever told.
Once again, welcome from the Gardendale Chamber of Commerce!
Always a great day to be a Rocket!

ABOUT US: CHAMBER HISTORY
The Gardendale Chamber of Commerce began as a small but determined group of local business leaders, who saw the potential for their growing town. New roads and an influx of families were main factors that transitioned Gardendale from a quiet farming community into a suburban hub. As businesses started to pop up, the need for a unified voice to promote economic growth and support local entrepreneurs became clear.
In response, the Chamber of Commerce was established in 1987, with the goal of fostering a strong business community and promoting Gardendale as a great place to live, work, and shop. The early Chamber meetings were modest, often held in local restaurants or community centers, where members would discuss ways to support one another and attract new businesses to town.
As Gardendale grew, so did the Chamber. Playing a pivotal role in organizing events like the annual Gardendale Christmas Parade, local business expos, and community festivals that draw visitors from surrounding areas, the Chamber’s goal is to help shape Gardendale into a vibrant suburban city, with a strong sense of community and a desirable location for both families and businesses.
With a diverse membership of over 200 investors (which includes everyone from small business owners to large corporations) the Gardendale Chamber of Commerce is more than just a place to join—it’s a place to make an impact. A place where ambitious individuals can connect, launch ideas, and contribute to a thriving local economy.
The Chamber’s evolution reflects Gardendale’s growth, adapting to new trends and technologies while staying true to its mission of supporting local businesses and fostering growth and connections with community spirit. What started as a small group of local entrepreneurs has grown into a powerful organization that plays a key role in the ongoing success of Gardendale, proving that when a community comes together, it can achieve great things.

ABOUT US: GARDENDALE
THEN & NOW
The Gardendale community gathers for the Magnolia Festival each summer. P E R M A N E N T J E W E L R Y
In the early 1800s, Gardendale was a wild frontier where brave families carved out a life from the rugged land. They built farms, raised families, and slowly a community began to take shape. As the years passed, the little settlement began to grow. By the turn of the century, it had earned the nickname “Jugtown,” after a local pottery factory. Yes, known for crafting jugs and pots that were shipped across the region, a pottery factory put the town on the map.
In 1906, Jugtown’s people began to yearn for a name that would reflect not just what they made, but who they were. A local school teacher, Hettie Thompson Cargo, started a campaign to change the town’s name. Two names were then placed into a hat and by way of the draw, Jugtown became Gardendale.
As the 20th century rolled on, Gardendale transformed from a small farming town into a bustling suburb. The construction of U.S. Route 31 connected it to the outside world, bringing new families and businesses. Gardendale grew quickly, but it held onto its close-knit community vibe.
Today, Gardendale stands as a testament to the spirit of those early pioneers. It is a place where history and progress walk hand in hand, where new homes rise beside old landmarks, and where the community gathers each year to celebrate its heritage with festivals, parades, and the simple joy of being together.
Gardendale is no longer just a place on a map; it’s a story, one that originated with determination and vision and continues in those same pursuits. A city that continues to evolve and thrive while still cherishing its roots and holding on to its identity.
Gardendale, Alabama..its best chapters are still being written.
