FOUNDER’S NOTE
It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
I love the Holidays. From gathering with family for dinner at Thanksgiving to worshiping with family at the Christmas Eve candlelight service, it is a wonderful time with friends and family to fellowship and share faith experiences.
This holiday edition of Enjoy Hoover has been a very fun issue to put together. We are sharing our favorite holiday meals and highlighting two of the best Italian restaurants in the state located right here in Hoover — Tre Luna Bar & Kitchen and Bellinis Ristorante.
We are celebrating The White House Interiors’ new Hoover store with owner Ann Marie James. After previously operating a store in the Greystone area of Hoover (and later moving it to Brook Highland), she is back in Hoover, filling a storefront along the busy Highway 150 corridor. The White House is a great place to buy a gift for that person on your list with exquisite taste.
Speaking of exquisite taste, I want to spend Christmas at the “castle” and relax at Ross Bridge
over the holiday…another great Christmas gift idea for a romantic getaway or day retreat gift certificate. Check out our story on this iconic destination.
Kim Cripps, a new writer for us, explores the large and ever growing “Hoover Makers’’ community. These crafters offer unique and custom gifts for almost everyone on your gift list. Many of them make truly “one of a kind” items that are made by hand, one at a time.
We cannot forget having fun! This issue features Christmas fun for families along with some “over 21” ideas for celebrating New Years in Hoover. Connect with Enjoy Hoover on Instagram and Facebook (@EnjoyHoover) to share your favorite Hoover holiday activity ideas and places to eat.
Wishing you a joyous and peace filled Christmas.

Holiday meals, TO-GO
BY MITZI EAKERWhen it comes to eating out, Enjoy Hoover has you covered at EnjoyHoover.com with information about all our local restaurants. However, every year during the holidays we need a few “go-to restaurants” that we can count on to feed the last minute or unexpected 10 to 20 friends, family, and students gathered in our homes for a meal. It is the holidays, so you must do better than pizza and finger foods. Here are a few restaurants and specialty groceries for pulling together great holiday meals or parties at the last minute. Let’s start with everyone’s favorite…
DESSERTS

Custom pies include original, pecan, orange cream cheese, marble chocolate, s’mores, coconut pineapple, and many more. These can be served as a dessert or a side dish. jawandasweetpotatopie.com
A local staple and go-to cake place is Edgar’s Bakery. My favorite is the round strawberry cake and round chocolate on chocolate cake. The round cakes feed 10-15 people. You can also special order sheet cakes to feed more people
with the same great taste. Edgar’s is also a great place to grab sweets and treats to create a sweet plate. Edgar’s has several locations throughout the greater Birmingham area, with two locations in Hoover: at Cadence Place on Cahaba Valley Road, and in Stadium Trace Village near I-459. edgarsbakery.com
SIDE DISHES
There are several places in Hoover that carry pans of dishes for quick pick up. One of my favorites is Ashley Mac’s. With two Hoover locations in Hoover (Cahaba Valley Road and Highway 31), it is an easy choice for pick up. Sides include baked cheese grits, brown sugar bacon green beans, mac and cheese, roasted red potatoes, squash casserole, and broccoli slaw. ashleymacs.com
Chef Shelby Adams at Hometown Fare in Ross Bridge is always cooking up something special, especially over the Holidays. Check with him to see what whole holiday meals are available that week. You can always count on our favorites to be available on a first come, first served basis, like maple roasted Brussels sprouts, mac and cheese, twice baked potato, and sweet potato casserole. hometownfareRB.com

Italian-themed FINE DINING
BY BEN WALKERHoover inspires both visitors and locals alike with Southern hospitality and culture that brings people together!
In addition to the local sites and sounds, visitors from all over will enjoy the international flavor of local restaurants and venues that bring themes from far away. Two
Italian restaurants in town bring rave reviews from locals on a regular basis.
TRE LUNA BAR & GRILL
With humble beginnings as a catering service, beginning in 2014, Brian Mooney has always maintained a passion for Italian cuisine. Ever since he was a child he has been a part of
Italian restaurants, loving the simple yet refined quality offered in Italian cooking.
Through offering his catering services over the years, Brian has been a part of offering local businesses, events, and activities with the finest quality Italian dining experiences!
“We appeal to date night couples wanting to enjoy fine wine or friends wanting to grab a specialty Italian pizza, in a flexible environment—the flexibility of being your neighborhood go-to spot yet sophisticated,” says Mooney. “We have a ‘downtown’ feel in a local context. There is an adult date atmosphere.”
After experiencing success in the catering space, he and his wife, Erin, opened Tre Luna Bar & Grill in the Village at Brock’s Gap, opening in March 2019.
Tre Luna allows guests to sense a tasty blend of Italian mixed with Hoover hospitality. Brian’s business exemplifies the high-quality date night experience locals have come to
BELLINI’S RISTORANTE
Connection—the element fine dining can bring when friends or lovers share a glass of Italian specialty wine!
With the goal of creating a dining experience where guests and locals connect, in a comfortable setting, birthed the vision of Doug Hovanec and Niki Corbett to open Bellini’s Ristorante in 2008. With deliciously crafted Tuscan Italian favorites cooked in the wood-burning grill, locals and visitors have the opportunity to enjoy seafood, meat selections in Birmingham’s only Italian infused steakhouse.
Doug and Niki’s dream of creating a comfortably sophisticated fine dining Italian experience, where Hoover and 280 visitors can enjoy connecting, is now a staple Hoover reality. Located just off of Cahaba Valley Road near the intersection with Highway 280, everyone is welcome to enjoy a delightful Tuscan dining evening during this holiday season.
HOLIDAYS
in Hoover
BY BEN WALKERIn the city of Hoover, visitors and locals alike find enjoyment in top-of-theline restaurants, entertainment venues, and activities famous to the city. Christmas and New Year’s are no different, with traditions unique to the city.
Nothing says “holiday” quite like hot chocolate, Santa Claus, lighting decorations, and, most importantly, family! Let’s open the “Hoover Christmas package” (a little early) and see all of the fun seasonal activities awaiting your crew.
CITY OF HOOVER CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING
What better way to start the holiday season than the lighting of the Hoover
Christmas tree at Hoover City Hall, right along the busy Highway 31 corridor and visible from I-459.
Mayor Frank Brocato, along with special guests from local schools and a local celebrity, emcee the city’s Christmas tree lighting each year. Residents of all ages gather around the 43-foot tree to celebrate and light up the evening to welcome the holiday season with hot cocoa and snacks. Festivities begin at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, November 29th at the parking lot of Hoover City Hall at 100 Municipal Lane.
After the tree has been lit, Santa will arrive on his sleigh, cleverly disguised as a fire truck, to the Hoover Public Library adjacent to City Hall. Children can visit
Santa on the Library Plaza. Each visitor will receive a free photo with the jolly old elf. Mrs. Claus, a team of elves and other costumed Christmas characters will also all be there to greet the kids!
HO HO HOOVER
Santa Claus is coming to the HooverRandle Home! The home will be filled with beautifully decorated Christmas trees. Plus, there will be great food from a local restaurant and entertainment provided by talent from the community and local schools.
Ho Ho Hoover is Sunday, December 4, 2022 at the Hoover-Randle Home, 2255 Tyler Road. Tickets will be available for purchase in the coming weeks and kids 12 and under are admitted free. For information and tickets, visit aldridgegardens.com

CHRISTMAS SERVICES AT LOCAL CHURCHES
Hoover has many churches across several denominations, and many of them offer special Christmas services on and leading up to Christmas day. Find out more by searching for a local place of worship on social media and checking out their events and postings.
Christmas at the Castle at Ross Bridge
BY CARMEN BROWNSince 2005, the Ross Bridge community in Hoover has been home to the Marriott
Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa. Covering 12,000 square feet with 259 guest rooms, Ross Bridge welcomes visitors with its captivating waterfalls and fountains as well as the third-longest golf course in the world that is part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Surrounded by a magnificent view of the foothills, it serves as a perfect spot for peace and relaxation.
But what many people don’t know is that for the last 10 years, during the holidays, this luxurious resort has been transformed into what people like to call a wondrous “Christmas Castle.”
Jonathan McKinney, director of sales and marketing since April of
2016, said preparations for Christmas at the resort begin the day after Thanksgiving, with the help of a company called Interiorscapes.
“It’s never more special to be here than around Christmas,” McKinney said. “It just becomes a magical castle. It’s a special time for people of all faiths and all walks of life. The décor assists us in bringing alive the spirit of Christmas.”
McKinney said that although the event
calendar for this year has not yet been finalized, holiday events commence the first week of December. Fireside readings in the lobby are held from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m., where local celebrities come in and read Christmas stories to children. This event is open to the public as well.
Past celebrities have included Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato, voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide Eli Gold, former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback John Parker Wilson, WBRC reporter and sports
anchor Jeh Jeh Pruitt, and ABC 3340 meteorologist James Spann. “We have hot cocoa, Christmas cookies, hot apple cider and Christmas cocktails for the adults,” McKinney said.
On the weekends, guests only can enjoy holiday movies on the big screen, and on a few Saturdays, they have Breakfast with Santa, which is also open to the public. McKinney said Ross Bridge has also recently undergone a full renovation, with a few more changes to come.
“New carpet, new TVs, desks, chairs, bedding, everything. We’re also renovating our meeting spaces with airwalls and new carpet.”
JT’s Cocktail Lounge has already been renovated, and McKinney said at some point in 2023 the coffee shop will be turned into a social room, similar to a Parisian bistro with various retail goods. Brock’s Restaurant will be renovated at a point yet to be determined, but it will have a new menu concept
McKinney said room packages and promotions will be available on their website, rosssbridgeresort.com, sometime in November. They will also post information and updates on their Facebook page.
“Moms and dads and grandparents have made Ross Bridge an annual visit to help make those holiday memories,” McKinney said.
The White House, a great place to outfit YOUR house
BY CARMEN BROWN“It will be beautiful. Thank you!” Owner Ann Marie James says to a customer as she walks out the door of The White House Interiors, Hoover’s one-stop shop for home furnishings and décor.
“Sofas, chairs, lighting, rugs, mattresses, dining room furniture, bedroom sets. Anything you would need for a home, we sell it,” James said. “We even have a beautiful art section.”
James said she has a staff of around 40 people split evenly between the warehouse and design teams.
“Our focus is retail sales, but we combine that with creative design, which makes us stand out. Once purchases are made, we can be out at someone’s house within a couple of days.”
James, a real estate investor who invests in lake properties in Nashville and Birmingham, grew up in Destin, Fla., and first moved to Birmingham to attend nursing school at Samford in the late 1980s. She began investing in homes and buying and selling in Destin in 2005 before moving back to Birmingham in 2013.
She opened her first store at Greystone Crossings in 2017, and within six weeks she was able to expand and use the space next door, taking it from 4,000 square feet to 8,000 square feet.
After a year and a half, after much success, she moved the store to the Brook Highland area, where it has been since spring 2019.
“The community has been pretty responsive to this kind of furniture design,” James said. “We offer a finer quality, higherend with a good value for the price.”
Now, just in time for the holidays, a new location opened on Sept.14 at 3230 Galleria Circle, an area that James and Riverchase Galleria management both agreed would meet demand from consumers in the surrounding area.
“We have a lot of people who come here from Nashville, Mississippi and Atlanta, and it’s so much quicker for them to come from I-459,” James said. “We have very active Tuscaloosa designers who like to come shop here, and this will be a convenient location for them.”
James said the Brook Highland store as well as the new Galleria store will hold an Open House the first week of November, featuring festive lighting, Christmas music and performances by local harpist Marsha Gunter.
“We will have a full set up of food and beverages, Christmas trees and ornaments. It will be a Winter Wonderland.”
The Open House will also be the debut of pre-wrapped Christmas gifts under $100. Gift certificates and signature candles will also be available.
“People can purchase these in the store or call us at 518-0798,” James said. “We can have them ready for pick- up in a couple of hours.”
The White House Interiors sees over 100 customers a week and completes around 20 home design projects a week, while also helping redecorate houses for celebrities in Nashville and Destin. James said she plans to open a Nashville store next year.
“Our goal is to be a one-source supercenter for furniture. People will come in and realize that’s what they want their house to look like.”
And, like she tells her customers, it will be beautiful.
10 Ways to Ring in the New Year, HOOVER STYLE!
BY MITZI EAKERHave a neighborhood party! Invite your neighbors over to celebrate the new year. Plan activities like a neighborhood scavenger hunt or cornhole tournament. Hang out at Dave and Busters
and play video games. If you stay until midnight you can usher in the New Year with their Champagne Toast!
Shop until you drop! Shop the end of the year clearance sales at The Riverchase Galleria.
Hit a local bar to listen to a band. Live music is popular all around Hoover. Find a great spot at places like The Perfect Note, Greybar, Brock’s Gap Brewing Company, or Gabriel’s Cafe.
Go to church. Often churches will have New Year Eve services. This is a time to express your thanks to God for the past and prepare your heart and mind for service to God, church, and others in future.
Gather with family. (This is my favorite!) Since becoming a mom, I want to be with my kids, husband, and my parents to start the new year. It is just a way to hold on a
little bit longer to the year with those that are so dear.
Start exercising. Why wait until January 1 to get healthy? Plan to get out to take a hike or start a new exercise program.
Spend the night at Ross Bridge. Relax and let someone else take care of you and cook for you. Get a massage while you are there!
Laugh with someone you love! Check out what is happening at the Stardome and plan a night of laughter and good food with friends.
Take it easy! Enjoy a stroll at Aldridge Gardens and go to bed early on the last day of the year.
