The University of South Carolina Aiken 2 The University of South Carolina Aiken was chartered in 1961 after entering into an agreement with the University of South Carolina to establish a two-year center in Aiken. The Aiken Center opened its doors in September 1961 to 139 students. Temporarily housed in Banksia, a renovated mansion in Aiken, the Center consisted of three full-time faculty members (one of whom served as Director of the Center). In 1968, the Center underwent an institutional self-study and was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as a branch of the University of South Carolina and as a junior college. The first associate degrees were awarded in June 1968. The campus of USC Aiken moved from Banksia to its present site in 1972 and physical changes began to occur rapidly. At first, the permanent campus consisted of 100 acres and one multipurpose building which housed all university operations. A library was completed in 1975, and additional land was donated that increased the campus to 144 acres. In October 1977, the Student Activities Center was opened. A classroom building was occupied in 1978, and one year later, an auxiliary services building was added. An apartment complex for

students, Pacer Downs, was ready for occupancy in the fall of 1984. More construction additions to the campus included completion of the Etherredge Center, Ruth Patrick Science Education Center, the Business and Education Building and the Alan B. Miller Nursing Building. Additional land was acquired increasing the campus to 400 acres. Academic and organizational changes also occurred rapidly. The faculty formalized its organizational structure and redefined its role in the governance of the institution in 1974-75. Also, the students reorganized their governing body and more precisely defined their role on campus; the administration and staff structures were overhauled and expanded to meet the demands of the growing academic programs. When the full-time equivalent student enrollment reached 1,066 in the fall of 1975, the USC Aiken campus was permitted to plan for senior level courses and to create a number of baccalaureate degree programs. In that same year, USCA

received approval as a four-year branch campus by the Board of Trustees of the University of South Carolina, and USCA was designated a Recognized Candidate for Senior College Accreditation. In September 1976, the Board of Trustees granted academic autonomy to the Aiken Campus. The first bachelor’s degrees were granted in May 1977, and USCA became a fully accredited senior college. Presently, the college community is comprised of more than 3,200 students, over 100 full-time faculty, approximately 110 staff members, and 28 administrators. USCA awards bachelor’s degrees in more than 20 major areas of study, master’s degrees in two areas, and offers a varied program of continuing education courses for the wider community. Today USC Aiken offers students a liberal education designed to develop an understanding of human experience which will equip them for life in a free society. To accomplish this, the University provides students with an opportunity to discover learning processes which enable them to grow personally and socially. It promotes students’ interaction within a community of active scholars and artists, and it encourages students to use the knowledge which they gain to deal with the problems of a rapidly changing world.

The Peach Belt Conference 3 Vision Statement: The Peach Belt Conference is committed to providing through its dependent collegiate members, a forum for student participation in athletic, academic and co-curricular events under the auspices of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Division II. We will exemplify the characteristics of a premier intercollegiate conference that prides itself on the inclusion of students of all demographic groups who wish to participate in a well-rounded sports program. Our institutions, our academic goals, our athletic aspirations reflect a communality of purpose and a commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the playing field. History: Entering its 23rd year of existence in 2012-13, the Peach Belt Conference has cemented its status as one of the elite Division II conferences in the nation. Since its inception in 1990-91, the Peach Belt has developed a consistent history of excellence which continues to this day with 32 national championships and 28 national finalists. Starting with only two championships in 1991, men’s and women’s basketball, the conference has expanded to 15 championship sports with the addition of men’s and women’s track and field in the spring of 2013. The conference traces its roots back to November of 1988 when 11 schools first met in Greenville, S.C. to form a Division II conference. Following a second meeting on Dec. 3, 1989, five of those 11 schools, plus two others, formed the Peach Belt and began play in fall 1990. The Peach Belt was less than a year old before capturing a national championship. The Columbus State golf team took the honor by winning the 1992 national crown, the first of three golf championships the Cougars own. One year later, the Lander men’s tennis team began their record-breaking run of eight straight national titles, the first PBC dynasty. Since then, USCA men’s golf has won three straight national titles from 2004-06. The PBC is in the midst of another dynasty as the Armstrong men’s and women’s tennis teams captured the 31st and 32nd national championships for the conference last year. The Pirates have won four women’s and three men’s national championships since 2008.

Armstrong’s achievement was the highlight to one of the most successful seasons in league history. Peach Belt teams advanced to the national championship round of competition in 10 of our 13 sports. The Armstrong women’s soccer team reached the Final Four while the Flagler volleyball team went to the Elite Eight. The Montevallo men’s basketball team played in the National Championship game while the Lander women’s team reached the Elite Eight. The Flagler softball team reached the World Series while the Georgia College and USC Aiken men’s golf teams reached the final eight match play at the national championships. In all, 59 Peach Belt teams made appearances in the NCAA postseason, including seven men’s tennis teams and six each in the sports of men’s golf and women’s tennis. The seven charter members of the conference were Armstrong Atlantic State University, Columbus State University, Francis Marion University, Georgia College & State University, Lander University, USC Aiken and USC Upstate. The name Peach Belt Athletic Conference was adopted in January of 1990 and modified to Peach Belt Conference in May of 2000. Augusta State joined the conference in 1991 and UNC Pembroke became the ninth member on July 1, 1992. They were followed by Kennesaw State University on July 1, 1994, Clayton State University on July 1, 1995 and the University of North Florida on July 1, 1997. Kennesaw State and North Florida departed for the Division I ranks in 2005, USC Upstate did the same in 2007, and the conference welcomed in North Georgia College & State University in 2005 and Georgia Southwestern State University in 2006. In 2009-10, the Peach Belt added Montevallo and Flagler. For the 2012-13 season, the league is expanding once again with the addition of Young Harris College, giving the Peach Belt 14 members for the first time in its history. David Brunk was named the second PBC commissioner in May of 2007. Brunk replaced Marvin Vanover, who was the first PBC commissioner from 1991 to 2007. Brunk is charged with continuing the strong growth of the conference as its second era begins. Dr. Fred Carter, president of Francis Marion University, begins his two-year term as president of the Peach Belt this year. The conference currently holds

championships in 14 sports, six for men and eight for women. They are men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, baseball, softball and men’s and women’s golf and women’s track and field.

Dr. Sandra Jordan USC Aiken Chancellor

Sandra J. Jordan, former provost and vice president for academic affairs at Georgia College & State University, was named chancellor of the University of South Carolina Aiken in 2012. Jordan became the fourth chancellor of USC Aiken, succeeding Thomas L. Hallman who retired after 12 years in the position.

“I am tremendously honored and humbled by this opportunity to serve the campus, community and the University of South Carolina system,” Jordan said. “USC Aiken’s mission, unwavering dedication to student success and vibrant partnerships with the community, make this an exceptional and exciting position. I am thrilled to accept this invitation to join the Pacers during this pivotal time in the history of the institution and I look forward to working closely with President Pastides, the USC Aiken faculty, staff and students as well as our alumni and friends to build upon the successes that defined this university’s first 50 years.” Jordan’s appointment marks a return to the state where her higher education career began. From 19861989, she was an assistant professor of art history at Lander University

and director of the Monsanto Gallery of Art. Jordan earned her bachelor’s degree in art from the University of Alabama, and her doctorate in art history from the University of Georgia. She has also attended the Management Development Program at Harvard University’s Institute for Higher Education, the 21st Century Leadership Institute and was a summer fellow at Vanderbilt University’s Institute for Higher Education Management. A student of leadership, she is often asked to mentor new leaders at the state and national level. Jordan has been married for 30 years to Michael Jordan, an architect and graduate of Clemson University. They have a son, Matthew, who is a graduate student at the University of Alabama.

Randy Warrick Director of Athletics

Randy Warrick is in his 26th year as Director of Athletics at the University of South Carolina Aiken. He was hired at USCA in 1978 as head baseball coach and intramural director and has served many different duties during his tenure. While coaching baseball for 11 years, Warrick also served as an assistant basketball coach during the 1978-79 season and acting golf coach

in 1989-90. As baseball coach, Warrick compiled a 392-146 record, while earning various coaching awards. In 1986 his team advanced to the College World Series, the highlight of his coaching career. Warrick was born in Rocky Mount, N.C. and attended Rocky Mount High School. He was an All-Conference player in football, basketball and baseball. Upon graduation from high school, Warrick went to Louisburg Junior College where he played baseball for two years. In 1975, Warrick earned his Associate of Arts degree from Louisburg and was drafted by the Kansas City Royals, but decided to stay in school. Warrick then moved on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received a two-year baseball scholarship. While at North Carolina he earned Atlantic Coast Conference All-

Academic honors two straight years. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1977 and then his Master of Arts in Teaching in 1978. While earning his master’s degree, he served as a graduate assistant baseball coach. In the same season, the team advanced to the College World Series. Warrick is a member of the College Athletic Management’s Editorial Board, PBC Awards Committee, NCAA Division II AD’s Association Board of Directors, Greater Augusta Sports Council Board, and is the most recent past chairman of the NCAA Division II National Golf Committee. Warrick is married to Martha Blankenship Warrick of Augusta, Ga. They have one son, Tripp, who is a senior at USC Aiken. The Warrick family resides in North Augusta, S.C.

Tim Hall is in his 22nd year as a member of the USC Aiken athletic department. Hall first joined the program in 1990 as a graduate assistant. In 1993 he was hired on as the university’s full-time NCAA Compliance Coordinator. In August 1997, the Batesburg-Leesville native was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director. In September 2003, Hall was promoted again, this time to the position of Associate Athletic Director for Administration and External Services. In this role, Hall oversees NCAA compliance and academic support. In addition, he assists with home game administration and fundraising. A 1990 graduate of the University of South Carolina, Hall received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Administration. In 1992, he earned a Master’s in Student Personnel Services from USC as well. In his time at USC Aiken, Hall has been on a number of campus committees including the first year academic advisor program and the enrollment management action team in the strategic planning process. Hall is married to the former Jenny Fulmer and they have three sons, Jordan, Ethan and Wyatt.

Angie Osbon is in her 13th year as a member of the USC Aiken athletic department. Osbon became the department’s business manager in 1999. Through the years she has earned a number of other titles, including Senior Woman Administrator, Student Athlete Advisory Committee Advisor and Cheerleading, Mascot and Dance Team Director. In 2007, Osbon received the Outstanding Committment to Student Development Award from the Office of Student Life. In September 2003, the Aiken, S.C., native was promoted to the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Business and Student Services. Osbon earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from USC Aiken in 1992. In 1996, Osbon received her Master’s in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. In 2002, Osbon was named student organization advisor of the year and was selected to the Who’s Who Among Cheerleading Coaches. In addition, she has been a member of the first year academic advisor program and a staff facilitator for orientation. The former Angie Mathis is married to Rick Osbon and they have three children, Reagan, Gemma and Sterling.

Assistant Athletic Director/ Communications and Promotions Brian Hand is in his fifth year as the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications and Promotions/Sports Information Director at USC Aiken. Hand came to USC Aiken from Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C. Hand left PC after serving for almost three years as the Director of Sports Information and Game Operations for the Blue Hose athletic department. Prior to accepting his position with PC, Hand worked as a public affairs assistant with the Southern Conference. Hand also worked as an intern with the Greenville Lions professional soccer team and as a sports clerk with The Greenville News before moving to Nashville, Tenn., in 2004 to serve as a media relations assistant with the Pacific Coast League’s Nashville Sounds, then the Class AAA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. A native of Greer, S.C., Hand completed his undergraduate studies at North Greenville University in Tigerville, S.C. in 2003. He holds a Master’s Degree in Sport Management from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Hand is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He is married to the former Amy Prater of Pelzer, S.C. They are the proud parents of Alexander (four).

Brandon Aiken is in his 13th year as head athletic trainer and 15th overall at USC Aiken. Aiken, a native of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., joined the USC Aiken training staff in 1997 as a graduate assistant. He served in that capacity for three years until stepping into the head position in 2000. He was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine prior to the 2009-10 athletic year. A 1997 graduate of Saint Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C., Aiken received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine. Aiken is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Aiken also served as assistant and head athletic trainer at Hitchcock Rehabilitation Center in Aiken, S.C., for more than three years. At Hitchcock, he worked with high school, college, and professional athletes as well as general outpatient rehabilitation. Aiken guided the USC Aiken athletic training staff to backto-back (2007-08 and 2008-09) Peach Belt Conference Athletic Training Staff of the Year awards.

Joe Kucharski

Mike Kucharski Assistant SID First Year

Joe Kucharski is in his 11th year as the “Voice of the Pacers.” A native of St. Louis, Mo., Kucharski graduated from St. Louis University in 1977. While at SLU, he provided statistics and analysis for the Billiken hockey and softball teams. Kucharski completed his graduate studies at the University of Utah, where he bowled for the Utes in the Inter-Mountain Collegiate Conference. He briefly held the record for the highest three-game series ever bowled in Salt Lake City. He has bowled a 300 game and is a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame. Kucharski and his family moved from New Jersey to Aiken in 1994. He works in operations for GlaxoSmithKline in Aiken. When not at USC Aiken sporting events, Kucharski enjoys playing golf and heads the chain gang for Schofield football.

Michael Kucharski is in his first year as Assistant Sports Information Director at USC Aiken. Kucharski has volunteered for the athletic department since enrolling in USC Aiken in the spring of 2011. He has helped with the live webcasts of basketball, softball and baseball games and even served as commentator for baseball on the USC Aiken’s official athletic ustream channel. Kucharski has worked with the student newspaper, The Pacer Times, serving as both staff writer and Special Editor for the Hallman Retirement Edition, which was released on April 18, 2012. Kucharski received an Associates Degree from Aiken Technical College in 2008 as a paralegal. He is now a senior at USC Aiken studying Communications. He has received the Scott B. Hunter Scholarship for journalism students for the current academic year.

USC Aiken Soccer Complex - “Pacer Pit” The Home of Pacer Soccer

Known to fans as “Pacer Pit,” the USC Aiken soccer complex has been the home of the men’s and women’s soccer programs since their inception. The men began NCAA play in 1990-91 while the women’s program began in 1997. In 2001, a building was constructed at the field in which the men’s and women’s locker rooms and coaches’ offices are located. The building also provides facilities for visitors and game officials. The 700-seat complex has been the backdrop for numerous

Pacer victories. Since 2001, 29 of the 47 victories for the men have come at “Pacer Pit.” In the same period of time, 27 of the women’s 42 wins have occurred in the friendly confines. The Pacer men and women achieved an unprecedented amount of success in 2006, with the majority of their highlights occurring at “Pacer Pit.” For the men, a remarkable 10-win turnaround gave the Pacers a 12-6-2 record. Seven of the team’s school-record win total took place at home, including a 2-1 double-overtime victory over

North Georgia on Oct. 24, in the First Round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The contest marked the first postseason game held at the field since 2001. In front of a raucous crowd of 245, the Pacers also earned one of the most impressive upset wins in the program’s history when they defeated No. 20 Lander 2-1 on Oct. 4. For the Pacer Women, their home field was the venue for five of their seven victories in 2006, including three of the squad’s four conference wins. USC Aiken provided some excitement for the home fans when they rattled off four straight home wins, including back-to-back overtime wins over Presbyterian and USC Upstate. As the PBC’s fourth-seed, the Pacer Women also earned the right to host a postseason game at “Pacer Pit,” but fell to USC Upstate 1-0 on October 25. USC Aiken Convocation Center The Convocation Center gives the men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball programs a state-ofthe-art facility in which to practice and play and gives the athletic department as a whole expanded space and modern offices in which to operate. The main arena seats 3,600 for athletic events.

J.H. Satcher Field is conveniently located near the heart of the USC Aiken campus. J.H. Satcher Field includes a climate-controlled press box, a conession stand, coaches’ offices and a locker room at the field. Included among the 1,000 seats are 500 seats with backs. The playing surface is composed of clay and sod.

Pacer Path Cross Country Course

Pacer Path is a four-mile-long, 15-foot-wide grass and earth multipurpose fitness trail, which has been built on property adjacent to the Convocation Center. Pacer Path has been built to NCAA standards and it is the only cross country course at a Peach Belt Conference School.

Palmetto Golf Club was founded in 1892 and is recognized as the fourth oldest golf course in the United States. In 1934, Alister McKenzie, the Scottish golf architect who built Augusta National, redesigned the greens. The clubhouse was built in 1902 by the same man who built the Boston Gardens, Stanford White. White constructed an exact scale model of the clubhouse at Shinnecock Hills on Long Island, N.Y.

Roberto Hernandez Stadium

The 1,000-seat, state-of-the-art stadium features a beautiful grass and clay surface with all the amenities of a top-notch Division I ballpark. A clubhouse, players’ lounge, coaches’ offices, modern press box with separate radio broadcast booth, training facilities, top-of-the-line scoreboard with message center and 850 covered seats are among the highlights. The crown jewel of the facility is the Roberto Hernandez Hall of Fame Room.

Tennis Complex

The complex, which is adjacent to J.H. Satcher Field, includes seven lighted courts, a coach’s office and a clubhouse. Spectators can choose whether to sit next to the court of their choice, or in the bleachers located next to the number one singles court.

2011 Women’s Soccer Season in Review The University of South Carolina Aiken women’s soccer team ended its 2011 campaign with a record of 4-12 under seventh-year head coach Sue Vodicka. USC Aiken was 1-9 in Peach Belt Conference play. USC Aiken started the year off to its best start since the 2005 season with a perfect 3-0 record. The Pacers opened the year with a thrilling 1-0 overtime win over Coker in Hartsville, S.C. on Sept. 1. USC Aiken then proceeded to best Newberry and Brevard in consecutive games. Pacer goalkeeper Alli Edens was named the Peach Belt Conference Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 7. The honor marked the first time that a Pacer women’s soccer goalkeeper had acquired the prestigious honor. The win over Brevard on Sept. 7 gave way to a stretch that would see USC Aiken lose its next six games. The Pacers snapped their six-game slide by beating Georgia Southwestern, 1-0, at the “Pacer Pit” on Oct. 8. The victory over Georgia Southwestern would prove to be the final one of the year for USC Aiken as they finished the 2011 season with six straight defeats. USC Aiken junior defender Emily Dodd was tabbed to the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Women’s Soccer AllAcademic Team at the conclusion of the year. Dodd was one of five Pacers noted as Paige Busby, Edens, Kyle Maguire and Jordan Ziegler were Honorable Mention selections.

2011 Men’s Soccer Season in Review The University of South Carolina Aiken men’s soccer team concluded its 2011 season with a record of 3-10-4 under 16th-year head mentor Ike Ofoje. The Pacers owned a record of 1-5-2 in Peach Belt Conference action. The Pacers began the 2011 year by winning two of their first four games, besting Pfeiffer and Brevard in the process. The strong start would then lead to three straight losses, but the Pacers began their best stretch of the 2011 season on Sept. 24 with a 1-1 double overtime tie with Lenoir-Rhyne. The tie with Lenoir-Rhyne was part of a stretch that saw USC Aiken acquire a positive result in four of its next five games. The impressive stretch included a 1-0 home Peach Belt Conference win over Georgia Southwestern at the “Pacer Pit” on Oct. 8. USC Aiken would then close out the year with one positive result in its last five outings. The Pacers finished the regular season eighth in the Peach Belt Conference. USC Aiken lost to eventual Peach Belt Conference Tournament champion and NCAA Elite Eight participant Flagler in the first round of the conference championship. USC Aiken’s Troy Watson was named to the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Men’s Soccer All-Tournament Team. Numerous Pacers received acclaim for their efforts on the pitch in the 2011 season with Chinedu Arinze claiming the majority of the accolades. Arinze was chosen to the Peach Belt Conference All-Conference First-Team, the Peach Belt Conference Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team and the Daktronics NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer All-Southeast Region Team. Arinze was one of five Pacers named to the Peach Belt Conference Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team, joining Scott Berry, Michael Poole, Jack Reynolds and Kofi Trim. Schevon Joseph was named Honorable Mention. Berry was also selected to the Capital One Academic NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer District Three First-Team for his efforts in the classroom and on the playing field.

2012 Women’s Soccer: Season Outlook The University of South Carolina Aiken women’s soccer team begins the 2012 season feeling as if it has a strong squad that can compete in the extremely tough Peach Belt Conference. In 2010 the Pacers were extremely young with 17 underclassmen. Most of those are now either upperclassmen or one year into the program so seventh-year head coach Sue Vodicka believes the Pacers’ youth movement is going in the right direction. Vodicka welcomes back eight letterwinners in total this season, including seven returning starters. The Pacers also have 11 exciting newcomers joining the squad in the upcoming year. The 2012 Pacer women’s soccer schedule features a strong non-conference and Peach Belt Conference schedule to go along with two games against NCAA Division I foes. USC Aiken will have seven regular season contests inside the friendly confines of the “Pacer Pit.” “I am really excited about the challenge of playing two Division I teams this year,” noted Vodicka. “As always we play in an extremely tough league, but I feel that our really tough nonconference schedule will prepare us for the rigors of conference play.”

2012 Men’s Soccer: Season Outlook

University of South Carolina Aiken head men’s soccer coach Ike Ofoje feels as if his 2012 team is one that can compete at the highest level. Ofoje has reason for his optimism as he welcomes back seven starters and 20 letterwinners in total from a 2011 team that advanced to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Pacers also welcome 15 strong newcomers to a Pacer team that if able to navigate an always tough schedule should compete for a high Peach Belt Conference Tournament seed, or even a championship in the PBC. The 2012 USC Aiken men’s soccer schedule features seven home games at the “Pacer Pit” to go along with a tough non-conference and Peach Belt Conference schedule. “It has been six years since I have felt this excited about a recruiting class,” remarked Ofoje. “This makes the prospects of a tough schedule even more thrilling. I am looking forward to a great season!”

USC Aiken women’s soccer coach Sue Vodicka enters her eighth season heading the Pacers, and during her first seven seasons the Pacers have compiled a 33-87-7 record. The 2011 edition of the Pacers went 4-12, while going 2-4 at the Pacer Pit. The Pacers also earned a Peach Belt Conference victory by defeating Georgia Southwestern 1-0 at home Oct. 8, 2011. The 2010 USC Aiken women’s soccer team concluded its year by producing a positive result in four of its final five games. The Pacers earned three wins in the final five games to end the year with a 5-11-2 (0-8-2 PBC) record overall. The 2009 USC Aiken women’s soccer team was honored as one of the top 20 most improved NCAA Division II women’s soccer team. The rankings are done by calculating a team’s improvement by comparing its final 2009 rating to an adjusted 2008 rating. A team’s rating roughly equates to net goals (goals scored minus goals against). The criteria allowed the Pacers to obtain a 1.34 rating to leave them with the 15th-best improvement in all of Division II women’s soccer. USC Aiken improved its win total by three games in 2009. The 2009 USC Aiken women’s soccer campaign ended with the Pacers owning a 6-11 record overall. USC Aiken finished the season winning four of its final five games. The Pacers concluded the 2009 Peach Belt Conference season with a 2-8 record. In a season full of close contests for the Pacer women, USC Aiken ended its 2009 Peach Belt Conference slate having been on the losing side of three overtime games in PBC action. In total, USC Aiken finished its 2009 season with nine one-goal losses. The Pacers lost six of their eight games in PBC play by just one goal. USC Aiken’s defensive unit had a tremendous season-ending stretch of not allowing a goal. The Pacer defense had not given up a goal in just over 501 minutes before surrendering the first goal of the match to GCSU in their season finale. The Pacers had played the entire 90 minutes of the previous four matches without surrendering a goal. In 2008, Vodicka guided the Pacers to a 3-15-2 record, which included a 1-7-1 record in Peach Belt Conference games. Vodicka engineered a remarkable turnaround in 2006, guiding her squad to a fourth place finish in the Peach Belt Conference after being predicted to place ninth. USC Aiken finished the season 7-11-2, including a 4-4-1 mark in PBC play. The four conference wins marked the combined total for the program’s previous six seasons of league play. The conference coaches took notice of the work Vodicka had done and voted her the 2006 PBC Coach of the Year, the first USC Aiken women’s soccer coach to earn that award. Vodicka was named the second head women’s soccer coach at USC Aiken in the program’s history on July 20, 2005. In her first season with the Pacers, Vodicka

began laying the building blocks for a successful program moving forward. Hired late in the summer, Vodicka fielded a team that was short on numbers, but not on excitement and hard work. Vodicka came to USCA with 11 years of NCAA Division I coaching experience, including one season as the head coach at Virginia Commonwealth University. She served as an assistant at the College of William & Mary, Washington State and George Mason University. As a student-athlete at George Mason, Vodicka was a member of three NCAA Tournament teams. The 1983 squad made it to the national championship game and her 1985 team claimed the NCAA National Championship by beating North Carolina in the title match. She earned a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in English from GMU in 1986 and a Virginia Secondary Teaching Certificate in 1992. The George Mason graduate served as assistant coach at her alma mater from 1999 to 2003. During her five seasons, the Patriots were 49-48-7 overall but went 25-11-3 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. GMU tied for first place in the CAA in 2000 and 2001, and finished second in 2002. The team was the CAA Tournament runner-up in 2000 and 2002. At GMU, Vodicka coached six NSCAA All-Region selections, 13 All-CAA selections and 10 All-CAA Tournament selections. More impressively, while overseeing the team’s academics for all five seasons, 41 Patriot women’s soccer players received the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award and the squad posted George Mason’s highest team GPA in six of nine semesters. Before accepting the position at her alma mater, Vodicka served as head coach for one season at Virginia Commonwealth. The Rams posted a 7-9-2 overall record and a 2-5-1 mark in the CAA. While she spent just one season at the helm of the program, her impact was strong. VCU earned the program’s first ever conference wins over James Madison and American University, and they tied 10th-ranked Virginia. In addition, her squad produced two AllCAA selections. Vodicka made her collegiate head coaching debut after serving two seasons as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Washington State. In her first season in Pullman, Wash., the Cougars doubled their win total from the previous season. In two seasons combined, Vodicka coached four All-PAC-10 selections while nine Cougars earned PAC-10 AllAcademic honors. Vodicka began her collegiate coaching career at the College of William & Mary where she served as assistant coach from 1993 to 1995. During Vodicka’s three seasons at William & Mary, the Tribe made three NCAA Tournament appearances, posted a 43-16-2 record and went unbeaten in the CAA at 15-0-1. The team captured two CAA Championships and finished as the runner-up once. The 1994 squad went 17-4-0 (6-0-0 CAA) on its way to winning the CAA Championship and making the NCAA’s Sweet 16.

Ike Ofoje is set for his 17th season at the helm of the USC Aiken men’s soccer program. The season will mark the ninth season that Ofoje will focus all of his attention to just one team. Ofoje started the women’s program at USC Aiken in 1997 and served as its head coach for eight seasons, compiling a record of 51-77-10. In 2005, however, Sue Vodicka was hired as the program’s first full-time women’s soccer coach. With the addition of Vodicka, Ofoje took on the role of Director of Soccer Operations. In his 15 seasons at the helm of the Pacers, he has an 85-179-23 overall record. In 2011, the USC Aiken men’s soccer team went 3-10-4 during the year and lost a tough draw in the first round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament to the eventual Tournament Champions and National Elite Eight participant Flagler. Chinedu Arinze was selected to the Peach Belt Conference All-Conference First Team and the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team. The 2010 USC Aiken men’s soccer team advanced to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament before losing to Clayton State in the first round of the championship. USC Aiken concluded the year overall with a 2-112 record. Brett Van Pelt was chosen to the league’s All-Conference First-Team. The 2009 USC Aiken men’s soccer team closed out their regular season with three consecutive victories, capped off by a 3-2 upset win over 13th-ranked Anderson at the Pacer Pit. USC Aiken outscored their opponents 11-3 during the three-game winning streak. Overall, the Pacers finished the 2009 campaign 7-11-1 (2-6 PBC), earning a trip to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Pacers concluded their season with a 2-0 loss to league rival Lander in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Peach Belt Conference Men’s Soccer Championships. Alex Lewis was named to the PBC All-Tournament Team for his efforts during the tournament. In 2009, John Lesko and Troy Watson were named to the Peach Belt Conference Men’s Soccer All-Conference Team for the second year in a row. A four year starter for the Pacers, Lesko was named to the Second-Team as a defender, while Watson was named to the Second-Team as a midfielder. Lesko was the only Pacer named to the 2009 Daktronics All-Region Team. He was a Second-Team selection. Watson led the Pacers in 2009 with a team-high seven goals and seven assists for a team-high 21 total points, finishing the regular season in the top 10 in the PBC in seven different categories. Watson netted three match-winning goals in 2009 for the Pacers. Ofoje guided the Pacers to a 5-11-1 record in the 2008 campaign. One season earlier, he led the Pacers to a 7-9-2 record in 2007, including a 4-2 mark in Peach Belt play which left them in a three-way tie for second place. The squad was led by junior Kofi Akyere, who was the first player under Ofoje to win PBC Co-Player of the Year honors and be

named an Honorable Mention All-American. Playing at “Pacer Pit” has become a specialty of Ofoje’s teams. In 2007, USC Aiken went 6-2 on their home field with the Pacers at one point running their home unbeaten streak to 14. In 2006, Ofoje guided the Pacers to their most successful season in the program’s history. After being picked to finish seventh in the Peach Belt Conference, USC Aiken had fewer losses than any other PBC team and fell just one point short of the league title. The Pacers set school records in both overall and conference wins, finishing the season with a 126-2 record (4-1-2 in the PBC), including a 2-1 win over Lander on October 4. The Pacers also achieved their first-ever national ranking and appeared in the PBC Championship game. The rest of the league’s coaches took notice, naming Ofoje the 2006 PBC Coach of the Year. The 2001 campaign, in which the Pacers finished 10-9-0 in Ofoje’s sixth season on the USC Aiken sideline, marked the program’s first winning season since 1994 and only its second winning record since joining the NCAA Division II ranks in 1990. Ofoje’s 2002 team reached another milestone. The Pacers entered that year’s Peach Belt Conference Tournament as the seventh seed, but Andre Joseph’s game winner with four minutes to play lifted USC Aiken to a stunning 2-1 upset over eighth-ranked and second seeded North Florida and gave the program its first-ever PBC Tournament victory. On the women’s side, after struggling through a 1-14-1 inaugural season in 1997, Ofoje led the Pacers to a 45-39-7 record over the next five seasons. In 2002, the Pacers scored the program’s first-ever win over a top 10 team, a 2-1 overtime victory over ninth-ranked Francis Marion University. Ofoje, a 1991 graduate of New Hampshire College, was a two-time NCAA Division II AllAmerican and was named Most Valuable Player for his 1989 NCAA National Championship team. As a player at New Hampshire College, Ofoje led his teams to a 72-15-4 record and four NCAA Tournament appearances. He totaled 58 goals, 36 assists and 152 points in 75 career matches. He owns the school record for most career points, is tied for most career assists and is a member of the New Hampshire College Hall of Fame. After graduation, Ofoje played professionally in the United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues for the Boston Storm for two seasons. Ofoje also played on his native country of Nigeria’s junior and senior national teams. While coaching at St. Joseph’s High School in Huntington, W.Va., Ofoje earned his Master’s degree in Sports Management at Marshall University. Ofoje, who holds a USSF “A” coaching license, served as assistant women’s soccer coach at Illinois State University before arriving at USC Aiken.
