Infosys Foundation Anupu Festival - 2016
L
ocated to the South of Nagarjuna Sagar town, Anupu is a site of Buddhist excavations reconstructed to perfection with extreme care and effort. During the construction of the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, the ruins of an ancient Buddhist university were excavated along with several monasteries. These ruins were subsequently reconstructed on 80 hectares at Anupu by the Archaeological Survey of India. Today, Anupu is a place of great historical significance with three main structures – an ancient Buddhist university, a Hariti temple and an amphi theatre magnificent enough to transport you to a bygone era. Anupu is a fine specimen of Buddhist architecture and a wonderful place to experience the ancient Buddhist culture. To celebrate the spirit of Anupu, Infosys Foundation is organizing a three-day cultural festival in front of the Anupu amphi theatre after approximately 1,600 years. In this unique festival there will be fifteen events featuring more than 350 distinguished artistes who will present different art forms including music, dance, folk art and theatre. Over 15 art professionals will take part in the festival in creating a landscape of Anupu, which is an added attraction to the main event. Join us with family and friends to celebrate the heritage and culture of Anupu. Anupu can be reached by crossing the police check-post after the newly constructed bridge via the Boat Launch Station. Boating facility is also available at Anupu on small fishing boats. Cover page back drop: Limestone - Ayakpata showing the transportation of Siddhartha’s head gear (crown) to heaven by the Gods accompanied by musicians.
