As a third-year architecture student, I consistently seek to delve into architectural realms beyond the confines of my academic institution. My fascination lies in the intricate interplay between spaces and individuals, prompting me to explore how people engage with their surroundings and the encompassing natural environment. Engaging in this pursuit not only broadens my understanding of architecture as physical spaces but also as an emotive force that establishes connections with individuals throughout their lifespans. This exploration has not only inspired me to view architecture as a tangible construct but also as a poignant and enduring presence that resonates with people on an emotional level.

THE MARITIME PAVILION

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

"The Maritime Pavilion stands as an emblem, symbolizing the strength, courage, confidence, and pride of the Indian Navy. Inspired by its location at the heart of the Eastern Naval Command in Vishakapatnam, the pavilion is a testament to the sacrifice and hard work of the jawans. Its commanding presence at the intersection of land and sea is embodied in a pure-white pre-cast concrete structure adorned with an anchor.

The design creates a space for visitors to connect with the greatness of the Indian Navy through carefully curated inscriptions, fostering a sense of purity as they walk amidst the water bodies within the structure. The design ensures a contemplative experience, with the view of the gracefully dancing water complementing the carefully designed seating spaces and the surrounding area, enhancing the overall ambiance of the pavilion.

THE VERDANT HOUSE

"Architecture that ages over time alongside its inhabitants, providing a sensory journey."

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project was to design a residence for a retired businness man and his family that serves as a weekend getaway home for the entire family to re-connect. The location serves to the brief which is located in a colony of residences with families.

The design revolves around creating a house that disconnects the residents from the hustle and bustle of the city and reoncile them back with nature. The residents are welcomed into the house through a dense and nicely designed landscaped garden that opens up into a courtyard which acts as the central space of the entire residence, connecting all the rooms and different activities. Enveloped by lush foliage and a design that endeavors to engage the senses, offering a sensory journey that transcends the ordinary and surrounded with instances that age with the residents living in them.

COMPETITIONS3

Architecture, in my opinion, deals with spatial relationships and how the space influences the people within it by connecting them to the built and the unbuilt forms. The challenge it faces lies in designing spaces that cater to all, irrespective of their abilities or disabilities.

The objective of architecture should be to design spaces that are equitable rather than equal, whether it may be on a small scale such as toilets, or a large scale such as urban planning, whether it be to provide facilities for differently abled people or for people to walk who can't afford personal transportation, the need for inclusive design is significant.

Architecture is a universal language and the architect is its speaker, communicating with a range of audiences and this calls for universal design (Ronald Mace, 1985). The essence of inclusivity in design will stand as a symbol that could be carried forward and inculcated into our lives.

We are products of our surroundings and anything could act as an influence. Architecture being an integral part of our daily lives would consequently bring about a change in how we, literally speaking, view the world. It goes beyond its grandeur and tangibility, reflecting our own values and beliefs, inherently becoming one with everyone and bringing everyone together.
