The future of the Hannah Carter Japanese Garden in BelAir is in jeopardy. The garden, owned by UCLA, and a community resource for 50 years, has long been open to the public and serves as a teaching resource for the local community and students of garden history, land-

To celebrate the “Year of the Dragon,” 45 participating restaurants and retailers, traditional Chinese performances, and Good Fortune giveaways will highlight tonight’s Beverly Hills Chinese New Year from 6-9 p.m. in the 400 block of Rodeo Drive, between Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards. Organized by the Beverly Hills Conference and Visitors Bureau and the Rodeo Drive Committee, the event will feature a
lion dance and drum corps by the award-winning East Wind Dance Troupe from L.A.’s Chinatown and street performers walking up and down the closed street. In the spirit of the holiday, the first 1,000 attendees will receive a red Good Fortune envelope each filled with special offers from participating retailers and restaurants.
