By Laura Coleman On Tuesday, the Beverly Hills Board of Education was unequivocally informed that 14 buildings at Hawthorne are subject to potential collapse in the event of high seismic activity. Just how unsafe the buildings are, however, and what precisely needs to be done to ensure students remain safe is a decision that rests with the Board. (see ‘BHUSD SAFETY’ page 20)

Bel-Air Homeowners Battle Over Construction By Victoria Talbot Finally, after a spate of oversized, over-publicized and over-mansionized projects have focused attention on the portentous residential development in Los Angeles, the L.A. City Council has found a voice that resonates with residents and voters to stop overbuilding the City. Tuesday was showdown time, setting the old guard prodevelopment Bel-Air Association against the newly activated residents of the Bel-Air Homeowners Alliance in a battle for their Bel-Air neighborhood.
