BEVERLY GARDENS PARK – Beverly Hills celebrated the completion of the renovation of the iconic 1.9-mile Beverly Gardens Park with a rededication ceremony last Thursday, and the unveiling of a plaque to honor the many people who contributed time and money to the project. The renovation was the brainchild of resident philanthropist Steve Gordon, founder of the Friends of Beverly Gardens Park, who raised over $4 million toward the restoration. The results include a fully-functional and renovated Electric Fountain and Doheny Fountain at both the east and west entrances to the City; the restored Cactus Garden; and the famous Lily Pond and Beverly Hills sign. The City of Beverly Hills contributed $7.9 million. The total cost of restoration was $12,021,783. By Victoria Talbot The City of Beverly Hills, in a unanimous vote on Tuesday, approved an ordinance to prohibit the sale of tobacco products in the City beginning in January 2021. Under the ordinance, the City’s three existing cigar lounges, including the Buena Vista Cigar Club, the Grand Havana Room and Nazareth’s, would be exempted, and no new cigar clubs would be granted permits. Hotels will be able to provide cigarettes only for their guests, and only through concierge services, absent any retail product displays, and they are prohibited from selling to non-guests. All other retailers, including two grocery stores, six gas stations, and nine convenience stores or pharmacies, will be prohibited from selling tobacco products Jan. 1, 2021. The City Council will review the ordinance for its effectiveness in three years. “Courts have not yet reviewed citywide bans on tobacco sales, however, so there is still uncertainty as to whether a court would uphold this type of ban if challenged,” said a staff report. “Given that no other city in the United States has adopted a comprehensive ban on all tobacco products, the City is likely to face legal challenges. The City should be willing to appropriately address these challenges, which could include substantial litigation expenses.” The ordinance will contain

Beverly Hills was the first city to ban smoking in restaurants, retail stores and all public meetings in 1987. Then, as now, opposition from the business community dominated the discussion. When the ordinance first came to the City Council, Bosse stated, “Our goal is to be the healthiest City! We are not telling people that they can’t smoke; we are showing that we value the quality of life.” In 2017, the City prohibited smoking traditional tobacco products, vape products and marijuana in the public rightof-way, increased the open-air dining no-smoking buffer zone from five feet to 20 feet, and adopted a new ordinance to (see ‘SMOKING BAN’ page 19)

Producer Mike Flint Sees Angels In The Sky Project Talking Flight After 10 years of pitches, and even creating a moving action-packed script by wellknown Hollywood writers, resident and producer Mike Flint is seeing his “passion project“ Angels In The Sky, moving closer to being developed as a feature film and even a TV series. Producer Mark Damon (2 Guns, Lone Survivor) has bought the film and TV rights to the story, described by Flint as “a combination of Top Gun and The Magnificent Seven, that tells how an all-volunteer Air Force helped defeat five Arab nations and protect the fledgling Jewish state. Most of the pilots were WW II veterans, including Flint’s father Mitchell Flint, who figures prominently in the book, Angels In The Sky, the basis of the screen projects. “He was part of the history of aviation, flying four great planes in combat— the Spitfire, Corsair, P-51 Mustang and old Nazi Czechmade Messerschmidts,” says Flint. Mike Flint has long believed in the story, and not just because of his heroic father, who died in 2017. Sophistication To The Wallis’ Lovelace Theater By Steve Simmons Cabaret luminary Steve Ross will bring his celebration of the Great American Songbook, Cole Porter and Beyond, to the Wallis Annenberg’s Lovelace Theater as part of the performing arts center’s intimate Sorting Room programming at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15. It’s a much anticipated return for Ross—he’s played the Cinegrill, Upright Cabaret and Vitello’s — whose duty, he says, is “to represent the classics, the best America has to offer. “The title means I can do anything,” says Ross, so while celebrating Porter, he can throw in his contemporaries like Irving Berlin. “They were unlikely friends and mutually helpful to each other’s careers.” Ross developed his affinity for Porter (1891-1964) at an early age. The first song he remembers hearing is his pianist mother playing Night And Day. “She was courting my dad and Gay Divorcee (1934) had just come out. “I was always drawn to him for the sheen, sophistication and glamour of his life,” said Ross of Porter who lived in New York’s

Waldorf Astoria and part-time in Venice. “Then there was his wit and humor and the fact that he got away with murder,” adds Ross. Songs like Let’s Do It were considered shocking and “too risqué for radio,” Ross says. “’He implied sex—’the habits of rabbits’—and made it chic.” Ross will present a musical and anecdotal timeline of Porter’s storied career from his early successes in the ‘20s (I’m In Love Again, You Do Something To Me, Let’s Do It) through the ‘30s (It’s D’Lovely, In the Still of the Night, Ross’ personal favorite), the ‘40s (noted for his masterpiece Kiss Me Kate), and his later songs

from the ‘50s (I Love Paris, C’est Magnifique and It’s Alright With Me). Ross will also pack his one hour, 15-minute show with standards by the Gershwins, Jerome Kern and Rodgers & Hart, Dietz & Schwartz, and end with a tribute to longtime Beverly Hills resident Fred Astaire, for whom he wrote Night and Day. Terming himself a custodian and ambassador of his style of music — ”you won’t hear me doing Woody Guthrie protest songs”— Ross will also interpret songs by Friedrich Hollaender (Falling In Love Again), who had to flee Nazi Germany and became a successful film composer, a medley of songs about marriage and relationships and a Kurt Weill tribute. “I’m actually bringing some things I haven’t done for a while,” Ross reveals. To help keep the art form alive, Ross will lead a master class, “The Song In You And You In The Song,” from 7-10 p.m., Wednesday, June 19 at the Gardenia Lounge, 7066 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood. “It’s for people who want to sing,” says Ross. “They don’t (see ‘ROSS’ page 16)

JBBBSLA Golf Tournament Raises Record $357,000 For Camp Bob Waldorf By Matt Lopez Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles (JBBBSLA) raised a record $375,000 this week at its 24th Annual Golf Classic on Monday. The event honored longtime JBBBSLA supporter Karl Sussman, bringing together more than 140 golfers and supporters at the Valencia Country Club. Sussman has been involved with the JBBBSLA and Camp Bob Waldorf for over 55

years, mentoring six Little Brothers and serving on the Board of Directors since 1973. The $375,000, which is an agency record, goes toward Camp Bob Waldorf, JBBBSLA’s non-denominational residential camp located on 112 acres in the Verdugo Mountains of Glendale. The funds will give more than 1,200 youth a dynamic camp experience. Many of the youth campers come to Camp Bob Waldorf from impoverished sit-

uations at home, facing food insecurity, poverty and growing up in crime-ridden neighborhoods. The week at camp would otherwise be out of reach for these kids if not for the funds raised at events like the Annual Golf Tournament. “Camp is a safe space where kids discover their unique abilities, form life lasting friendships, build self-confidence, and unplug in the outdoors,” said Camp Bob Waldorf director Zach Lasker.

Benedict Canyon Hotel Developer ‘Misleading’ Residents With New Brochures By Victoria Talbot A controversial developer with a proposal for a hotel in the middle of the low-density Benedict Canyon residential area has enlisted a door-to-door service and USPS to deliver information to area residents that the Benedict Canyon Association and Save Our Canyon say is “misleading.” “You asked. We listened,” it claims on the cover of each of two versions that have gone out to an unknown number of residents. The developer is proposing a 99room hotel, parking for 708 cars, 80foot maximum building heights, multiple subterranean parking structures, and over a mile of cement retaining walls right in the middle of the residential neighborhood. The proposal includes at least 26 additional detached structures to house 438 guests. Over 100 hotel staff would be on site every day, 24 hours a day. As proposed, on site alcohol sales are requested for a 5,500 square foot bar, restaurant and banquet facility that will host weddings, fundraisers and other parties for over 700 people. The banquet facilities would seat over 700 people. The slick brochure claims that the original proposal has been revised, reducing the project size by 43%, dining space by 37% and parking by 57%. According to the brochure, the 99room hotel has been downsized to 59 rooms; the parking has been downsized from 708 spaces to 302 spaces and there will be eight homes rather than nine homes on the property. However, the Los Angeles Planning Department has received no new permit requests and no revised plans. “To our knowledge, there has been no formal change to the application,” said Mark Levin, founder of Save Our Canyon, a group formed to oppose the project. “The implication,” he said, “is that making a slightly smaller hotel is hearing our collective voice, which is untrue. That is misleading. The community’s message is very clear: no hotel.” The proposed location is on 33 acres at the nexus of Wanda Park, Hutton Drive and Oak Pass Road. To build a hotel, which is commercial, in a residential zone, Safady has literally designed his own zone to accommodate his plans, which Levin says will impact the canyons throughout the area.

Pictured: The site of the planned hotel in Benedict Canyon.

Pictured: A cover of the brochure going around.

He is seeking a zone change from Minimum Residential, Low 1 Residential and Very Low II Residential to “Specialized Hospitality and Residential” and a General Plan Text Amendment to add a new Land Use Designation. In other words, he is asking the City of Los Angeles to create a brand-new land use designation to accommodate his vision because such a designation has never happened before. The zoning was created for his project. Last year, CD5 Councilmember Paul Koretz wrote a letter to the council opposing the project. “I do not want the planning entitlements to set a precedent or create a template for converting natural hillsides to hotel and other commercial uses. I cannot support… spot zoning… A project like this could have a profound impact on the surrounding community – forever changing the character of this residential area,” said Koretz in his letter. “The proposed 99-rooms, residential estates, a parking structure with hundreds of spaces, thousands of square feet for a ballroom and other ancillary spaces are a major concern. That is not to mention the infrastructure needed to support 24-hour staffing and patrons of a high-end hotel. I’m equally troubled by the potential environmental impacts such as traffic congestion on

COMING THIS SUMMER – Ma Yansong’s “Gardenhouse” (rendering pictured right) represents MAD Architects’ first project inside the United States, set to begin sales this summer. Billed as a “village on the hill,” Gardenhouse is a collection of residences and gardens enveloped by a living art wall, connecting architecture to landscape. Each residence is a free-standing custom home arranged about an open-air courtyard.  Interested prospective buyers must register now for priority access and pre-sale reservations, with sales commencing in early summer 2019 expected to be completed by fall 2019, according to a press release. Ma, principal and founder of MAD Architects, has an impressive portfolio, including the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art currently under construction in Exposition Park in Los Angeles. Compass is the leading sales agency with prices starting at $3.7 million. Visit www.gardenhousebh.com.

narrow roads, grading, removal of protected trees, impeding wildlife corridors along with the possible impact of a project this size on fire safety,” he wrote. “Lastly, the project seems entirely inconsistent with all the protective policies that I continue to work for including Hillside Construction Regulations, and the upcoming Wildlife Corridors and Ridgeline Protections.” In the brochure, the developer, Gary Safady, calls himself, “an avid environmentalist.” “The Retreat is an ecological haven designed to reflect the natural setting of the rolling Los Angeles landscape. At The Retreat, residents and guests can have the best of both worlds – the dynamism and convenience of the city

surrounded by the peaceful beauty of Benedict Canyon,” according to the brochure. Residents who have been careful stewards of the land for over 100 years disagree with his characterization. Within 48 hours of launching the website, organizers had amassed over 400 signatures in an online petition drive to send to Koretz. Opposition is fierce, as longtime residents seek to protect their homes and neighborhood. Already clogged with traffic during peak hours, Benedict Canyon would be further burdened, including the six or seven years of proposed construction, excavation, hauling and crew parking that would endanger residents on tiny Wanda Park and Oak Pass Road.

Classmates on our steering committee include Bonnie, me, Carey Appel Pearlman, Lilly Lewis, DeeDee Dorskind, Renee Turkell Brook, Jeff Lapin and Bob Friedman. Many other classmates of ours joined us at the reception. Our entire steering committee is looking forward to helping America’s VetDogs grow and expand in LA.” America’s VetDogs, based in New York, starts by breeding Labrador and Golden Retrievers, and Lab/Golden crosses just for this special job, ensuring that they have excellent health, intelligence, temperament and the drive to work and thrive on praise and rewards. Individuals receive personalized instruction while they bond with their dogs to form a team. Instruction is out of headquarters in Smithtown, New York and at locations across the United States in military hospitals and VA medical centers. Dogs are trained as Guide Dogs for those with limited or

no vision. Service Dogs are trained to provide balance, retrieve dropped items, open and close doors, toggle a light switch, carry a backpack and much more. PTSD Service Dogs are trained to mitigate the symptoms of PTSD, get help and interrupt nightmares. Hearing Dogs are trained to alert their handlers of sounds. Seizure Response Dogs are trained to perform special tasks following a seizure to get help, operate a call button or retrieve medication; and Facility Dogs that work with physical and occupational therapists to treat wounded service members as an integral part of the healing process. Graduates from the VetDogs program receive a lifetime of aftercare, including home visits and refresher courses from a team of field representatives. Veteran and Purple Heart recipient Hospital Corpsman Third Class HM3 Joe Worley spoke to guests about his experience with the organization and about how receiving a service dog has drastically positively impacted his life. For 16 months, Zuma and his five siblings have been the subject of NBC’s Puppy with a Purpose, following their progress as they begin the journey to become service or guide dogs. Soon, Zuma will begin formal training with a certified VetDog instructor for his future mission with an injured veteran. Worley was able to show how his incredible dog Galaxie helps him with his independence after a catastrophic injury. It takes $50,000 to raise, train and place a dog for assistance – at no cost to the veteran. Funding comes from individuals, corporations, foundations, businesses and community organizations. In 2013, America’s VetDogs became the second assistance dog school in the country to become accredited by the International Guide Dog Federation and Assistance Dogs International; the Guide Dog Foundation was first. BEVERLY HILLS

PUBLIC NOTICES RFQ # 19-350-02 CITY OF BEVERLY HILLS PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT 345 FOOTHILL ROAD BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA 90210 REQUEST FOR PREQUALIFICATION OF BIDDERS AND PREQUALIFICATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE GREYSTONE MANSION THEATER RESTORATION PROJECT: GREYSTONE MANSION THEATER RESTORATION Notice is hereby given that the City of Beverly Hills (“CITY”) has determined that all multi-prime bidders for the Greystone Mansion Theater Restoration Project (“Project”) must be pre-qualified prior to submitting a bid on that Project. It is mandatory that all Contractors who intend to submit a bid, fully complete the prequalification questionnaire, provide all materials requested herein, and be approved by the CITY to be on the final qualified Bidders list. No bid will be accepted from a Contractor that has failed to comply with these requirements. If two or more business entities submit a bid as part of a Joint Venture, or expect to submit a bid as part of a Joint Venture, each entity within the Joint Venture must be separately qualified to bid. The last date to submit a fully completed questionnaire is 2:00 PM Thursday, June 20, 2019. Contractors are encouraged to submit prequalification packages as soon as possible, so that they may be notified of omissions of information to be remedied or of their prequalification status in advance of the prequalification deadline for this Project. Answers to questions contained in the attached questionnaire (posted on the City’s Website [Beverlyhills.org  Business  Bid Listings  Prequalification Package for Greystone MansionTheater Restoration Project]) are required. The CITY will use these documents as the basis of rating Contractors with respect to whether each Contractor is qualified to bid on the Project, and reserves the right to check other sources available. The CITY’s decision will be based on objective evaluation criteria. The CITY reserves the right to adjust, increase, limit, suspend or rescind the prequalification rating based on subsequently learned information. Contractors whose rating changes sufficiently to disqualify them will be notified, and given an opportunity for a hearing consistent with the hearing procedures described below for appealing a prequalification rating. While it is the intent of the prequalification questionnaire and documents required therewith to assist the CITY in determining bidder responsibility prior to bid and to aid the CITY in selecting the lowest responsible bidder, neither the fact of prequalification, nor any prequalification rating, will preclude the CITY from a post-bid consideration and determination of whether a bidder has the quality, fitness, capacity and experience to satisfactorily perform the proposed work, and has demonstrated the requisite trustworthiness. The prequalification packages should be submitted under seal to the Office of the City Clerk, City of Beverly Hills, 455 North Rexford Drive, Room 290, Beverly Hills, CA 90210. The following should be clearly marked on the outside of the package “CONFIDENTIAL PREQUALIFICATION STATEMENT FOR THE GREYSTONE THEATER RESTORATION PROJECT” For any Questions regarding the questionnaire and the qualification package contact, Mandana

Motahari (email: mmotahari@beverlyhills.org). The prequalification packages submitted by Contractors are not public records and are not open to public inspection. All information provided will be kept confidential to the extent permitted by law. However, the contents may be disclosed to third parties for purpose of verification, or investigation of substantial allegations, or in an appeal hearing. State law requires that the names of contractors applying for prequalification status shall be public records subject to disclosure, and the first page of the questionnaire will be used for that purpose. Each questionnaire must be signed under penalty of perjury in the manner designated at the end of the form, by an individual who has the legal authority to bind the Contractor on whose behalf that person is signing. If any information provided by a Contractor becomes inaccurate, the Contractor must immediately notify the CITY and provide updated accurate information in writing, under penalty of perjury.

panel consisting of three members of the Public Works Department senior management staff (the “Appeals Panel”). The Appeals Panel shall consider any evidence presented by the Contractor, whether or not the evidence is presented in compliance with formal rules of evidence. The Contractor will be given the opportunity to present evidence, information and arguments as to why the Contractor believes it should be pre-qualified. Within one day after the conclusion of the hearing, the Appeals Panel will render a written determination as to whether the Contractor is pre-qualified. It is the intention of the CITY that the date for the submission and opening of bids will not be delayed or postponed to allow for completion of an appeal process.

NOTICE

Fictitious name statement expires five years from the date it was filed in the office of the county clerk. A new fictitious business name statement must be filed before that time. The filing of this statement does not of itself authorize the use in this state of a fictitious business name in violation of the rights of another under federal, state, or common law (See Section 14400, et seq., Business and Professions Code).

BY RUTH BLOOMFIELD MARGOLIN / EDITED BY WILL SHORTZ Ruth Bloomfield Margolin, of Westfield, N.J., began constructing crosswords after having an ‘‘I can do that!’’ reaction to a puzzle she solved. It took some time (and a couple of what she calls ‘‘polite rejections’’) before she got her first acceptance. This is now her 10th crossword for The Times. In her nonpuzzling life, Ruth holds leadership positions on several community nonprofit boards and tutors in an adult literacy program. — W.S.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR So our BHUSD Superintendant of Schools Dr. Michael Bregy “runs a tight ship.” Understandable, since one of his hires was a former anchor for the Queen Mary. But herein lies the problem--no one told the superintendant and the Board of Education that it was a school district and not a vessel they were running. Of course it does explain the “spending like a drunken sailor.” Robert Block

****** I am always delighted and amused by the hilarious and real life experiences that Roger Lefkon writes about in his essays on phobias. Each week I turn to the inside back page of the Courier, hoping to encounter another phobia that I and everyone else can relate to, and have a good laugh. Thank you, Roger, and please keep writing for us. Lauren Sax

Another Phobia From Roger Lefkon

FEAR OF TELLING THE TRUTH

Prisons are filled with bad liars while the good falsifiers are out running Fortune 500 companies. Rather than lying excessively, truly expert fabricators save their ammunition and don’t bother to deceive unless it’s going to get them something they really want like sex or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. We have all heard the expression: “honesty is the best policy.” If this were true, why do so many people succumb to Alethephobia, known in scientific circles as fear of the truth? When my high school girlfriend confronted me and demanded to know if I was also dating her sister, I declared, with a straight face: “not me;” and when my father inquired if I had prevailed upon my friend Mario to take my driving test for me, I responded “certainly not.” When the Vow Master asked me: “will you love and cherish your wife until death do us part?:” I crossed my fingers and declared “absolutely.” When my dog Piper looked at me and said: “are you sure that you don’t have any more treats?:” I responded: “I’m sure.” And when my therapist asked how I was today I replied: “relaxed and stress free.” As he bent over to light his pipe, I dashed out of his office with his session clock and framed photo of Sigmund Freud. The truth be told, when it comes to authenticity, candor, sincerity, truisms and trustworthiness, I have a profound fear of telling the truth. As a matter of fact it was during a screening of A Few Good Men that Jack Nicholson turned to the audience, and as our eyes met, he delivered that memorable line: “you can’t handle the truth.” My aversion to telling the truth really shifted into high gear when I read about Geppetto, a woodcarver from the South Bronx, and his creation, a wooden puppet with the unlikely name of Pinocchio whose propensity to lie causes his nose to grow every time he fails to tell the truth. Could this happen to me, I wondered? According to ENT specialists, the answer is “yes.” As it turns out when a person lies the nasal tissue, actually swells and reddens because the capillaries dilate, a phenomenon called the “Pinocchio effect.” Furthermore as we age, we are forced to tell more lies and as a result our noses get longer, although never long enough to go diving without a snorkel. Among the medical fraternity this is known as the Cumulative Lying Theory of Elderly Nose Growth or CLTENG for short. Because of my reluctance to tell the truth, I am constantly searching for a resolution to the shnoz dilemma and finally found one. It was as plain as the nose on my face--Rhinoplasty or as it is commonly known, a nose job! The nose job has a long and fraught histo-

ry. Did you know that modern Rhinoplasty was fathered by a Prussian Jew named Jacques Joseph? Born Jakob Joseph, at the urging of his mother, he later changed his name to the less nebbishy Jacques in order to attract young, single women to his practice. He rode an unparalleled wave of success and his proud mom Sara was able to boast to all her friends that when it came to nose reconstruction, her son had become the go-to doctor in Konigsberg. My fear of telling the truth was further enhanced when I enrolled in a psychology course called “How to Outsmart a Lie Detector test,” a skill set that came in handy when I was arrested at the airport for refusing a pat down and charged with hiding a can of Dr. Pepper in my carry on. With my biofeedback training I was able to control my breathing, blood pressure, pulse rate, perspiration levels and a gurgling, grumbling, growling stomach, the result of my being deprived of lunch. As a result of my keen understanding of the polygraph machine’s psychological characteristics, I was able to best the device and its tester, Natasha, a former Laker Girl turned TSA security agent. My propensity for deception encompasses all aspects of my life. When I come across the disclaimer: “I have read and agreed to the above terms and conditions,” I always click on the “I agree” button. I frequently say: “Don’t worry it will be okay” when I know that things are gonna get worse. Some of my other distortions of the truth include: I’m a Vegan; I floss every day; You’re breaking up, I’ll call you back; I am truly sorry, this is not who I really am; You’re the first woman I’ve ever done this with; If you marry me I promise to always put the toilet seat down and, to my dermatologist, the celebrated Dr. Wendy Hoffman, I say: “Of course I always apply sun block to my entire body.” However, the biggest lie I tell myself is: “I don’t need to write that down, I’ll remember it.” And as I said to my diet conscious wife Phyllis in a rare moment of candor: Forget about getting on the scale, the more you weigh the harder you are to kidnap. So stay safe and eat chocolate.” The take away from all of this is that most people have an innate predilection to practice dishonesty. Therefore, it’s always the best policy to speak the truth, unless of course you happen to be an exceptionally good liar. Astrology

By Holiday Mathis TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (June 7). Every magician knows that magic is not an outcome but a process in which dozens of unspectacular moves are executed to create the dazzling end result. You'll be the magician of your life. Wishing on a birthday candle will be the first move in producing a breathtaking transformation. The windfall is in October. Cancer and Leo adore you. GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You don’t get your shot when you’re good enough or when you deserve it. You get your shot when it comes up. Seize opportunity. You’ll either be surprised by what you can do or taught by it. CANCER (June 22-July 22). It’s true that people are motivated by money. But for most, the financial end is neither the sole motivation nor is it in the top three. You’ll be considering what makes a job worthwhile to you. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). People make assessments based on what they already know about the world. The more they know, the less likely they are to arrogantly assume knowledge. The smartest people question everything, including themselves. VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). If you think too far into the situation, you’re likely to get lost in details and complications, making it impossible to take a stance. Though this state is closer to truth, it's further away from action. LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Whether it’s ticket price of the movie or the backlash from a jealous friend that comes when you've paid attention to someone new, every dalliance requires a tribute. The wise factor this into their decisions. SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Intention is half the battle. You won't do everything right just because you have love in your heart, but you'll be inspired to listen better and consider the other person more carefully, and that's a start. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). While some express love effusively, enthusiastically and with bold demonstration, others would prefer to quietly provide something you need, which can be equally as loving. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Most would say that selfishness is an objectively unattractive quality, and yet some are subconsciously drawn to selfish people for reasons that might be mysterious even to themselves. Consider your attractions carefully today. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Just when you think you've outgrown a situation, a new challenge will crop up to engage and teach you. Don't be too quick to move on or write anything off. PISCES (Feb. 19-Mar. 20). You might feel yourself shying away from a situation, which is actually a good indicator that you should go forward instead. The only way to conquer fear is to let it dissipate through the action it was so afraid of. ARIES (Mar. 21-Apr. 19). To be effective in a room you have to read it first. Check out everyone's posture. Who's leaning in? Those are the helpers ready for opportunities to solve problems, mix it up, catch the trouble before it happens. TAURUS (Apr. 20-May 20). You're engaged and enthusiastic so the work goes by quickly, and unfortunately, so does the play. Take pictures and notes as a way of making moments last.
