By Matt Lopez The USS Iowa moved to its final destination in the Port of Los Angeles on Saturday and with it, carried the stories and memories of men who gave years of their lives to both the ship and the United States Armed Forces. Tugboats pulled the 887foot World War II-era battleship on a nearly four-mile trek to Berth 87 in San Pedro, where it will open as a museum on July 7. Bryan Moss, who served on the Iowa for 18 months during the Korean War said Saturday’s ceremony was the first time he had seen the ship since 1953. “It will always be the first duty I had in the Navy and the best duty I had,” Moss said. “The Big Stick,” as it’s often referred to, with its big guns and top speed (32 knots, or 38 miles (see ‘USS IOWA,’ page 11)
