Veteran BHUSD Administrator Tedford Heads To El Segundo After Rocky Start With New Superintendent Bregy By Laura Coleman The chasm between Beverly Hills teachers and administrators reached a new low this week with Chief Academic Officer Jen Tedford’s announcement that after 21 years with Beverly Hills Unified she would be moving to El Segundo Unified to become that district’s high school principal. In an email sent out to colleagues early Wednesday morning, just after the El Segundo Board of Education voted her into the position, Tedford wrote: “It is bittersweet to leave this amazing district, and I confess, I am already missing you all, and it is still only June. do in August when this change truly sinks in, I cannot imagine.” In fact, Tedford was edged out of BHUSD by Superintendent Michael Bregy after he had been on the job for (see ‘TEDFORD’ page 19)

Beverly Hills’ Spiegel Family, KISS’ Gene Simmons Honored At Yad Vashem Gala By Laura Coleman The power of stories was in full force at Wednesday evening’s “Salute To Hollywood” fundraiser at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel for the American Society for Yad Vashem and the Jewish Life Foundation. As the number of Holocaust survivors continues to dwindle every day, the importance of preserving and sharing their stories as testaments to the 6 million Jews murdered during the Second World War remains paramount. “A good story well told can change the world,” stated Participant Media EVP Jonathan King, who presented Denial

said Vice Mayor Julian Gold to Singh. Gold, along with Mayor Lili Bosse, was a liaison in the search process on the ad hoc committee. “What you are asking can be done,” said Singh. “It will take work, challenging perspectives. I invite you [tenants and landlords] to be here so I can hear you and work with you. Come prepared to be organized and, in a civil way… to find a solution.” The council rejected hiring a real estate professional during the facilitated discussions, fearing that an expert, “would put their thumb on the scale,” said Councilmember John Mirisch. “One side or the other will feel they are being led in a direction,” agreed Bosse. Parcels 12 & 13 Stumps To Be Partly Removed During Santa Monica Boulevard Reconstruction By Victoria Talbot The community and the City Council were taken for a trolley ride Tuesday immediately preceding the City Council study session for a site visit of the stumps on the Santa Monica Boulevard (SMB) side of Parcels 12 & 13. The tour, led by Beverly Hills Deputy Building Official David Yelton, was an effort to provide a visual context to the Lindmark Engineering report, which recommends clearing all the stumps to provide access for the curb and gutter

By Victoria Talbot The Beverly Hills City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to accept a recommendation to hire Sukhsimranjit Singh, Associate Director of Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution and Pepperdine University Assistant Professor of Law, to facilitate discussion between landlords and tenants to further refine the Rent Stabilization Ordinance. Singh served on the faculty at Willamette University College of Law and Willamette School of Management teaching mediation theory and advocacy. replacement during that phase of the SMB reconstruction project. Plum lines strung across the area delineated the City’s right of way and the required setback for the curbs and gutters for the SMB reconstruction. Yelton explained that a 2015 report by Gruen Associates that cited only 13 trees that needed to be removed was inaccurate and the real number of tree stumps to be removed is higher.
