By Victoria Talbot Last week, the Beverly Hills Planning Commission, in a 3-1 vote (Chair Andy Licht recused himself) denied Spring Place a Zone Text Amendment (ZTA) and a Development Plan Review (DPR) to allow additional operations for an existing private co-working club that opened in October 2018. The request was to allow rooftop music outside the business triangle and to allow up to 10 guests per member to use the rooftop amenities, intensifying the use of the property and potentially, the impact on

the neighborhood. Spring Place is in a transitional zone, bordering on a residential neighborhood of multi-family dwellings. On May 24, 2018, the project came to the Planning Commission as a shared workspace with a social component, including a restaurant and bar. The agenda item described Spring Place as a coworking office space with amenities. “The proposed project is requested in the context of the (see ‘SPRING PLACE’ page 17)

By Matt Lopez Thousands descended upon Rodeo Drive on Sunday for the 26th annual Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance, which celebrated 100 years of Bentley. The day started with overcast weather, but clouds and the threat of possible rain didn’t deter an estimated 46,000 from stopping by to check out the more than 100 exotic and classic cars that lined Rodeo Drive. “This year was our most successful Rodeo Drive Concours event to date,” said Bruce Meyer, chairman of the Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance. “The show is put on each year to give back to the community. It is a way to honor dads, to support the Beverly Hills Police Foundation and to share the best cars in the world with local enthusiasts. We did that and much more and are already working on an exciting and special theme for 2020.” The special display of Bentley was highlighted by 1927 Bentley 3/4.5 Litre Le Mans Special, a 1928 Bentley 4.5 Litre, a 1960 Bentley S2 Continental, and the world’s most accurate recreation of the historic 1930 Bentley “Blue Train”. The day’s big winner was the 1925 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost,

owned by Aaron and Valerie Weiss, which was awarded “Best of Show” at the 26th annual Rodeo Drive Concours. The 1925 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost is an elegant two-door design known as a Piccadilly with coachwork by Brewster. Weiss calls the car the “quintessential Rodeo Drive car of the era” and something which would have been driven by many silent film stars. Other specialty displays at the event included a selection of modern supercars like the 2020 McLaren GT alongside the Rimac Concept_Two, Bentley Continental GT, Bugatti Chiron, Rolls-Royce Cullinan and a special Aston Martin DB11 “Beverly Hills” Edition with matching luggage display, from O’Gara Coach. Additional highlights included a “Future Classics” display by ClassicCars.com and displays by Ferrari Beverly Hills, Santa Monica Maserati, Superformance, BMW Performance Center, BMW Beverly Hills and Compass. “The cars and crowds were simply incredible and we are happy to help a historic brand like Bentley celebrate its 100th anniversary,” Beverly Hills mayor John Mirisch said.
