By Matt Lopez A record 50,000 people filled the streets of Rodeo Drive on Sunday for the biggest Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance in history. Spanning six City blocks with 130 luxury automobiles lining the street, the 24th annual Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance was one of the largest public events in Southern California. “It’s hard to imagine that we’ve had a 24-year run of continued success with this year’s show being our runaway best ever,” said Rodeo Drive Concours chairman Bruce Meyer. "Next year will be our 25th anniversary show and we’re starting our plans already. What’s most gratifying to me is our diverse audience who all enjoy the art and excitement of the day. What started as a neighborhood show has

grown to international status and acclaim, and it’s free.” ABC7’s Dave Kunz returned to emcee the event, which featured celebrity influencers like Jay Leno, Caitlyn, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, who joined the thousands who bared the heat to get up-close and personal looks at the tons of rare and classic cars. Premier sponsors for the event included GEARYS Beverly Hills and Mercedes-Benz. Additional sponsors included The Auto Gallery, O’Gara, Ferarri Beverly Hills, RM Sotheby’s, P ZERO World, Two Rodeo, Brooks Brothers, What Goes Around Comes Around, Fusion Motor Company, Tesla, Sprinkles, Laduree, Lacoste, The Beverly Wilshire, CVB and the Beverly Hills Courier.

Tronstein’s father, who owned property on Rodeo Drive before he passed away in 1995, was one of the founders of the committee along with Jerry Magnin, Herb Fink and Fred Hayman. Highly regarded for his calm demeanor and ability to solve problems, Tronstein finishes his presidency at the end of this month, passing that title onto

tion with a bike path between Doheny Drive and Wilshire Boulevard. Cyclists insisted that the path be continued on North Santa Monica Boulevard and a discussion that explored paths along Carmelita and South Santa Monica Boulevard was rejected. Former Mayors Robert Tanenbaum and Nancy Krasne were opposed, citing concerns over blind spots, oversized construction vehicles and buses on the busy route. Both mayors agreed that bike lanes were needed, but disagreed that North Santa Monica Boulevard was an appropriate path. City, School District Remain At Impasse Over JPA With One Week Left By Laura Coleman Following the second of two contentious City-school liaison meetings this week, the future of the Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) remained uncertain after representatives from the City Council and the Board of Education failed to reach any meaningful consensus. The current annual $9.7 million JPA is set to expire at the end of this month. Without a new contract, the City’s summer programming will be completely disrupted and the school district risks forfeiting roughly onesixth of its operating budget. “The council is trying hard not to disrupt things [and] to keep in place the existing

By Victoria Talbot More than 45 cyclists appeared at Council Chambers to add public comments in favor of bike lanes on North Santa Monica Boulevard Tuesday evening, and show support for the measure. The Beverly Hills City Council voted unanimously in favor of striping the busy thoroughfare for bikes and filling in a gap in the bike lane that currently exists on the boulevard between West Hollywood and Century City. The City Council chambers were filled with cycling enthusiasts from throughout West Los Angeles enthusiastically encouraged the council to approve staff recommendations to finish the North Santa Monica Boulevard reconstruc-

agreement for some period of time,” codified Vice Mayor Julian Gold. For the past 16 months, the two entities have been attempting - and failing - to reach an agreement on the terms of a new JPA. In fact, it wasn’t until Tuesday morning that the school district representatives even told City officials a precise dollar amount of what they wanted the new JPA to be: specifically, $13.5 million. That amount (like the current $9.7 million annual base amount proposed by the City) would be in addition to an annual payment of $125,000 for crossing guards, as well as the City paying for (see ‘JPA’ page 12)
