a 10-year lease through its parent company, Richemont North America, for the 1,500square foot City-owned space formerly occupied by Geary’s Rodeo Drive. Per City agreements, Geary’s will turn over the space on July 15 in

“broom clean” condition and Vacheron will pay higher rent. The oldest Swiss watchmaker in the world, Vacheron Constantin will front Geary’s new Rolex boutique and soon-to-open Patek Philippe boutique across the street.

By Laura Coleman The Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education approved its 2012/13 budget Tuesday 3-0. Voting for the budget were board president Brian Goldberg, vice president Jacob Manaster board member Leis Hall. Board members Lisa Korbatov and Noah Margo were not present. The budget included $3 million in cuts but avoids layoffs, class size increases, program cuts and forced furlough days. “This board should be congratulated,” Superintendent Gary Woods told The Courier. As a “Basic Aid” district, BHUSD receives more in local property taxes than is allowed by state law, meaning that the district must send some of its funds back to the state of California. The status does not eliminate the need to maintain a reserve with the Los Angeles County Office of Education, which must be at least 3 percent of the district’s annual budget. By Matt Lopez The many successes that Brooke Knapp helped spearhead in her year as Beverly Hills Rotary Club president came flooding into her mind Monday at her Demotion Party as her presidential term came to an end. Knapp, a member of the Rotary Club of Beverly Hills since 1995, was honored Monday afternoon at the Montage Hotel for her year of service as President. During the ceremony she was presented with a proclamation from the City. (see ‘ROTARY,’ page 15)

By City News Service The Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors agreed Thursday to ask Los Angeles County voters in November to approve a 30-year extension of the half-cent Measure R transportation sales tax approved just four years ago.

Measure R was originally set to expire in 2038, but proponents said approving an extension now will allow Metro to accelerate projects while construction costs are low. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, (see ‘MEASURE R,’ page 12)
