Revamped Walk Of Style Highlights Rodeo Drive Committee’s 2017-18 Plans By Matt Lopez The Rodeo Drive Committee is gearing up to celebrate fashion with a slate of events next year headlined by the return of a rebranded Rodeo Drive Walk of Style. The proposed Runway to Rodeo is part of a “runway to retail” experience that would allow Rodeo Drive merchants to showcase a handful of looks, which would be immediately available instore following a fashion show on Rodeo Drive. Agen-C, the marketing firm working with the Rodeo Drive Committee, anticipates Runway to Rodeo could be held in January,
around awards season. In addition to showcasing Rodeo Drive’s merchants, the event would continue the Walk of Style’s tradition of honoring an icon in the fashion industry. “I haven’t been this excited about a program in a really long time,” said Mayor Lili Bosse. The Runway to Rodeo fashion event is part of a $1.5 million funding request made by the Rodeo Drive Committee, which includes the annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony and the return of a floral interactive photo display that was a big hit on Rodeo Drive earlier this year. By Laura Coleman Growing up in a small upscale neighborhood just outside of Pittsburgh, Penn., Rhea Worms never imagined just how big and glamorous the rest of the world could be. But then everything changed when her family moved out to California in the early 1940’s when she was 16, taking up residence for two months at the Ambassador Hotel before settling into an L.A. home off of Sunset. “My family fell in love with California,” she recalled. Her father, who owned a department store and much of the
By Matt Lopez Metro is prepared to take the next big step in its Purple Line Extension tunneling through Beverly Hills after a 40 approval from the City Council last Thursday to relocate existing Southern California Edison (SCE) utility lines during construction of the Wilshire Boulevard/Rodeo Drive Metro station. Local businesses, including restaurants Spago and Citizen on Canon Drive, had previously opposed plans that called for Metro to trench and excavate in the area, which would have placed left-turn restrictions from eastbound Wilshire Boulevard onto Canon Drive. The restaurants requested

no work be allowed that would restrict left turns on their heaviest traffic days – Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The first phase of SCE utility relocation for the Wilshire/Rodeo station is expected to begin in late July. For work that requires left-turn restrictions, work times will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Phase two begins Sept. 2017. Murray Fischer, an attorney representing both Spago and Citizen, said at Thursday’s meeting that his clients felt the Memorandum of Understanding before the City Council for Metro’s work was satisfactory. The extension gives the City and the school district some breathing room to hammer out the details of a new JPA. Two weeks ago, Board of Education member Howard Goldstein asked the City to increase the JPA to $13.5 million. The City, in turn, has requested that the contract includes a bevy of language

By Laura Coleman Following last week’s 3-2 Board of Education vote to extend the Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) through August, City summer programs located at school district sites will continue without interruption. The current $9.7 million JPA, which includes an additional $125,000 for school crossing guards and City Ambassadors, expired at the end of last month, but both the City and the school district agreed to a two-month extension. “I am optimistic and hopeful that we will reach a positive outcome within the two month extension,” Mayor Lili Bosse said. “The City and
