Happy Birthday Mike Antonovich! By The Courier Staff & Winston Chua The Courier warmly wishes L.A. County Supervisor Mike Antonovich an early, but very happy 73rd birthday. Antonovich, born Aug. 12, was elected to the L.A. County Board of Supervisors in 1980 and has been reelected every 4 years since then. The supervisor celebrated his birthday with friends and family in Montebello on Wednesday evening, continu(see ‘BIRTHDAY’ page 16)

By Laura Coleman Beverly Hills High School Principal Carter Paysinger continues to be “floored” by the news that Simon & Schuster will be publishing his still unwritten memoir, he told The Courier. “It’s a really interesting story,” he said, crediting his mother with shaping his life trajectory that positioned a factory worker’s son from South Central to

WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN’ GOIN’ ON—Felicia Farrell and Bryan Fenhart co-star in the 2010 Tony Awardwinning musical Memphis, playing this weekend at the Pantages Theatre, where orchestra seats start at $25. The music’s infectiously upbeat. Funky rock, gospel, Motown-ish tunes (although none are hummable as you exit the theatre), with muscle-man choreography by Sergio Trujillo. A night full of fun, Memphis underscores that the white man’s discovery and love of soul drifted audiences away from Patti Page’s Doggie in the Window and Happy Trails with Roy Rogers. Will Mann (insert) amazes with his dancing feats. More photos in George Christy’s Page 6 and, don’t miss his pic of the week about Tinsel Town noir on page 11.
