By Krystal Leach Amante Morgan Stanley Smith Barney held a reception for Congressional Medal of Honor recipient retired Army Col. Bruce Crandall at The Beverly Hilton Thursday. The event was part of the firm’s series “A Celebration of our Freedom”, honoring the outstanding efforts and sacrifices made by the nation’s veterans. The reception was co-sponsored by The Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation. Col. Crandall was originally awarded the Medal during a ceremony at the White House by President George W. Bush on Feb. 26, 2007. He received the medal for his heroic actions in the Vietnam War during the battle of Ia Drang and is one of 85 living Medal of Honor recipients. The evening consisted of a cocktail reception, keynote address from the Colonel and screening of a short film highlighting the history of the medal. Col. Crandall also signed copies of the book Medal Of Honor: Portraits of Honor Beyond The Call Of Duty. The book celebrates 150 years of the medal, chronicling the living recipients of the nation’s highest commendation. According to the firm’s Managing Director Bob Jerome, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney has been a longstanding supporter of veterans. “We have a veterans hiring network and an active internal networking program as well,” he said. “We will do 60 events around the country this year honoring these American heroes.” Jerome said that his participation in the organizing and hosting these events has afforded him the opportunity to “by far meet the most remarkable group of people I’ve ever worked with.”
