Updated from web article, Oct 19: After stalling for nearly ten months and hiding its technical data from the public and most of its own board members, the staff of the Metropolitan Transit Authority this afternoon reported to its Planning Committee a tunnel under Beverly Hills High School is the “only” safe route to build the Westside Subway Extension into Century City. The just-released information caused a furious response from angry MTA board members over manipulation by Third District Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. The route is the one favored by Century City developers JMB Realty and the Century Plaza Hotel ownership. Both have made massive campaign contributions to the Los Angeles politicians. The MTA made this information available months ago to Yaroslavsky and Villaraigosa while other board members were kept in the dark.
