BANDHINI DESIGN HOUSE

CELEBRATING 30 YEARS

Bandhini is a seed grown from a small pod and kept special by our close-knit ties since 1993. Our favourite things are what nature gives — from trees, cocoons & seeds.

Family is important to us. Bandhini was founded by the joining of 2 families from across the globe, the Schafflers and the Narains. Mithoo and Sweety and their sons, Sharan and Karan, continue to work together with Tai and the Bandhini Australia team, creating unique one-of-a-kind designs inspired by culture and nature.

What Makes Us Special

We believe our products are beautiful and functional without cost to human or environmental life.

We strive to keep our product handcrafted, without the use of heavy petrol-powered machinery. We use handwoven natural fibres that are vat dyed with natural dyes — having no harsh impact on the environment.

Our products are made from the earth, and after a lifetime of love, will gently return to the earth.

We have a strong focus on ethical labour. We work with our craftspeople to stay in their local villages, ensuring they are not displaced for work.

We believe that without support, many ancient crafts will become extinct in the near future as generatIons move from craft-based production into petro-chemical production.

That’s why we are making it our mission to keep craftsmanship alive.

Our Experience

Bandhini is celebrating 30 years of designing beautiful handmade textiles.

We have worked with many incredible clients such as Spicers Retreats, Opal Aged Care, Gaia Resort, Sofitel Hotels, Kokomo Resort and The Reef House, suppling both indoor and outdoor cushions, artwork and bedding.

We were proudly nominated as an American Arts Award Nominee and have a strong presence in the commercial styling industry.

Our Designs

All our incredibly unique designs are that of Tai Schaffler, the founder of Bandhini. Our designs are manufactured out of our own production unit in India, where we have complete control over the construction and quantity of our product. With no middle man, this keeps the cost of our products down.

$1500 Design Consult

With our initial design consult you will have the oppurtunity to dicuss your project with Tai and our Design Team. We will then provide an overall plan for your project moving foward.

For a further fee Bandhini can help with project coordination — including sourcing furniture and finishes as well as full installation.

Bandhini Embellished Cushions

Our feature cushions use a combination of textile techniques and are perfect to make a statement and leave a lasting impression.

Tailored to you, we can adapt our stand-out designs to our commercial grade fabrics. This gives you an incredibly wide range of designs to choose from — making your project truly unique.

Bandhini Outdoor Cushions

We produce the most opulent range of outdoor cushions on the market today. Globally, we don’t know of any other company designing embroidered and appliqué cushions suitable for the great outdoors. We use only the best quality outdoor TuvaTextil fabrics to withstand the elements — excellent for long-lasting commercial use.

Bandhini Bedding

We can provide a wide range of custom bedding including quilts, bed sashes and throws in a range of styles and fabrics such as Dupion Silk, 100% Linen and 100% Cotton. As all our bedding is made to order, we can create customised designs incorporating the trademark Bandhini traditional tecniques of applique and embroidery or personalised monograms and logos.

Bandhini Art

Our beautiful range of artwork adds a new dimension to the commercial arena. Handmade and unique, you can find our artwork on the walls of Gaia Resort, Reef House, Sofitel Hotels and Rydges Hotel & Resorts as well as Aged Care homes across the country.

Our Textile Artwork is handmade at our Tallebudgera Valley HQ using hand-crafted natural elements, and we also supply a wide range of Zio Bios mixed-media artworks to offer the perfect solution for any space or aesthetic.

PAST PROJECTS

Trinity Beach Palace

GAIA RETREAT & SPA

BANGALOW, NSW

On this project we selected existing Bandhini cushions and also developed custom-made pieces incorporating the Gaia logo and elements of our Dreamtime series, connecting with nature and paying homage to the land the retreat is built on.

In addition to soft furnishings, Bandhini has worked with the clients in stages to develop the entire design concept and select furniture and finishes for the day spa, treatment rooms, suites, villas, restaurants, poolside and outdoor areas.

KOKOMO PRIVATE ISLAND RESORT

YAUKUVE LEVU ISLAND, FIJI

We are very proud to have worked on this amazing project with Interior Designer Philip Garner and the Kokomo architect. This luxury resort called for finishes that were nothing short of exeptional, drawing from the pristine Fijian island surroundings and infusing relaxed opulence thoughout. With sustainability at the forefront of Kokomo’s design, our ethically made Bandhini cushions in natural, durable fabrics were the ideal choice to complete each space.

To begin, Bandhini presented a range of looks in Nautical, Tribal and Animal themes for cushions and bedding. In addition, we selected options for artwork of both Bandhini natural textile art and sourced pieces from various artists. The end result was a natural palette through communal spaces and a touch of colour personalised to each villa and private residence to compliment the individual setting of each guesthouse.

TRINITY BEACH PALACE

TRINITY BEACH, QLD

Bandhini were brought in to refresh this entire resort including reception seating, bar, lounge and outdoor areas plus their array of suites, each with a unique theme and colour scheme. This involved a complete overhaul of cushions, bedding, artwork and accessories, and we worked closely with the resort to develop each concept and present carefully considered details to complete every look.

The final outcome was an extravagant installation where not a detail was missed, incorporating animal prints, tribal patterns, luxurious fabrics and hand crafted artworks that flowed seamlessly from the interior to the exteriors and carefully tied in with the natural elements of wood, stone and marble construction and existing leather lounges.

REEF HOUSE

PALM COVE, QLD

We have been lucky enough to work with Reef House multiple times over the years to supply cushions, artwork and decorative furnishings and to provide updated decor when the time came to refresh. As part of these processes, we presented Reef House with selections of printed and applique outdoor cushions for balcony seating and lounges, chosen to fit with the views of palms trees and the sea.

We also supplied bed and lounge cushions for the 5 star boutique rooms and seating areas as well as hand-made textile artwork, assembled from natural shell and grass elements to fit into the coastal surroundings. To finish each room, we selected additional accessories including decorative shields, carved totems, woven baskets and shell wall hangings for elegnat and cohesive styling.

SPICERS TAMARIND RETREAT

MALENY, QLD

Our brief for Spicers Tamarind Retreat was to refresh their villas and develop a flowing concept using shades of green, which connected the indoor to the outdoor areas. Working with existing seating and lounges, we presented two looks for each space incorporating various textures, lines and natural patterns in the scheme.

The final look included designs from our Outdoor Global and Outdoor Nautical series customised into the selected colour choices, along with full reupholstery of the outdoor chair and daybed cushions using Agora 100% Solution Dyed Acrylic fabric to ensure easy cleaning and durability for a long lifespan.

The interior choices included our Rake Palm lounge cushion designs to coordinate with existing artwork, each made from soft, hand-woven velvet and cotton fabrics with applique and embroidery techniques for added detail and texture.

When the Pacific Cairns was launching their Tropical Luxe Apartments they contacted interior designer Janine Lauder to help with the finishing touches. She came to Bandhini to provide cushion solutions that were durable and serviceable, as well as beautiful and tropical to coordinate with the furniture and bold wallpaper selections.

PACIFIC HOTEL CAIRNS,

QLD

We used high quality and durable fabrics for the luxurious shell embellished bed cushions, with easily removable embellishments for washing purposes. Our beautiful shell artwork was also used to finish off the tropical feel to the room, as were our turtle sea creature embroidered textile artworks designed specifically for them.

OPAL AGED CARE

TOONGABBIE, NSW & APPLECROSS, WA

Working across two locations for Opal Aged care, we developed fully customised indoor and outdoor lounge and lumbar cushion designs for communal living spaces, as well as reupholstery for existing furniture. Through this process Bandhini assisted in selecting colour schemes and fabric swatches for each area, which were made up into digital designs before the final creations were hand-sewn at our Tallebudgera HQ.

PALM LAKES RESORT

BEACHMERE, QLD

Working with a light and airy palette through their rooms, we supplied Palm Lakes Resort Beachmere with a varied yet coordinated range of cushions in a white base with neutral tones for sofas and bedding in their residential villas and care suites. The end result was a timeless and elegant look with a bright, fresh feel.

ARTHUR BLACKBURN VC GARDENS

PORT MAQUARIE, NSW

On this project, Caroline McNally of McNally Architects and I+D Studio bought Bandhini on board to supply artwork for most of the common areas. Textile works such as shell rings, block prints and hand weaves were used to compliment the soothing coastal style.

“We chose the Islanders in calming neutrals, providing interest in texture and complimenting the other artworks throughout the centre. The seashells reflected our coastal concept and the Africian Armour and Shield Natural artworks complimented the furniture from Cotsworlds Furnishing.
