Kindergarten Screening in Belle Fourche

MONDAY, MARCH 13, 2023 • 8AM-3PM NORTH PARK SCHOOL - 29 N. 6TH AVE.

Any child who is five years old or will be by September 1, 2023 is eligible for Kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year.

Parents MUST bring a certified copy of the child’s birth certificate and immunization records. They will also be asked to furnish some directory information such as date of birth, address, and telephone number. Besides enrollment information, school staff will be using the DIAL-4 to gain information about each child’s development. Immunizations can be received at your doctor’s office or the Community Health Nurse’s office (605-892-2523)

Appointments required - call North Park at 723-3379 to schedule an appointment ASAP. Appointments generally last one hour. Current Kindergarten students will not have school this day.

Love

She loves everybody and everyone she meets instantly love her. Love enjoys the game fetch and tug-ofwar. She’ll play till she passes out. Love is also very smart. She knows how to: sit, stay, lie down, wait, and sit pretty.

Valentine

This sweetheart is spayed and up to date on all of her vaccines. She does little happy taps when she sees someone she knows. She always wants to play and loves to go on walks. Valentine’s favorite toy is a squeaky Velociraptor.

Cadbury

This handsome boy loves to play with anyone and everyone. Cadbury’s best friend is his sister Ghirardelli (No, they do not have to be adopted together). It seems like they’re always playing. When it’s nap-time for them they’re cuddling next to each other. Cadbury loves cuddles!

Edwin

He is picky when it comes to petting and holding. He only likes the top part of his body scratched. Once you start to show affection he’ll crawl in your lap and take a nap. Edwin is very social when it comes to other cats. He is very vocal around them and when he gets the chance he tries to get closer to them.

SSI: 50 years of financial security

The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program helps support many American families. As we celebrate 50 years of SSI, it is a great time to briefly share the history of SSI and information on how to apply.

On October 30, 1972, President Nixon signed SSI into law. In January 1974, we began paying SSI to people who met the eligibility requirements.

Fifty years later, SSI remains a lifeline program for millions of people and households with limited income and resources. SSI also helps children and adults under age 65 who have a disability or are blind and who have income and resources below specific financial limits. People age 65 and older without disabilities–who meet the financial qualifications–may also receive SSI payments.

You can let us know that you want to apply for SSI online at www.ssa.gov/

benefits/ssi/start.html. This process only takes about five to ten minutes, and no documentation is required to start. We will need the following basic information about you or the person you’re helping:

- The name, date of birth, Social Security number, mailing address, and phone number of the person who is interested in applying for SSI. (Providing an email address is optional.)

- If helping another person, we need your name and phone number. (Providing an email address is optional.)

Once you provide this information and answer a few questions, we will schedule an appointment to help you apply for SSI. We will send a confirmation with the appointment date and time by mail and email (if provided). In some cases, we may call you to schedule the appointment.

If you’re unable to begin the process online, you may

schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday. You may also contact your local Social Security office. You can find the

phone number for your local office on our website.

Once your SSI application is submitted, you can check the status online by creating a personal my Social Security account at www.ssa.gov/myaccount.

SSI will continue to support families for many years to come.

How to get your new baby’s social security number

Welcoming a baby to your family is an exciting time. Doing paperwork, even for something as important as a Social Security number for your newborn, is probably one of the last things you want to do. We’ve made it easy. If your child is born in a hospital, the most convenient way to apply for a Social Security number is at that hospital before you leave.

When you give information for your child’s birth certificate at the hospital, you’ll be asked whether you want to apply for a Social Security number for your child. If you answer “yes,” you will be asked to provide both parents’ Social Security numbers. Even if you don’t know both parents’ Social Security numbers, you can still apply for a number for your child.

Change your address and phone number online with My Social Security

There are many reasons why your child should have a Social Security number. You need a Social Security number to claim your child as a dependent on your income tax return. You may also need a number for your child if you plan to do the following for your child:

- Open a bank account.

- Buy savings bonds.

- Get medical coverage.

- Apply for government services.

Please share this information with people who are having a baby. Applying for a Social Security number at the hospital will save them time and let them focus on their new bundle of joy.

If you receive Social Security benefits, the easiest way to change your address and phone number is by creating a personal my Social Security account at www. ssa.gov/myaccount. Once you create your account, you can update your contact information from your preferred location. This feature is available for people who receive retirement, survivors, or disability benefits, along with Medicare enrollees. If you receive Supplemental Security Income, you can check the address that we have on record with your account.

Visit our my Social Security webpage to get started. To create an account, you must:

- Be at least 18 years old.

- Provide a valid email address.

- Have a Social Security number (SSN).

- Provide a U.S. mailing address (includes military addresses, APO/FPO/DPO, AE, AP, or AA).

Once you have a valid email address, you are ready to create your personal my Social Security account.

When you visit my Social Security, select the “Create an Account” button. You will have the option to create your new my Social Security account with one of our two credential partners: Login.gov or ID.me.

- Login.gov is the public’s one account for simple, secure, and private access to participating U.S. government agencies.

- ID.me is a single sign-on provider that meets the U.S. government’s online identity proofing and authentication requirements.

Please note, if you already have a Login.gov or ID.me account, you can select the appropriate button to sign in with either one and

access your personal my Social Security account. If you previously verified your identity with Login.gov or ID.me, you don’t need to do so again. If you don’t have a Login.gov or ID.me account, please select the “Create an Account” link to start the onetime registration process. If you create a new Login. gov credential, we will still complete the identity verification part, so you will need to provide some personal information to us. You will also receive an activation code from us to complete the process.

Access your earnings history with “My Social Security”

It may have been years or even decades since you thought about how much you earned at your first job. Did you know that you can find out how much you made that first year? Or any year you worked? Your earnings history is a record of your progress toward your future Social Security benefits. We track your earnings so we can pay you the benefits you’ve earned over your lifetime. That is why it’s so important for you to review your earnings record.

You should review your earnings history and let us know if there are any errors or omissions, even though it’s your employer’s responsibility to provide accurate earnings information to us. Otherwise, you will not get credit for money you paid in payroll taxes, and your future Social Security benefits will be lower than you should receive. You’re the only person who can look at your lifetime earnings record and verify that it’s complete and correct. If an employer didn’t properly report even just one year of your earnings to us, that error could reduce your future benefit payments. Over your lifetime, that could cost you thousands of dollars in retirement or other benefits

that you’re entitled to receive. It’s important to identify and report errors as soon as possible. If too much time passes, it could be hard for you to get older tax documents. Also, some employers may no longer exist or be able to provide past payroll information.

The best way to verify your earnings record is to visit www.ssa. gov/myaccount and create or sign in to your personal my Social Security account. You should review your earnings carefully every year and confirm them using your own records, such as W-2s and tax returns. Keep in mind that earnings from this year and last year may not be listed yet. When you have a my Social Security account, we send you an email three months before your birthday to remind you to check your earnings and to get future benefit estimates.

When should you start receiving social security benefits?

We encourage you to weigh all the facts carefully before making the crucial decision about when to begin receiving Social Security benefits. This decision affects the monthly benefit you will receive for the rest of your life, and may affect benefit protection for your survivors.

SSA’s Retirement Portal

We’re often asked, “What’s the best age to start receiving retirement benefits?” The answer is: there’s not a single “best age” for everyone. The most important thing is to make an informed decision. Base your decision about when to apply for benefits on your individual and family circumstances.

Would it be better for you to start getting benefits early with a smaller monthly amount for more years, or wait for a larger monthly payment over a shorter timeframe? The answer is personal and depends on several factors, such as your current cash needs, your current health, and your family longevity. You should also consider plans to work in retirement and other sources of retirement income. Most importantly, study your future financial needs and obligations, and calculate your future Social Security benefit.

New start dates for Medicare Part B coverage in 2023

Changes are coming in 2023 for when Medicare Part B coverage starts.

What is not changing:

Our retirement portal at www.ssa. gov/retirement is more user-friendly and easier to navigate, whether you’re ready to learn about, apply for, or manage your retirement benefits. The redesigned portal will make it easier for you to find and read about retirement benefits, with fewer pages and clearer information. We condensed and rewrote most of the pages to make them easier to understand. The portal is compatible for use on mobile devices so you can learn and do what you want from wherever you want.

- Retirement Publications

- Benefit Calculators

- Retirement benefits estimates

- Full retirement age information

- Spouse benefits

You and your loved ones can access all of these resources at www. ssa.gov/benefits/retirement.

- If you are eligible at age 65, your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP):

- Begins three months before your 65th birthday.

- Includes the month of your 65th birthday.

- Ends three months after your 65th birthday.

If you are automatically enrolled in Medicare Part B or if you sign up during the first three months of your IEP, your

coverage will start the month you’re first eligible. If you sign up the month you turn 65, your coverage will start the first day of the following month. This won’t change with the new rule.

What is changing:

Starting January 1, 2023, your Medicare Part B coverage starts the first day of the month after you sign up if you sign up during the last three months of your IEP.

Before this change, if you signed up during the last three months of your IEP,

your Medicare Part B coverage started two to three months after you enrolled.

If you don’t sign up for Medicare Part B during your IEP, you have another chance each year during the General Enrollment Period (GEP). The GEP lasts from January 1 through March 31. Starting January 1, 2023, your coverage starts the first day of the month after you sign up. You can learn more about these updates on our Medicare webpage at www.ssa.gov/ medicare.

Social security cards are safer at home

Scams to steal your personal information are at an all-time high. The need to safeguard important personal documents such as your Social Security card continues to be very important.

A Social Security card is not an identification document. In many situations, you only need to know your Social Security number (SSN). Your physical card is not necessary for most business needs.

Do you need evidence for work?

There are several documents you can use instead of your card. Other acceptable evidence includes the following:

- Birth Certificate.

- Permanent Resident Card or Alien Registration Receipt.

- Employment Authorization Document.

- Form I-94 or Form I-94A.

You do not need to show your physical card to apply for certain benefits. You can simply provide your SSN for benefits like:

- Housing.

- Health insurance.

- Food assistance. You should also know your physical card is not required

Need a standardized benefit verification letter? Get it online

as evidence for the Department of Motor Vehicles or Driver License (REAL ID). The only state that requires a physical card is Pennsylvania. For all other states, other acceptable evidence includes:

- W-2 forms.

- Form SSA-1099.

- Non-SSA-1099 forms.

- Pay stubs. Keeping your card at home reduces the risk of loss or theft – and helps you keep your information safe.

Social security when you are self-employed

Most people who pay into Social Security work for an employer. Their employer deducts Social Security taxes from their paycheck, matches that contribution, sends taxes to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and reports wages to Social Security. However, self-employed people must report their earnings and pay their Social Security taxes directly to the IRS. These taxes will help determine your eligibility for benefits later.

You’re self-employed if you operate a trade, business, or profession, either by yourself or as a partner. You report your earnings for Social Security purposes when you file your federal income tax return. If your net earnings are

$400 or more in a year, you must report your earnings on Schedule SE, in addition to the other tax forms you must file.
