National Apprenticeship Week 2014
A great success.. National Apprenticeship Week 2014 was hailed as the most successful yet, with over 1,000 events taking place right across the country and more than 20,000 employers pledging their commitment to creating a new Apprenticeship vacancy. Rupinder Lotay of the National Apprenticeship Service commented that the “Central Eastern Division were responsible for the highest percentage of events held, thank you on behalf of the National Apprenticeship Service for the contributions you made to the success of the week�. Central Beds Council Apprenticeship Roadshow Information Stand Central Bedfordshire Council hosted an information stand throughout the week to provide the public with information about Apprenticeships in Central Bedfordshire. Specialists in Health and Social Care, Housing and Childcare manned the stand to talk specifically about Apprenticeships and careers in these areas.
Monday 3 - Friday 7 March
The Mall, Luton Apprenticeship Event A range of employers and training providers attended the exhibition space at The Mall, Luton throughout Apprenticeship week. Those working on the stand reported huge interest from the public and are currently following up leads received. It is estimated that they conversed with in excess of 1,000 people during the week.
Monday 3 March
West Herts College Apprenticeship Bus The Apprenticeship Bus made appearances in Hemel Hempstead town centre and outside Watford Jobcentre Plus on Monday 3 March. Despite the bad weather plenty of people turned out to get advice and information on Apprenticeships.
Tuesday 4 March
Bedford Jobs Hub Engineering Speed Interviews Bedford Jobs Hub held an exciting speed interview event which focussed on Apprenticeships within all aspects of engineering. 6 employers from Bedford’s leading engineering firms interviewed visitors, giving them a real taste for a potential career in this fast paced and exciting sector.

CITB & Bedford College Construction Employability Workshop Picture far left 12 construction employers supported the CITB and Bedford College Construction Employability Workshop. Employers briefed students on Apprenticeship vacancies and work experience opportunities in the Bedford area. North Hertfordshire College Apprenticeship Conference Far left Key note speaker Ashleigh Porter- Exley sharing her own experiences. Bottom left Digging deeper into the role of a fellow apprentice by drawing their outline and filling it in with information about them. Bottom right Generating ideas for the Brathay Challenge.

Wednesday 5 March
March into Work, Jobcentre Plus Stevenage The Jobcentre Plus Stevenage March into Work event was opened by District Manager Teresa Chammings and Stephen McPartland, Member of Parliament for Stevenage pictured top left with Gareth Humphreys MBDA. The popular event attracted 1248 visitors who were able to receive information and advice on Apprenticeships from employers and training providers face to face.
Thursday 6 March
Herts Apprenticeship Ambassador Network Business Reception Skills and Enterprise Minister Matthew Hancock met with nearly 100 Hertsbased employers to help showcase Apprenticeships. The employers also heard from 2 Hertfordshire Apprenticeship Ambassadors, Alex and Leanne, who spoke about their positive experiences. Watford Jobcentre Plus National Apprenticeship Week Event Youth Connexions kindly supplied the premises for the Watford Jobcentre Plus event and were also on hand to provide advice and guidance to visitors. The event was well attended by many local providers including TCHC pictured top right, Hit training pictured bottom left, West Herts College pictured bottom right as well as the National Apprenticeship Service also pictured bottom left.

YETI Apprenticeship and Traineeship event The YETI group led by Jobcentre Plus organised a fantastic day of events held at Hertford Regional College, Broxbourne Campus including CV writing workshops, an Employment Carousel and Hertford Regional College department course showcases. Friday 7 March
Luton Borough Council Apprenticeship Event Around 400 visitors passed through the doors at the Apprenticeship event that was held at Venue Central in Leagrave Road. Over 40 employers and providers exhibited on the day with many offering ‘have a go’ activities such as bricklaying, nappy changing, first aid and cake decorating. Additionally stand holders also ran workshop sessions throughout the day on subjects such as presenting yourself at interview, using the Apprenticeship vacancies website and careers in the finance industry.
Friday 7 March
Take Your Career to New Heights! This exciting joint event run by NiTP, Bedford College and The Jobs Hub allowed visitors to meet employers, attend useful workshops and ‘earn’ the chance to go on the climbing wall. The Mayor of Bedford pictured top right opened the event and BodyFlight offered a free skydiving experience for the young people pictured bottom right who most impressed employers.
