Herd Health All Buzzard Hollow Ranch cattle are from Certified Free Brucellosis & Tuberculosis Free state. The mature cattle from BHR have been vaccinated with Bovi-Shield Gold FP5 VL5, Ivermectin and Vision 7. Welcome May 20th will mark the 23rd annual BHR DESIGNERS CLASSIC and in many respects the anticipation for this event far outweighs that of 22 years ago because of the progress made, not only in the BHR breeding program but also in the herds that have used BHR genetics through the world. ALL ROADS LEAD TO FLECKVIEH and GENETIC BLENDING have been the themes used over the years to emphasize what I do at Buzzard Hollow Ranch. Yes the cattle in the first Designers Classic carried the BHR prefix but these genetics in 2017 are multigenerational BHR based genetics that continue to meet the needs of the industry. The FLECKVIEH Cattle are a blend of South African, German and Austrian genetics that trace back to some of the original genetics that set the standards for the breed that now represents the next generation of genetics, that if we have done our job as breeders, should in all honesty be better than those of 100 years ago. It is called genetic improvement. I urge each of you to take the time to study pedigrees, of each lot, to see the alignment and blending of maternal and power which determines if the individuals are power or maternal in their make up and then what sires are available to create the next generation based upon your program and your market. Each animal has been designed to be used in different program with an ultimate goal in mind. As you study EPD’s, I want you to consider what happens when you put Fleckvieh in the pedigree and especially South African based Fleckvieh it just doesn’t work and the numbers do not reflect what the cattle realistically are nor how they will produce. The Fullblood, Fleckvieh and Simbrah EPD’s are not DNA enhanced either because when DNA is added “all” of the numbers go down. Study those pedigrees that have old Fullblood and Fleckvieh genetics in them and the numbers look better as these genetics are increased in the pedigree. The Simbrah, SimAngus and Purebred Simmental, with only a few exceptions are all Fleckvieh based and were developed here at BHR to raise awareness of the power of Fleckvieh genetics. The few that are not Fleckvieh based are bred to Fleckvieh bulls to infuse these genetics back into the pedigree to continue the goals established early on, for keeping these cattle Fleckvieh based. It is a privilege and an honor to have the guest consigners participating again this year, they have brought a great set of cattle that will surely be an asset to the sale. Look them up when you arrive and visit to see where their program is headed and how their cattle might fit your program. I would also like to announce the World Simmental FLECKVIEH Federation Congress will be held at the State Fair of Texas in 2018. This will be an International Event and will be a great opportunity to visit with Fleckvieh and Simbrah breeders from around the world. Selling choice of one of these maternal 1/2 sisters. The selection can be done at weaning or at yearling after all data is collected and there will be no cost to the buyer for leaving said animals at BHR until selection time. Carolyn is sired by HTP/SVF X106, a purebred Simmental bull that Randy Moody found for me for an experiment to try and change my SimAngus and Purebred Simmental EPD’s that were Fleckvieh based and as you can see it didn’t work as far as EPD’s are concerned but he did leave me with some very functional cattle that are still Fleckvieh based.
