Oakley, Cincinnati
10
Oakley, Cincinnati is a young profssional neighborhood about 16 minutes from Downtown. Since the mid 19th century when Oakley was founded after the influx of traffic and people resulted from its great connectivity source (Maison Rd), it has kept the character of its neighborhood that all can enjoy; from the residents, people passing through, to people shopping or going out to lunch around Oakley Square.

The sound and feelings that come from a business district is specific and hard to miss. Around Oakley Square there is a distinct difference between residential to the main strip where people window shop, go out for drinks or food, or hang out at Geier Esplanade 12
13
Walkability
Socio-economics
Oakley’s socio-economic features were very important to this course, and this semester long assignment. Cincinnati as a whole is percieved very differently than each neighborhood individually. Looking at Oakley as a community and a neighborhood that supports itself there are many things that were found through research and census tract data that was surprising.
Oakley is a very walkable and accessible neighborhood, residential areas begin almost directly outside of the main business district in Oakley Square.

Architechture
GIS
In the Cincinnati area there are historic and interesting styles or arrchitechture. With these two projects (Architecture Topography Map and the Residential Photorama of a neighborhood in Oakley), it becomes more clear as to the differences in types of building structures in the more historic and prominent parts of the neighborhood
16
GIS has become one of my various skills in my skill set, after creating various different maps for various different ecological and social connectors in Hamilton County, my proficiency keeps rising.

Understanding abstract painting as contours of landscape
Cont.
In this project our creative side was put to the test. Interpreting a painting and coming up with a three-dimensional model using contrast, colors, shapes, and background was the main objective. On page 19 you can see the outcome of Giacomo Balla’s “Speed and Landscape” painting (shown to the left).

Conclusion
After my first two semesters at DAAP with a major in Urban Planning, my skill level and focus is becoming more toned and prominent. Starting from the beginning; drawing solid black figure grounds to quickly learning how to add symbology to each of those buildings, my level of interest and passion for cities has blossomed greatly. The character and affect that each individual building, street, business or neighborhood has on the city as a whole is fascinating and is something interesting enough to pursue.
