conceptual yard
1 conceptual yard the proposal was to create a space based in a specific concept. From the concept exercise, and using only natural elements, these elements should be allocated in a 7.5x7.5 meters square, in a way it would synthesize the concept. the first step was to place a circular path, that would allow a walking pattern with no interruptions. The topography has been an important aspect of evaluation as it should guarantee greater physical effort for walkers in certain parts of the path proposed. Furthermore, the sand and pavement interchange has the same function of ensuring this effort. to stimulate exercising and make it as enjoyable as posible, project involves the use warm colours such as red and yellow, with the idea of providing the physical activity. Finally, the tree is used as focal point along the path and, with the reflecting pool, allows the user greater climatic comfort.

2 praia mansa cultural center the design consisted in a building idea created from a physical-chemical experiment. The chosen experiment was to put salt in a recipient full of water and oil. When salt is added to the recipient, it carries part of the oil from the surface to the bottom, and right after this moment, the oil goes back to the surface. This process generates different forms. During the experiment, a camera was shooting about eight frames per second. One of these frames was chosen to be the base idea of the building. using a software called Rhinoceros, the chosen form was modelled and became the initial model. From this model, some modifications were made to adapt the initial form to the building purpose and the design concept of 'dematerialisation'. as a result, a cultural center placed in Praia Mansa was created from a composition based on the initial form. Opened areas were that increased in number and size as they got higher were added to the project.

3 pocket park the purpose of this design is revitalizing an area of Fortaleza’s downtown with a public space that act attracting people around them, and a way of getting it done was increasing the pedestrian circulation.The chosen area, having inputs two both sides of the court, presents an advantage to estimate the passage from one side to another of this court, and this feature was availed during the design process. with two concepts: talk and walk, and based on Matt W. Moore’s work, a competitive process was established to work as reference to great part of the pocket park elements, guaranteeing an identity to them, and also bringing the artist identity to the place. finally, it was important to guarantee more security in the space, and a way of getting this is increasing the passage of pedestrian in the place, and cyclist too. To get this, the different levels are solved with ramps, and a bike lane was placed near the pocket park, acting as an incentive to the cyclists to go there.

4 toblerone house with the objective of improving modelling abilities in Archicad, a BIM platform software, an existent building was selected to be recreated in this software, allowing, later on, a comparison between the original house and the model made in Archicad. In this case, the Toblerone House, designed by Marcio Kogan, was the chosen one.

5 refuge house this was the final project of the first Architectural Design discipline. The Refuge House is a residence used on weekends by a middle age couple and their guests in a area far from downtown. Once established that people, while in this house, should be encouraged to interact between themselves, a reduction of all rooms, with the exception of the living room, proved to be a good alternative. to value the use of local materials and architectural elements, the design brought innovation without loosing its identity when compared to the buildings around it. Besides, the topography works as an important element, enabling different levels along the house structure without huge modifications in the terrain. at last, a greater climatic comfort was sought, so that the house would be ventilated and illuminated much of the day, avoiding the use of electrical equipment.

6 castro carreira square the final work for the Landscape Design discipline consisted in a reform for the Castro Carreira Square, used nowadays as a bus stop. Following the idea that a square must serve the population in other ways, the new design maintain parte of the bus stops, but also presents other functions. the compositive process used consists, basically, in joining the square to two near edifications, to make the passage to these buildings easier to the pedestrian. Then the square is divided in four sectors, and which one will have one of four different functions: talk, exercise, walk and contemplate. lastly, it was also made a vegetation design, to increase the number of plants in the place, and then the climatic comfort.

7 praia de iracema hostel the second discipline of Architectural Design had, as its objective, the design of a Hostel, placed near the beach called Praia de Iracema, in a undervalued area. The hostel should connect itself to the surrounding area in a way of working as an attraction point not only to the guests, but also to the population, through a restaurant and two stores. one of the most important points of the design is the demand for areas that work as courtyard, to possibility more interaction between the guests. All the comum areas work with the same objective. Another principle was the use of elements that remind the brazilian colonial architecture, since many constructions with this feature are located near the hostel, maintaining the placeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s identity. the use of exposed concrete and glass enabled a contemporary appearance without taking off this colonial feature.

8 extras there are drawings, that were made with pencil, nankin, color pen, color pencil and watercolor. There is also a experiment in the Architecture campus, based on Helio Oiticica’s work. It is based, specifically, on ‘Núcleo’, a series of works that uses wooden boards with warm colors in a suspended modular grid. at least, there’s the design using yellow ipê and adobe cobogós, as an experiment of new materials in construction.
