The Acts of the Apostles Chapter 3:1-26 Lame Man Healed 3.1. Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time for prayer, at three o'clock in the afternoon. At this time the Christian church was still going up to the Temple to pray and so at about 3.00 p.m. Peter and John made their way to join the public afternoon prayers. 3.2. And a man lame from birth was being carried up, who was placed at the temple gate called "the Beautiful Gate" every day so he could beg for money from those going into the temple courts. In doing so they entered by the Beautiful gate where a man who was born crippled in both legs was brought every day in order to make a living by begging. Although Jesus had gone into the Temple area on a number of occasions we are not told that He ever saw or met this man and yet he must have been brought there every day according to this verse. 3.3-4. When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple courts, he asked them for money. Peter looked directly at him (as did John) and said, "Look at us!" When this man saw Peter and John he immediately asked them for money. In response they both set their gaze upon him in Holy Ghost boldness with the firm intention of meeting this man in his need and commanded him to fix his eyes upon them to the exclusion of all that was going on about them. 3.5. So the lame man paid attention to them, expecting to receive something from them. The man gave them all his attention expecting, from their remarks, to receive something. 3.6. But Peter said, "I have no silver or gold, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, stand up and walk!" Peter first of all admits that he of himself has nothing to give the man but using the full Name of our Lord Jesus Christ he commands healing for the lame man. In this first recorded miracle performed by the disciples after the resurrection and Pentecost we are given the key to be used by all believers in exercising faith's authority by using the full title of the Lord for He is Lord over all things (Acts 10: 36). In the name of “Jesus” for He is the Saviour, Deliverer and Preserver of our souls. The name “Christ“ the Messiah the anointed one of God to whom all power and authority are given (Math. 28: 18; 1 Cor. 1: 24).
