// A F O C U S O N P E R F O R M A N C E We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: as the only component that simultaneously touches both the bike and the earth, wheels are the focal point of your cycling experience.
That’s why wheels are the focal point for Reynolds Cycling. In the relatively short history of carbon wheels, Reynolds has been at the forefront of technology, innovation and product leadership. From the moment we introduced the first all-carbon clincher using high modulus, uni-directional carbon fiber, Reynolds put the world on notice that our number one priority was advancing the science and art of carbon wheel technology to deliver the ultimate riding experience. And so it is today.
For 2011, Reynolds proudly introduces features and products that raise that lofty bar still higher. We’ve developed some of the world’s newest, most advanced fiber materials and resin systems, significantly improved laminate designs and innovated exciting new aerodynamic profiles for rims, hubs and spokes. And this year, we’re launching a paradigm shift in braking technology and performance across our entire line: CTg or Cryo Tg. While most manufacturers talk about their carbon rims in relation to heat, Reynolds emphasizes our proprietary, new laminate and proprietary molding technique designed to keep the rim cooler during heavy, prolonged braking. Look for a more in-depth discussion of CTg a little further down in this catalog. At the same time, we’ve intensified our commitment to international competition as the ultimate venue for proving and improving our technologies and products. The payoff: A gutsy Stage 14 win in the Tour de France by AG2R-La Mondiale, more than 50 top-of-podium places for the Fly V Australia team, and an impressive Tour de France debut for Footon-Servetto.

The RCS team is headed by the legendary composites engineer Paul Lew. As Director of Technology and Innovation, Paul is responsible for many of the designs, molds, tooling, production and techniques that are at the heart of the Reynolds carbon wheel product line. The result is a lightweight, super-efficient system that actually removes heat from the rim. Our wheels have been tested to operate up to 100 degrees cooler than other carbon rims. Cooler operation means virtually no chance for heat-induced rim failure. That means, whether you’re a heavy rider or a lightweight, you’ll enjoy glass-smooth braking, linear stopping forces and no pulsing. The new improved braking system will be applied to all carbon rims in the Reynolds line for 2011.

The raised arms and ear-to-ear grin of Christoph Riblon said it all, as he crossed the finish line for a solo victory on Stage 14 of the Tour de France. The Reynolds Thirty-Two he was riding climbs like a hot air balloon, and descends like a rocket on rails. The Forty-Six features a blistering top end, incomparable lateral stiffness, strength and light weight, while the super deep profile Sixty-Six is a versatile competitor that top professionals count on to pull them through every type of race situation: triathlons and time trials, fast crits, mountain stages–even windy circuit races. The Thirty-Two, Forty-Six, Sixty-Six all incorporate Reynolds’ high modulus carbon and refined resin system. That makes them among the lightest on the market, yet still tough enough to command respect on the cobbles of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. And for 2011, all three will include our patented Swirl Lip Generator for even better aerodynamics and crosswind stability.

These three beauties represent the first family of world-class, yet affordable, carbon wheel performance. From the moment we premiered the Attack, it was a winner. And It’s easy to see why. The Attack is a versatile, 32mm all-carbon clincher that can rise to any challenge: climbing, cornering, and cruising. The 46mm Assault not only has a leg up on the best alloy wheels, but it can out-sprint, out-corner and generally out-perform any deep profile carbon wheel for a fraction of the price. And the 66mm Strike has demonstrated it can beat the pants off just about any wheel at any price. But then, that’s the whole point. For 2011 we’ve improved the layup composition of all three wheels, and added our proprietary new CTg braking system to measurably improve stopping performance. All this for about what you’d pay for the finest alloy wheels.

At Reynolds, we pay close attention to how customers and sponsored pro athletes use our wheels for maximum benefit. One technique involves mixing profiles to optimize the performance of each design. That insight led to the introduction of two new combination wheelsets for 2011. The first is a Forty-Six matched to a Sixty-Six. This combo provides optimal aero performance front and rear, yet still delivers enhanced stability in cross winds and saves some precious grams, thanks to the slimmer front wheel profile.
The second set is based on our Assault/Strike platform: Same rim profiles and similar performance characteristics as the Forty-Six/Sixty-Six. But a slightly different carbon layup yields a little extra cost savings. Whether you’re a rouler, a puncher, or a sprinter, a mixed set of

Given all the marketing noise about surface textures and “negative” drag, one truth about disc wheels is often overlooked: hype doesn’t produce speed, the rider does. Reynolds has developed, tested, raced and refined the Element with a relentless attention to detail for one reason: to go very, very fast. The result is a full carbon disc that provides every rider with incomparably low rolling resistance, exceptional torsional stability, and a drag coefficient that is measurably lower than any other similar wheel. Now with Cryo Blue brake pads for better braking performance, it’s also the only disc that features an valve stem cup that accepts a standard pump head without an adaptor, so you won’t need a personal mechanic to top off

Gram for gram, mountain wheels take more punishment than any other component on the bike. That’s why Reynolds – for 2011 – has completely re-thought and re-engineered our mountain wheelsets from the ground, up. The all-new XC starts with a totally new unidirectional carbon layup with proprietary and improved resin systems. It yields a svelte 20 mm profile that weighs in at an astonishing 290g, yet is tough enough to withstand the kind of notorious punishment only a cross-country can dish out. Then we eliminated the tube to slash weight and add convenience and reliability. The result is a cross-country wheel that climbs like a dream, yet is stiffer, lighter and more responsive than anything in its category. Like the XC, the Reynolds AM is a tubeless mountain wheel designed for maximum performance under the harshest treatment. However the AM is a little stouter, and slightly heavier. But fear not: the AM loves to
