On 21 May 2021, BIDV presented VND25 billion (USD1.1 million) to the Ministry of Health for Covid-19 vaccine purchase.
This donation will directly support the government agencies to carry out the fight against the pandemic. This year, when the pandemic broke out in some provinces, BIDV immediately donated VND5 billion to support provinces including Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, and K Hospital. To date, the donation BIDV has given to the pandemic fight in 2020 and 2021 is VND70 billion (USD3 million).
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Long, Minister of Health acknowledged and spoke highly of the support by the banking industry Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hong, governor of the State Bank of Vietnam emphasized that the banking sector would strive to accompany the government in general and the Ministry of Health in particular in the fight against the pandemic.
Every year, the banking sector donates over VND1,000 billion (USD43.5 million) for social security programs nationwide. For the first 5 months of 2021 alone, the banking sector staff donated about VND200 billion (USD8.7 million) to support the fight against Covid-19.
In many other areas nationwide, BIDV branches have quickly called for donation from their employees to support local authorities and medical clinics in the combat against Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr. Long noted that the Ministry of Health has negotiated with vaccine suppliers with more than 100 million doses being committed for Vietnam. The Ministry has also registered with COVAX to purchase an additional 10 million doses of vaccine through the cost-sharing mechanism.
The support from the banking industry, particularly contribution by 4 state-owned commercial banks totaling VND100 billion (USD4.3 million), will be used to purchase vaccines. Vaccination is the key solution that could help life return to normal and contribute to the economic development.
