ERANDA SPA HISTORY The Eranda Herbal Spa was established in 2002 by Mrs Panchan and Mr Vincent Mathon. Set in a beautiful location at the north of Chaweng, in extensive landscaped tropical gardens, the spa initially consisted of a reception area, a natural rock steam room, a plunge pool, a large open air Sala, and a private Sala for the ultimate in luxury pampering by the 10 Eranda therapists. The highly qualified and professional therapists consistently exceed customer expectations and satisfaction and, by using natural products and traditional treatments, they help to protect and preserve the natural environment as much as possible. The spa’s amazing sea views and peaceful ambience have formed the foundations which have enabled the spa to grow, develop and improve over the years. With a growing reputation, and increasing customer demands, In 2003 the Eranda Herbal Spa was significantly expanded with the addition of four private Salas with Jacuzzis; improving the spa’s facilities, equipment and amenities. By now the number of therapists had risen to 18. Two more private Salas were added In 2004 and the number of resident therapists was up to 22. By 2007, there were another two more private Salas with Jacuzzis added to the facilities, and an extensive range of natural treatments, which made Eranda Samui’s first choice day spa for relaxation and rejuvenation. Today there are 24 therapists in the Eranda team on Samui. However, the Eranda Herbal Spa brand is about to expand into new areas of Thailand. The first new branch will be opened in another idyllic location with views over the Ping River in Chiang Rai. This new Eranda venture will maintain the exceptional standards and the original concept and style of the successful Eranda Herbal Spa on Koh Samui.

CHEF LUKE’S TUK TUK TOUR OF THAI ORGANIC MARKETS InterContinental Samui Baan Taling Ngam Resort’s Executive Chef To Lead Culinary Tour and Cooking Class for its Guests
(Asia, January 9, 2013) – Guests at InterContinental Samui Baan Taling Ngam Resort can now partake on a culinary tour with the resort’s Executive Chef Luke MacLeod, as he guides a personal tour of Koh Samui’s organic farms to cherry-pick the very best of fresh ingredients – on a Tuk Tuk! The half-day experience includes visits to some of the resort’s leading purveyors on a traditional Thai “Tuk Tuk” auto-rickshaw, followed by a specially prepared lunch by Chef Luke, using the freshly bought ingredients. Guests also have the opportunity to get behind the professional open-plan kitchen at the resort’s Amber restaurant for an exclusive cooking class with the Chef followed by a sumptuous lunch to sample the fresh wholesome dishes which is Chef Luke’s signature cooking style. The day starts with a consultation with the Chef over coffee to discuss
what the guests would like to see, and cook. To the surprise of many of the guests, the organic tour begins right on the resort’s doorstep where they are shown around the organic herb and aromatics garden by the resort’s resident Gardner, Khun Pravit. From here, guests board the customised Tuk Tuk and are taken to Kasem organic chicken farm, located just 250 metres from the resort. Guests are able to select the fresh free-range eggs, and poultry also can be bought at the farm, depending on the chosen recipes. Other stops on the tour include

No matter how skilled of a chef you are, you simply have to work with good ingredients, using fresh local produce which are well-balanced and full of taste” said Chef Luke. W RETREAT Koh Samui With its striking modern architecture, contemporary design features and picture perfect location, the W Retreat Samui does not adhere to the Samui norm and delivers an out-of-the-ordinary tropical resort experience that makes it easy for guests to never leave the property. One way it does this is through the many dining options, bars, lounges, and leisure areas spread across the resort. Even the reception area is a lounge with music and a DJ at night, couches, day beds, and sunken seating arranged in a huge circular water feature with spectacular views of the sea and Koh Phangan. One of the driving forces behind all of this is the Retreat’s Director of Culinary and Service, Robert Conte, and he’s excited to be on the job. He says, “As a retreat, we aren’t the typical city W Hotel; and while we still provide that first class W experience, it’s just a bit different.”A good example of this is their unique approach to service. It’s not stiff and formal with staff hovering around guests. “Instead,”Robert says, “We want all our people to be confident and outgoing and to treat the guests like we know them, like they’ve been there for weeks, so we give them the freedom to do more and applaud them taking the initiative.” He believes that if you get people moving together in one direction – great things will happen.
TRENDY SAMUI PHANGAN POCKET MAG
Originally from the United States, Robert’s spent the last ten years working all over Asia in places like Bangladesh, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Oman, Thailand and China. At the W Retreat, he’s devoted the last 6 months to creating and launching new menus for the Kitchen Table - eclectic but recognizable & playful yet classy - and Sip - smart food that fits the climate. He’s also going to expand their high-end Japanese restaurant, Namu, out onto the beach area and offer a different, but no less imaginative dining experience. Additionally, he recently launched a Saturday beach BBQ that offers traditional comfort BBQ food as well as several varieties of Sangria, drunken fruit, yakitori and BBQ flat bread pizzas. One menu he’s particularly excited about is for WooBar which shares the same space as the W Lounge. Robert says, “Especially in the evenings, our guests tend to dress well, so I wanted
WooBar food to be accessible, particularly for women, so I’ve stayed away from big food served on full-sized plates.” He calls it fingers-fork-andspoon contemporary, and the dishes are approachable, recognizable and easy to eat, and at the same time, meld with their existing style. Hey says to expect things like little buckets that contain popcorn shrimp, four varieties of cones, edible sticks, and a dessert that will simply blow your mind! For himself as a chef, Robert believes that there’s more to life than the kitchen and the more he experiences in life, the more creative energy he brings to his food and the people around him. He’s an avid photographer of people, food and landscapes, is both a poet and a creative writer, plays and writes music, and is passionate about working with and training dogs. After so many years of travel and experience, Robert feels that at the W Retreat Samui, he has landed in the right place at the perfect time.

ZAZEN BOUTIQUE RESORT & SPA As a boutique resort, Zazen most definitely lives up to its billing. Small and stylish, it has a distinctive design that blends different Asian themes with its lush gardens and picturesque beach. The resort is also home to the award-winning Zazen Restaurant, currently led by Chef Stephane Courtin, which serves a dual menu of French Mediterranean and Classic Thai. Originally from Montpelier, the capital of Languedoc, on the Mediterranean Sea, Chef Stephane spent his early career training and working in Michelin starred restaurants like Le Léonce and La Maison de la Lozère where he worked under some of Languedoc’s top chefs - Chef Jean-Claude Fabre and Chef Eric Cellier. Along with his strong classical French cooking foundation, Chef Stephane has a very Mediterranean style with a creative slant to incorporate local ingredients that’s been influenced by the renowned chefs he’s had the opportunity to work with and Languedoc itself. The South of France is divided by the Rhone River with Provence extending east towards Italy, and Languedoc reaching west towards Spain. So, with its Spanish and Italian influences, Languedoc cuisine relies heavily on local produce with garlic, tomatoes, truffles, olives, olive oil and herbs from the region’s garrigue shrubland like thyme, rosemary and sorrel forming the base of many dishes.
TRENDY SAMUI PHANGAN POCKET MAG
Chef Stephane says that the variety of food from the Languedoc is reflected in the Zazen menu, and more importantly, it focuses on product quality and freshness rather than modifying or improving the tastes. Overall, Mediterranean food is light, refreshing, fresh and healthy, and this is exactly what Stephane brings to Zazen. We asked Chef Stephane what makes the food in Languedoc special, and he explained that the region is very rich in terms of food culture and that many famous French dishes originated from Languedoc including Brandade de Morue, Bourride Setoise, Teilles, Fougasses, and Bisque Bouille. “The region features amazing products like cheese - Laguiole, Roquefort, Pelardon, and many other goat cheeses – and world renowned meat such as lamb from Lozere and beef from Aubrac,” he says, “Also, it is a wine region that is gaining importance in France’s wine portfolio with wineries like Faugere and Corbiere.” Another bright note for the gourmand is Zazen’s large underground wine cellar which has space for 900 bottles along with refrigerators that hold another 200 bottles of white wine and rosé. The extensive wine list covers the major regions of 17 different old and new world countries and includes wines previously not available or very rare in Thailand. The cellar has a glass ceiling that makes up the floor of the dining room’s lounge area, and guests can book small wine tastings in the cellar itself.

Welcome to Samui
Koh Samui was discovered by backpackers in the early 1970 and has been transformed into what is today, a new Caribbean of Asia. Gifted with rich variety of unspoiled beaches and inundated with unending rows of palms, it is acclaimed as an island paradise, capes and coves add beauty to the breathtaking sites where visitors can enjoy the generally quiet atmosphere. With the development of infrastructure, an increasing number of travelers were attracted to the island. Samui’s concrete ring road was finished in 1973 by the order of the government. Passing beautiful beaches around the island and connecting sub-district areas, the road facilitated tourism.
ď ‚EACHES F3 Chaweng
Chaweng is the longest and most famous one with very smooth sand and clear water. With plenty of restaurants, discotheques, bars and shops it is the main tourist center and nightlife area. Most hotels and resorts are located here.
F5 Lamai
Lamai is the second largest tourist center. The beach is a little bit more rough and the water is deeper. It’s an excellent location for swimming and has a well-known nightlife. Lamai can be discovered by walking as the area is not as large as Chaweng. Hinta Hinyai is at the southern end of Lamai and famous for its strangely shaped rock formations.
E2 Bophut
Bophut consists of the Fisherman’s Village and the beaches west of it. The beach at the village is small and not so suitable for swimming as there are many tour and diving boats going from here to other islands. At the village you will find many restaurants and shops as well as cafes and bars.
D2 Maenam
Maenam is located in the north of Samui with smooth sand and good swimming preferences. Maenam beach is perfect for families with small children as the water is shallow and there is no noise from nightlife or traffic

Choengmon are located in the North-East of Samui. These are the more quiet areas offering many private villas and houses as well as all levels of hotels and resorts. The Ang Thong islands rise from the sea as dramatic walls of rock soaring hundreds of metres high. Besides the many small coves and beautiful beaches, erosion has shaped some interesting formations. Particular features are Koh Mae (a beautiful beach) and Thale Nai (an emerald saltwater lake) both found on Koh Mae.

TEMPLES
F2 Wat Phra Yai And Big Buddha
This temple is the home of Koh Samui’s most famous landmark the Big Buddha. Most Visitors come to marvel at the sheer size and beauty of this remarkable statue at some point during their holiday. Visible from several kilometers away and even from the air when arriving on or leaving the island, the 12 meter tall golden image stands proud. At the base of the structure, several shops and restaurants cater to the needs of devotees and tourists alike. Wat Phra Yai is in the Northeast of Samui on route 4171 near the airport.
C7 The Leam Sor Chedi In the grounds of Wat Laem Sor, this ornately designed Chedi (Pagoda) sits at the rocky water’s edge. Covered in countless small yellow tiles, it appears golden when viewed from a short distance. It’s at the far South of the island off the 4170 road between Ban Tale and Ban Pang Ka. Follow the track with a sign that reads “Waikiki Bungalows”, and It’s at the end of that.

Buddha’s Footprint D6
There are actually four foot-prints here, superimposed one on another. Each one is artistically en-graved. They are housed in a modest shrine 150 steps up a steep hill, which also offers a great view across the plains to the mountains opposite, and to the sea over the tree tops. Buddha’s Footprint is not signposted but can be found by going up a concrete slope on the left, two kilometers West of the turnoff for the Butterfly Garden on the 4170 road.
Wat Sila Ngu E6
