Acoustic insulation standard

Law 447/95 Framework law concerning acoustic noise D.P.C.M. 5/12/1997. Determination of passive acoustic requirements of the buildings. This is the reference documentation regarding the Italian standards for the acoustic in the building. The buildings are divided in seven different typologies, for each typology are defined limits to be complied with.

R’w Index of soundproofing power between two different housing units. L’n,w Index of noise level of attics pounding D2mn,T,w Index of standardized acoustic insulation of façade.

Acoustic reduction of stamping noise. • Maximum limit admitted by law is Ln,w 63 dB. A non –insulated attic in reinforced cement has Ln,w of 85/86 Db. • Is not possible to apply the masses law as, in order to stay into the law limits, a very heavy attics of 800/1000 kg/m2 would have built. • The way to follow is that to structurally separate the attic floor in order to build a system of MASS-SPRING where the mass is represented by the floor screed + floor and the spring is represented by the insulating.

The floating floor: Suitable and tested solution to reduce the stamping noises. The standard UNI 12354-2 “Evaluation of buildings acoustic performance “starting from the performance of the products, shows the formula to calculate the noise reduction of stamping Dl on floating floors with cement- sand screed or calcium sulfate as well as the

graphic to obtain the same value knowing the dynamic rigidity value (Standard EN 29052-1) and the screed weight that is achieved on the panel (kg/sm).

the elastic deformation of an insulating subflooring material when is submitted to a dynamic force. This is very important to know the properties of a material to resist to vibrations passage. Such a value must not be too high (The standard UNI EN ISO 12354-2 defines the upper limit for the classification of a material such as elastic in 50 MN/m3) because too rigid a material conveys vibrations, but not too low because the material is too much crushed then conveys the noise as it were rigid.

Standard UNI EN 13163 Compressibility levels Compressibility: not to be confused with the compressive strength, the overload indicates that the insulating material can be subjected without changing its dynamic stiffness. The value must be determined in accordance with the standard UNI EN 12431. If the material is in the range of a too low compressibility, hardly will maintain over time the characteristics. The UNI EN 13163 standard classifies the materials according to the table on the right.

The System

Advantages

Ultra Dunnen is a system of heating and cooling (can be installed on the wall) newly developed, configured for restructuring with a few spaces available in terms of thickness, but can also be installed in new buildings. The thickness of only 14 mm of the film allows, used as a support for the laying of the pipe allows with the use of a preparation specific for selfleveling screed fast-curing, a plant in just 20mm excluding the coating. Thanks to this characteristic represents the best solution in renovation projects for installation over the existing flooring. The panel is also extremely easy to install because the adhesive backing allows a perfect fixing to the bottom, it is easy to cut without formation of ruptures and the particular conformation of the knuckles prevents the tube exit, once laid even in case of low temperatures that cause the 'stiffening of the pipe. The laying of the pipe can be made as modular step of 5 cm.

• Overall height only 20 mm • Maximum speed of installation thanks to the plate with male female • Perfect blocking of the pipe due to the special shape of the knuckles • low thermal inertia thanks to the reduced thickness of the screed

The Screed For the realization of the screed, we recommend the use of the product Knauf NE 425 Autolivellina. With this product for a total height of 20mm was obtained a compressive strength of 15N/mm2 (equal to 1517 ton/m2)

The system

Advantages

Trockenbau is a system of heating and cooling (can be mounted on the wall) newly developed, configured for restructuring where it requires a radiating system with low thickness and low weight. The insulating panels are provided with an aluminum foil with dual function of lowering the time of system setting-up and to distribute the heat evenly. The aluminum foil is already coupled to the panel and this allows a fast installation of the system. The greater the radiant power compared to traditional floor heating allows to keep more steps with consequent reduction and savings on the length of the tubes, lower shutter speed, lower load loss and less fluid to be heated. The laying of the pipe can take place in both axes with the possibility of laying diagonally cutting the upper sheet aluminum. The laying of the pipe can be made with modular step of 15 cm.

• Exceptional performance • Reduced installation time since the aluminum foil is already coupled with the panel • Short time to reach steady • Lightweight system

Layer of load distribution

In the case of dry media, for the layer of the load distribution we recommend the use of galvanized steel plates of about 1 mm thickness to be laid in double layer and out of phase, or substrate for plaster slab thickness 23 mm approx.

Technical notes Insulating panels

When we speak of insulating and relative resistance to compression, it continues to consider the equivalence: Density = better performance = better quality In the following we will find a justification of how it is actually a design error, in particular in applications in which are especially required performance mechanical; prescribe an insulating material only on the basis of the density, WHEN REALITY 'AND' THE RESISTANCE TO COMPRESSION, THE PROPERTY 'CRITICAL WHICH REFER. In the specific case of civil building, as will be evident, taking into account the live loads and dead loads, the value of 200 to 300 kg / sqm. Is normally taken as accidental overload max provided for the sizing of the floor. On the insulating material, then placed under "background + floor" are also faced with their own weights which we can estimate (in more burdensome hypotheses: the background is lightened sp. 5 cm. + Marble 3 cm.) In additional 200 kg/sqm. Carry out the verification with such uniformly distributed loads (500 kg/sq.m.) These stresses on the insulation material, very modest (0.05 kg/sq cm.) By far below the allowable value of 0.4 to 0.6 average kg/cm². COMPRESSION STRENGTH TO 10% OF CRUSHING This feature sets, by convention, the compressive strength corresponding to the stress breakage of the material (Rupture of cells) or the stress that causes a deformation of the initial thickness of the product of 10%. The destruction or tearing of the cells, involving a dangerous degradation of the mechanical properties and an increase water absorption of the material. COMPRESSION STRENGTH FOR ELIGIBLE LOADS OF LONG-TERM DEFORMATION WITH MAXIMUM OF 2%. This characteristic defined by ISO 7850, is Maximum allowable stress for loads exercise of an insulating material which, by convention, assumes corresponding to loads applied continuously for twenty years, with deformation of the thickness less than 2%. For insulating materials, this feature is a guarantee for the exercise of the work with deformations insignificant product (for 50 mm. Thick it has a deformation of less than 1 mm.) Ed expresses the value at which relate to the design and verification of the overlying floor.

Insulating panels

Laying insulation in floor heating The sheets of insulation are laid on the floor to dry, well put together and with staggered joints. If an additional mechanical fixing plates shaped (tongued) keeping it is accentuated. The insulating panels are laid dry directly on the slab. Is then installed the heating system. To complete the laying, strips of foam polyethylene will be inserted along the perimeter of the floor in contact with the walls and the vertical frames before performing the overlying slab (Figure 2.14). In the case of heated floors and making a screed properly dimensioned. E 'required the presence of a sheet of polyethylene against the absorption water, between the insulation and the screed. In some systems Pexatherm, said sheet is already present as an integral part of the panel. Installation of insulation in floors made of slabs in direct contact with the ground Installation of ventilated crawl space: they land directly on the slab separation with the hornet's nest made of gravel well compacted. It provides for the laying of a polyethylene film as a water barrier, it is recommended place it on top of the insulation plates. In the case of existing buildings is recommended checking the condition of the substrate to assess the necessity or otherwise of interventions remediation prior to application. Sometimes it is necessary to prepare the mechanical attachment of the insulation panel with plastic plugs with head enlarged (40 - 50 mm). Installation of the thermal insulation of floors subject to heavy loads In the presence of high loads the insulating panels with high mechanical resistance are laid dry on the structure before making reinforced screed above suitable size.

Technical notes

Installation of insulation

The laying of the slabs of polystyrene, must take place on a smooth surface (Screed), absent from electrical conduits or plumbing, in clearly necessary to arrive outside of the quantum, it is recommendedtheir position along the perimeter and in parallel to the local the walls, trying to create groups of ducts and pipes (Non-overlapping) well secured to the floor by means of clamps. Available height permitting, electrical and hydraulic lines can be covered by means of shaved. The drawing will take place starting from the perimeter walls and moving toward the walls opposite. Before installing the panels, the floor must be cleaned by rubble, remains of mortar and thoroughly fucked, so that panels can be laid flat. In the case where the surface of the insulation was not the proper pose (presence of holes), shave dry sand to create a smooth surface support; any protrusions, must be reduced in order to avoid the non-proper support of the insulating sheets, giving attention to the corners that are created between wall and floor. A verification of this, walking above the insulation, should not occur undulations warning of a pose is not ideal, which could result in failure the screed or cracks, due to a thickness of screed not uniform. The insulation is to be complete by the presence of the tape perimeter, arranged as a socket and that it follows the walls of and any relevant local structures in contact with the substrate (eg pillars, steps, etc..). The perimeter tape put in place before the laying of the insulation, will be the same level as this. The band applied to the transparent tape must overcome the isolation eleiminare for a thermal bridge between the screed and the floor, avoiding that the mortar can come into contact with this. Its presence ensures the absorption of any expansion of the screed up to 5 mm. and the creation of acoustic bridges. Therefore are absent points of contact between the concrete slab and another. The fixing of the same can be done with paper clips or mechanical system half of silicone products that allow their adherence to the wall. Therefore the heated masses, must be enclosed in perimeter edged with ribbon object. Made of PE with closed cell structure, with excellent thermal or sound insulation as well as elastic absorption.

Laying

The choice of the type of pipe, if spiral or in series, in sometimes influenced by the configuration of the premises, may be of importance remarkable in respect of an equitable distribution of the heat flow. The laying spiral, dall'affiancamento consists of a tube-way and one return, therefore the temperature of the floor will be constantly distributed. In the distribution piping in series, we have instead a different heat distribution, obtaining a different surface temperature between the beginning and the end of the series. If the system is tested with air (not provided by the UNI EN 1264-4), in cases where the installation takes place in winter, and you do not want to load the system with glycol (antifreeze), you should follow some precautions. The first is to remember that the acceptance test carried out with air pressure corresponds to a 4 times higher than a commissioning pressure with water; therefore a test with air at 3 bar corresponds a test with water at 12 bar therefore resulting in a possible loss to connectors or to the collector. This effect is therefore not attributable to the components, but at a excess pressure. Once the test is complete, proceed with the coating of the pipes, after inspection that there are no leaks, by visual examination. The plant will remain under pressure until the screed, over the implant, not is completely solidified. It 'a good idea to release to the customer, at this stage, a statement testing occurred and successful and certifying the tests, as well as countersigned by the same; is often found that for access of other persons on site, are found to damage piping, with associated losses charged to the plumbers.

Introduction

The sizing of a radiant panel system, it is essential to achieve a system that does not involve a risk of overheating or undersizing floor. With the data below we seek to clarify a topic that submitted in time, a number of questions, confirming the validity of the type plant. The plant components PEXATHERM ®, are manufactured to meet the requirements by size according to the European Standards EN 1264. The sizing offers the possibility to adapt each circuit, to the needs of the local concerned. The EN 1264, put in first place the elimination of financial problems physiologic caused by overheating in the floor by keeping within 28 ÷ 29 °C, confirming that together while maintaining the temperature of power, within certain limits, you get also a comfort system, without equal. The containing of the feed temperature, also allows to reduce the thermal inertia of the system. Considering the radiant surface species, we can deduce a negligible temperature power. Therefore, the panel system can be combined with heat created by means of solar panels, heat recovery, heat pumps, condensing boilers and district heating.

Low temperature supply

The low temperature is always, also, managed with appropriate adjustments and hydraulics, which should also be evaluated and sized

Technical notes Notes on screeds

The screed

Also called screed is a constructive element, usually thickness from 1 to 8 cm, made with a mixture of sand and cement with the addition of fluidifying additives. Can be used directly as a walking surface or be covered with flooring of all types (ceramic, stone, resilient, wood, etc..). The screed must ensure the laying, in the times desired, the type of coating provided and ensure the durability of the various operating conditions (inside or outside, in floor to civil, commercial or industrial, etc.).. It must therefore ensure, together with the other elements and layers which serve as the support, the functionality of the flooring system and collaborate to perform the functions designed. Regardless of the type of coating that is to receive, to be suitable for installation of a floor, the screed must present flat, smooth, clean, free of cracks, compact, seasoned, dimensionally stable and mechanically strong. In addition, the moisture content must conform to the expected values for the installation of floor moisture sensitive and homogeneous throughout its thickness. For screeds Cement based are considered acceptable humidity values of less than 2% in in which case it should pose a wooden floor, of 2.53% in the case in which should lay PVC, rubber or linoleum. The durability of a pavement is therefore influenced by the quality of the topping, but often designers and companies overlook some basic rules for the optimal preparation of the screed hardened depend on those of the product used for packaging, as well as on the method of preparation and application of the dough.

PRICE LIST 2012

Technical notes Notes on screeds

The choice of the product to be used should take into consideration, in addition the purchase price, the intended use, the site conditions (Inside or outside, thickness required etc..), The type of floor to lay and the waiting time for the installation. Typically in shipyard you have over fairly long periods but not sufficient to allow the installer to observe the minimum time required for seasoning of cement screeds: 7-10 days per centimeter thick at a temperature of about 20 째 C. Often is then performed the laying of ceramic tiles only a few days after the completion the substrate. The risk is that possible cracks in the screed, caused by the inevitable shrinkage of the mortar.

Screeds

The self-leveling screeds liquids, are of the type anhydride based or based cement, ready-mixed dry. The manufacturers of self-leveling floors anhydride based, employ different anhydrides and additives as well as different manufacturing processes. The mechanical characteristics guaranteed by the manufacturers appear to be excellent. The screeds concrete may be exposed to temperatures durable than 60 째 C, for some types self-leveling, it is merely the outlet temperature 50 째 C. Because of the peculiarity of the product not in all cases it may adopt. The self-leveling liquids, can normally be created with less thickness. The SIA 251 establishes the minimum thickness depending on the load Mobile admitted (> 2 kN/m2oppure> 4 kN/m2) and according to the different properties materials for load category. For screeds are prescribed thicknesses of execution of 30 50 mm. The minimum coverage pipe is 30mm. And 'advisable to fractionate the screed at openings in the walls or any projections, by inserting a separator in the concrete during the implementation or providing to dissect the screed curing happened. The maximum area possible without splitting is similar to conventional screeds made of sand and cement, which is about 40 square meters. We recommend placing a mesh in the screed, interrupting the same height of the expansion joints, which will be positioned at the thresholds of the gates. Particular attention should be paid to laying insulation in particular is prevent the screed may drip between the insulating layer and the floor, as well as between the wall perimeter and the panel itself. In the case of systems with smooth panel, you will have to draw a barrier PE above the insulation, in order to avoid that the product can, by capillarity, penetrate between a and another panel.

Assumptions and floor preparation

The details to be taken into account in the preparation of a floor system, are several and many, our work is also to keep you informed in order to avoid malfunctions or damage to the works. The screed heat storage system, plays a key role in the determination of the yield of the system in question. It must be of at least 30 mm thick measured from the upper end of the polyethylene pipe, as determined by the standard EN 1264. For any considerable loads (industrial buildings), the resistance values will be higher, increasing the thickness of the slab, inserting wire mesh or fibers. If you do not increase the thickness of the slab, requires an inert granulometric of smaller diameter, increasing the dose of cement in the dough, however, creating a higher shrinkage of the floor (in phase drying) with the risk of cracks, fissures, grinds. For an easy and smooth installation of the screed, concrete must have a good fluidity, which can be achieved with the addition of a fluidizing product with doses as labeled on the cans. The additive PEXAFLUID N200, to be included in the mixture, decreases the percentage of water needed to the dough and consequently Also the air bubbles arising, by increasing the fluidity, the characteristics technical and mechanical. And 'critical particle size of aggregates, as these can determine a concrete crumbly. An optimum particle size allows a firm dough high resistance and thermal conductivity. The compactness that is to be achieved can be realized with aggregates of excellent quality, washed and mixed.

Assumptions and floor preparation

To obtain a screed with excellent mechanical characteristics and transmission, compactness, elasticity, strength, uniformity in the coating of the pipe, anticipate the addition of the additive fluidifying, as an integral part of the plant floor heating, conforming to ASIM C-494/80 and to UNI 8145. The use of the additive leads to savings in water up to 60%, this allows the reduction of the presence of porosity due to drying of the water and the increase its density as well as thermal conductivity. It 'guaranteed increase workability and smoothness. The substrate that covers the pipes, can be reinforced by the presence of mesh, and the same in terms of section and type is recommended or forced by static calculations and the use of the area being examined. The quantification of the loads that are going to invest the surface is given fundamental to determine the necessity of the presence of a possible network welded, another important factor is the elasticity that we want to give the structure, according to the loads or the type of the structure enclosing the plant. The metal reinforcement should not have any contact with the polyethylene pipe, to avoid damage. The same, in correspondence of the expansion joints, will be interrupted, as spaced from the outer walls. The network is able to contain the extent of cracks, preventing the formation of steps (wind effect) but did not avoid in an absolute sense. The screed must be performed in one and the same cast without interruption if not with the execution of an escape of expansion and recovery. For the preparation of the substrate, care must be taken to close all openings type doors, windows, to prevent the concrete from drying out too quickly, danger of cracking, cracks, excessive withdrawals, you should cover it with a nylon sheet to avoid exposure to drafts which cause a drying not regular, this for the first 3 to 5 days. The environment should be at least 5 ° C. After 7 to 10 days you can do at the plant energizing at a temperature between 20 ÷ 25 ° C and maintaining this scheme for 3 ÷ 4 days. Only when it went through a period of not less than 25 to 28 days, provided that the relative humidity of the screed is within the limits, it will continue with the laying of the flooring.

Expansion joints

In a screed for underfloor heating is important the presence of joints expansion and technical joints, these must be prepared at the level of all thresholds, in all the premises in the shape of "L" or bottleneck, in the premises with certain dimensions where the perimeter insulation is not enough to absorb the expansion of the floor. The expansion has obviously repercussion also on the floor, creating serious problems if not taken into account, but here is an example of thermal expansion linear in mm / m ° C relating to various types of flooring: baked 0,005 ceramic 0,008 wooden stag. 0,55 screed norm. 0,016 + add screed. 0,012 Example: a screed with additive PEXAFLUID N200 (D = 0.012), with a length equal to 5.0 m, with a variation of temperature (Dt) of 20 °C, will have a total thermal expansion of K: k = L x D x Dt K = 5,000 mm. x 20 °C x 0.012 mm / m °C = 1.2 mm. They will be provided for all surfaces with amplitude exceeding 40 ÷ 50 mt. square, having a ratio between the lengths of the various sides of 1: 2. The expansion joints cannot cross a circuit, but only pipingconnection / link between various nuts or connecting lines. Same will expand on to including paving (tile) and will be filled with resilient material, so basically, you have to create a separation of the various elements construction, for their entire cross section, including overcoating.

The joints must be created above the separation joints of structures, with equal length and width, the section in question cannot be crossed by the heating pipes, in the case in which the joints intersect with the pipes, freedom of movement of the tube must be ensured by means of special measures such sheaths have a minimum length of 30 cm. with a diameter of 25 mm. The portion comprised within the expansion joints must have a surface not greater than 40 square meters., as imposed by the DIN 18560. Normally the conclusion of the positioning of these joints, is performed by the person who performed the static calculations of the structure. In fact, at this stage will be imposed both expansion joints to the technical ones. The latter, created with simple cutting of trowel to deep of about 1/3 the thickness of the slab in fresh mortar. The purpose of the presence of these cuts is to absorb the contractions and expansions of the floor-level Local and type uncontrollable. The amplitude of the shear areas of trowel must not exceed 20 á 25 sqm., always starting at 90 ° to the wall Departure and if possible by edges of load-bearing walls. It will be care of the floor layer, in function of the type of flooring, consider if these cuts technicians will be reported to the surface or just since under the tile, contrary to the expansion joints which are instead evident above the flooring.

The joints

Each of laying methods previously described, both in mortar that at glue, requires, at run time, the observance of the joints. When we speak of "joints"in the field of installation must make the following distinction: - "Laying joints", are the zones of junction between the tiles and are generally better known with the term "drain"; - "Joints deformation or expansion", constitute the system outages floor, designed to allow the expansions and contractions of the materials, as well as the relative sliding of the various layers that make up the element constructive.

Expansion joints

The joints of deformation or expansion have the function of interrupting the continuity the coated surface to allow and compensate for dimensional variations and deformations affecting the multilayer system consisting oftiles, from the binder and from the substrate. These joints must be the bedding layer and the tiles. These joints can be divided into: - Construction joints: are realized when the construction is to bands or panels, or at the points where the jet is interrupted for end of job. - Structural joints: they correspond to breaks in the continuity of the structure carrier. Separating generally different types of load bearing elements as characterized from tensions and retreats different or fractionate continuous surfaces of a single type bearing, absorbing a new order and expansions. These joints must be observed during installation, recovered and continued up to the top the work of laying, for length and width. Desolidarization-joints and peripheral joints: have the function of desolidarization the coating from the fixed elements of the structure such as columns, walls, skirting, to allow the differential movement of the different structures in all the senses and to prevent thermal and acoustic bridges. - Expansion joints or withdrawal or control: affect the bedding layer or footer and the ceramic coating. Be carried out in the presence large areas, sharing into smaller areas. The joints have the function of absorb dimensional changes and deformations or mechanical thermo-hygrometer or the underlying layers of the tiles, to counter the occurrence of hazardous voltages. General information on the location and the width of the joints: The sealing of expansion joints During the laying operations, at the joints of deformation not must be used neither mortar nor adhesives. The deformability is achieved by placing strips or strips of soft material not perishable, such as for example polystyrene or polyurethane foam, for the thickness the bedding layer, while in the layer of tiles, the coupling must be filled with a suitable elastic sealant which must adhere perfectly to the edge of the tiles themselves.

The laying joints

The laying joints or joints, ie the spaces left between one tile and another, can be achieved in two ways: - With the "tight joint" or "joint together", the tiles are put together with one another without discontinuity, in order to form a surface area almost monolithic, highly appreciated by the Italian taste, but it creates often not small problems of lifting the ceramic elements, compromising the work of laying. Is quicker and therefore cheaper than the joint installation opened. Currently in most of the codes of practice of different countries, this type of installation is now discouraged or even not allowed. - With the "open connection", one is left between the tiles space depending on the size and type of material to be lay and the aesthetic effect you want to achieve. It is advisable to set to "open joint" because the joints pose play an important role: they serve to absorb the deformations and the differential movements of the entire system installed and to compensate for the dimensional tolerances of the tiles. It also enables better control of the filling the joints. Indications of maximum amplitude of the joints according to tiles size.

The sealing of joints Tile size Tile size Joint width in mm 2รท3 Up to 10 x 10 cm Up to 20 x 20 cm 3รท5 In addition to 20 x 20 cm 5 รท 10

For the sealing of the laying joints are commercially different materials, from use once the adhesive has hardened or dried. Are also available colored grouts can be coordinated with the tiles. The drafting of the stucco is made with a special rubber spatula, so as to obtain a homogeneous filling and adjust the joints. The first cleaning should be performed when the grout is become opaque with a damp sponge, properly washed in water clean. Deep cleaning is carried out with products that are compatible with the characteristics is the escape of the tile.

Maturation

Ageing is one of the most important requirements for a cement and is to be checked before installation, because on it depends the stability of its size (as noted above, a screed not adequately developed is to undergo shrinkage). It is therefore important to respect the times of maturation: in general, we consider take a week per centimeter of thickness in good weather or at least 28 days and in any case there must be a residual moisture of approximately (Equilibrium moisture between that of air and that of the cement products) <3% for cementitious screeds and <0.5% for anhydrite. Are commercially available, however, the glue that helps to make the installation of the first 28 days. In cementitious withdrawal is faster in the first few weeks causing a shortening of the screed of 1 mm / linear meter. However, there are today on the market also preparations which allow the realization of "rapid screeds." It is dosed mixtures, prepared directly on site prior to application, mixing them with water in proportions given by the manufacturer. If you do not comply with the aging time you create tensions if they exceed the resistance of the individual layers lead to the lifting of the tiles. These stresses increase since the tiles, in particular if porous, tend to expand due to water absorption (moisture and washes). To overcome this drawback should be made for perimeter joints and fractionation (see chap. 4) and to avoid creating excessive tension the screed can be released from the supporting structure. You get so 'the screed "desolidized" separate from the floor using a spreadsheet of polyethylene which also prevents any residual moisture of the slab goes back through the slab. Screeds "acoustically separated or floating," because it is missing adhesion with the support, they are free to undergo deformation caused by their withdrawal.

Technical notes Notes on screeds

The screed may be subject to the following: 1. Concave deformities: affect the screed before laying the tiles. The concrete undergoes drying surface which results in a very rapid fastest withdrawal of the upper part. It follows that the screed is raised at the sides, under which it will create voids which, when subjected to loads, they break resulting in cracking and / or detachment of the tiles may already cutlery. 2. Convex deformation: affect the screed after tiling The tendency to withdraw the screed is hampered by tiles that, if anything, tend to dilate. The buckle creates cracks between the tiles if well bonded do not come off. Subjected to loads in the screed tends to break in the middle. With a floor desolidarizzato this phenomenon is well known: the screed down the sides and tends to crack in the center and the baseboard is spaced and seems to rise.

The contractions

A subdivision of the surface of the grout by means of so-called false joints it is essential to capture the inevitable effects of withdrawal. (0.5 - 1.0 mm. / M.). In fact the retrenchment in concrete for evaporation of water, creates a withdrawal of the material itself. You should pay particular attention to the deformations possible during the drying time. Due to the high dehumidification the surface and the substrate tends to arch to the ears). Possible countermeasures are: humidify or cover with cloth surface of the slab just thrown. Once the screed has completely dried, the warp regress as well as any deformation. This behavior the screed must be absolutely taken into account. If it does not is considered, it will caused damage. The first damage typically occurs when the baseboard / skirting board is laid too soon. For this reason, the warp natural upward of the grout is prevented, and this leads to its fragmentation (sinking). When the warp caused by shrinking retiring, the mortar broken is pressed into the insulation. Is thus caused durable damage. The second damage typically occurs when hard flooring, tiles, tiles, etc.., are glued too early or are placed in fresh mortar. In this case only the mortar shrinks and you experience resistance and related deformations. The pattern of damage is similar to that shown in Figure 5-3. The damage is irreversible and of a different size depending on the quality of mortar or glue used .The third typical damage occurs when the installation of baseboard / skirting is too soon, and when the grout has reached, for natural effect of withdrawal, his warp maximum. When the grout will move to the position final, that is after the regress warp, will glimpse is a gap between the floor and skirting / skirting boards The withdrawal process can be reduced by: - Using aggregates or aggregates characterized by a granular composition mixed, so as to minimize the gaps between the granules to be filled with cement, thereby reducing withdrawals, reducing the cement / aggregate to permitted levels in function of the required mechanical characteristics; - Reducing the water / cement ratio. You can use thinners that allow the workability with less water; - Taking care of the seasoning into the wet screed within the first days By spreading above a sheet of polyethylene because the water does not evaporate too fast; - Carefully compacting the bedding layer so as to out the air to fill the voids between the grains of the mortar and protecting from heat to prevent the withdrawal surface; - Using a reinforcing mesh which, in addition to distributing the loads, allowing along its links to download cracks withdrawal, contrasting the formation of cracks marked; - Creating the joints so as to obtain a cracking preordained and not disordered, as the shortenings depart from the joints. These must be carried out while the mortar is spread, or at most within 48 hours later, otherwise the withdrawal would already begun.

Compactness

Compactness is another fundamental requirement that a slab is considered suitable for receiving a ceramic coating. Empirical evidence to verify it is in 'affect the screed with a nail: you do not have to form deep scratches or excessive dust. If the background is composed of anhydrite, once removed the powder, rubbing with the hand, must not chalk leaving traces of debris.

Leveling

And 'necessary that the substrate is planar and smooth as possible, no dips or bumps, otherwise its irregularities could glimpse into the final coat and be dangerous as well as unsightly for those who trample. This is particularly crucial for the laying with adhesives. If you choose instead of laying with cement mortar is easier to make adjust the background, since the mortar itself can compensate for any disparity.

Cracks

If you are in the presence of cracks is necessary to distinguish between cracks only superficial, resulting from normal shrinkage of cement mix and real cracks, caused by uneven shrinkage. While in the first case can be neglected, in the second action is needed, screed mature, spreading V- then fill them with suitable substances. The presence of this phenomenon is however a malfunction so it is a good idea to go back to the cause, able to proceed in the best way to its resolution.

TYPES OF SUPPORT STRUCTURES FOR FLOORS

Concrete Structure A) Structure in cast concrete (slab) To cast concrete structure means the reinforced concrete pavement or in mixed brick-cement (composed of concrete beams reinforced concrete with interposed blocks of brick, covered with a hood concrete) or still in prefabricated elements, made with a jet of concrete and with a floor that can be used directly for the laying of pavement. B) Concrete flooring incorporated It is a concrete screed whose thickness, usually less than 35 mm, does not allow the desolidarisation by the supporting structure and in some cases constitutes the finishing of the laying surface of a concrete structure of jet, with the function of leveling and reduce their surface irregularities. Concrete flooring desolidarized and floating screed. It is a concrete slab whose minimum thickness of 40 mm which allows desolidarisation from the supporting structure, through the use of a horizontal separating layer (example a sheet of polyethylene) and a layer compressible along the perimeter of the walls emerging ( Example polystyrene foam). These devices allow to eliminate or at least reduce the influence of structural movements on the floor. The screeds must be made with uniform thickness and composition and not can incorporate facilities. Support desolidarizzed, once you reach the necessary maturity (1 week for each cm. of thickness in good weather), will significantly reduce the risk of separation of the flooring. For floating screed means a concrete slab desolidarized resting on an insulating layer with a consistency in direct relation to the load expected, taking into account the compressibility of the insulating layer below. Screed heating This is generally a floating concrete slab resting on of an insulating layer, which is heated by a heat source incorporated or below.

THE BEHAVIOUR OF FUNCTIONAL LAYERS The superposition of layers of different materials can give rise to phenomena relative sliding determined by their different dilatometric behavior by the modulus of elasticity and specific by irreversible withdrawal movements affected the screed. These agentstend to deactivate the conditions of adhesion between the layers and particular, in the course of discussion, we will refer accession between tile and screed, as it is of such a plan that occur preferentially the gaps. Dilatometric behavior The materials undergo phenomena of expansion or shrinkage function the increase or decrease of their temperature. The tensions that can be created between the different layers are all the more dangerous, for the purposes of impairment of the work of installation, the greater dilatometric and the disagreement as quickly as you experience the phenomena in temperature. Even changes in humidity affect the dimensional variations material causing withdrawal in situations of drying and dilation in case they are wet. The range of motion consequential loss is linked to the absorption capacity of the different materials. Withdrawal of the slab All compounds based on hydraulic binders such as mortar, concrete and other cementitious movements are irreversible withdrawal starting at taking a long time and continue with the progressive hardening, while reducing with time their importance. This phenomenon has an intensity very variable because of it act a large number of factors and is therefore difficult a priori know its value. It generally increases with the ratio cement / aggregates and with the increase of water / cement ratio. It is also influenced by the particle size distribution of aggregates. It should be also remember that the withdrawal can last for a long time. The laying of the material carried on a subfloor not sufficiently mature almost always affect the final result. Modulus of elasticity The modulus of elasticity of a material is an important indicator of its behavior under applied loads. The materials are characterized by the lowest values of the modulus of elasticity, in equal size, suffer more easily deformations due to stress caused by vibration or heavy loads. In the design phase it is important to take account of this aspect because the tiles are extremely rigid and extremely sturdy.

UNI EN 1264-4 Types of supporting layers Between the layers heating, there are the following types (see EN 1264-1:1997, 3.11): - Type A - Works with pipes embedded in the backing layer; - Type B - System with pipes under the support layer; - Type C - Plants drowned in a leveling layer, where the layer adheres to a bilayer separation. The thickness of the leveling layer must be at least 20 mm greater than the diameter of the heating elements. The adherent layer must have a thickness of not less than 45 mm. The thickness of the layer is calculated on the basis of the relevant standard, which takes into account the load capacity and the class of flexural strength. Until there is a standard European, national standards should be used. The nominal thickness above the heating pipes (height of coverage) must be, for reasons construction, at least three times greater than the maximum size of the grains of the aggregate material and in any case at least 30 mm. For the support layer in asphalt, this thickness salt to at least 15 mm. For layers of type A, the thickness of which is less than 0.1 m, it is necessary to add the outer diameter of the tube the thickness calculated. The maximum temperature surrounding the heating elements in the backing layer should not be greater than 55 째 C. For supporting layers other than concrete, this value can be reduced, example at 45 째 C for supporting layers of asphalt and the maximum temperature stated by the manufacturer of anhydrous supporting layers. Leveling layer When using structures of floor heating type C as defined in 4.2.8.1, the layer leveling must consist of a support layer of concrete having a compressive strength of 20 N / mm 2 after 28 days. for expected and conditioned in order to meet the requirements of the coating for floors. Given the minimum coverage of the heating elements, the leveling layer of type C has a tendency to forming of cracks due to the effect of narrowing. However, generally, this does not compromise their efficiency. All florescences must be removed. Joints For supporting layers heating suitable for the application of coatings stone or ceramic, the surfaces of the joints must not be more than 40 m 2 with a maximum length of 8 m. In case of rectangular rooms, the joint surfaces can overcome these dimensions, with a ratio maximum length of 2 to 1. If in the supporting layers heating places are induced contraction joints, these must be cut to a depth not greater than a third of the thickness of the layer, taking into account the location of the pipes in a plant of type A and must be sealed after the starting of the heating. The installer of the heating system must be provided with a map indicating the position of the joints, included in the specification. In the case of supporting layers heating of type A and C, the joints subjected to stress and perimeter joints must only be traversed by the connecting pipes and only at a level. In this case, the connecting tubes must be covered by a flexible hose of isolation of the length of about 0.3 m. Note To the extent possible, the laying of the joints of adjustment should start from the corners, for example on the plaster and open fires, namely in points where there has been the expansion or shrinkage of the surface of the backing layer. In the jambs and door sills are installed contraction joints or settling. The layers of support and anhydrous cement used as leveling layers must be suitable.
