Billingham lnternational Folklore festival in partnership with CI0FF UK and Bede College have successfully launched the Project called 'The World of Cultural Diversity" with a Pilot Presentation from Hungary "European Express: England - Hungary". The aim of the Project is to introduce children to the world of cultural diversity around them, give them basic knowledge, understanding and experience of how people live in other countries and introduce them to other cultures of the World. The group of 11 Hungarians specially invited to do the Presentation came from Shandor Timar Dance Academy in Budapest and consisted of 6 dancers, 3 musicians, 1 craftsman and 1 storyteller. 0ver the period of 12 days the Group presented workshops featuring Hungarian dance, music, songs, crafts, story-telling, traditional games, and also introducing children to history, geography, language and customs of Hungary. Presentations featuring English Traditions run parallel to the Hungarian Presentations. The Presentations were attended by over 1000 children age 4
to
15.
This was a Pilot project aimed to create enough interest among children and funding authorities to launch the "World of Cultural Diversity'' Presentations year-round. The Festival organisers would also like to thank the following people for their support and help in organising the European Express Presentation: Mr & Mrs Bowler; Mr & Mrs Beaumont, Mr & Mrs Fowler, Mrs. E. Keenan, Mrs. S. Lawson, Miss. A. Lofthouse, Mrs. P. Mulvey, Mr. & Mrs. 0gden, Mrs. P. Reeve, Mr. R Teale, Mr. & Mrs. Bodo and all the local Hungarian Community, and the staff of Bede College.
