where the money goes Big Brothers employs highly qualified staff to: • Recruit, screen and train volunteers • Match children with compatible volunteer mentors • Monitor friendships for child for safety and connection • Develop new programs and community partnerships

“Every dollar invested generates on average $18 in hard dollar returns to society.”

Start Something Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver matches vulnerable children in the community with mentors who serve as role models and teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, of staying in school and of having respect for family, peers and the community. The Big Brothers Program is a friendship based mentoring program that has been around for over 100 years. The program matches adult male volunteers with boys aged 7-14, who have limited to no contact with positive male role models in their lives. Big and Little Brothers spend 2-4 hours a week together doing a wide range of activities they both enjoy.

-Boston Consulting Group, 2013

ERIC & ARIEN

Mentored boys are

3x

Less likely to suffer peer pressure related anxiety, such as worrying about what other children think or say about them.

2x

More likely to believe that school is fun and that doing well academically is important.

2x

Less likely to develop negative conducts like bullying, fighting, lying, cheating, or losing their temper.

“The FIrst time we met we both smiled at each other and we could tell there would be good memories to be had.” (Preliminary Dewitt Research Results, BBBS and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, 2012)
