On behalf of the entire Big Brothers team, I would like to thank you for being part of the 2022 B2Gold Big Brothers Golf Classic on Monday, September 26th at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club.
We feel fortunate indeed to have been able once again to come together as a group to support such a worthwhile cause. We raised over $340,000 thanks to each of you who participated and to our generous sponsors. Special thanks also to our volunteers, staff, and to Shaughnessy for hosting our event again this year.
Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver is an organization dedicated to supporting mentorship relationships for children and youth. We have worked hard to support our families during the difficult pandemic period and we are striving to normalize our programming to make sure all children and youth emerge from this difficult time with hope and optimism for the future. One of the most important messages we can send to our youth is that they are not alone, there is a whole community standing ready to give them a hand, even when times are not great. I thank each and every one of you for that.

As a result of the generous contributions from our sponsors, donors, volunteers and participants, we were able to raise $347,351 at the 14th Big Brothers Golf Classic — the event was a tremendous success!
After last year’s wet weather, the sun gods smiled on us this year and our guests were able to enjoy a beautiful day of golf. Following a delicious “grab and go” breakfast, guests headed off for a round of 18 holes of golf, and at each hole further activities or food and beverages added extra fun for the players. The entertaining atmosphere created a super opportunity for colleagues and players to relax and network on-course. The networking continued later with cocktails while guests bid generously on our silent auction on the silent items and experiences which had been kindly donated, then enjoyed a fabulous meal. The evening’s MC was Global TV’s Mark Madryga who kept the evening moving nicely along, and it was a pleasure to enjoy the company of so many after the last couple of years’ covid-restricted events.
This brings to light the importance of the commendable and meaningful work that Big Brothers offers the Greater Vancouver community. We were delighted to have two inspirational and special guest speakers, Big Brother Cameron and Little Brother Quan, join the cocktail reception and provide a heartwarming account of their experiences and the positive impact that Big Brothers has on their lives.
As with previous years, the success of this event would not be possible without the incredible generosity of our corporate and individual sponsors, participants and auction donors, as well as the tremendous effort and countless hours devoted by the entire Big Brothers team and volunteers. I also want to express our utmost appreciation for the sponsors and players who supported the day’s festivities despite their busy schedules. Please know that your support means a great deal to the Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver team and the young people they mentor.

After a fun-filled and sunny day of golf, our golfers and their guests were invited to spend the evening mingling and networking over delicious wine and appetizers at our cocktail reception.
Golfers and guests were treated to speeches from Big and Little Brothers, Cameron and Quan. The duo provided some amazing insight on the value of Big Brothers’ services in the community and showed all tournament guests how important the effect of mentoring is on both the Little and their family. We want to thank Cameron and Quan for showing our guests how powerful mentorship can be in a child’s life.
Attendees perused a wide variety of adventurous experiences and luxurious items at our silent auction, while hearing stories of the impact of mentorship and taking part in the tournament’s long-running Adopt-a-Match program. The hot ticket item of the night was provided by Langara Island Lodge, who generously donated an all-inclusive four-day trip as the coveted raffle prize.

Following the cocktail reception, tournament guests transitioned to the exquisite banquet room where Mark Madryga of Global BC Television returned as Master of Ceremonies. Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club curated a fabulous spread at the buffet-style banquet dinner, which guests enjoyed as they reminisced about the day while taking in the tournament slideshow.
