Physio has golden touch in Olympics Emma Batchelor, consultant physiotherapist at UHB, has returned from Rio de Janeiro where she helped Team GB win a fantastic Olympic gold medal. Emma is physiotherapist to the Great Britain’s women’s hockey team who were among the star achievers of this year’s games. The team drew 3-3 with the Netherlands team in the final match, which resulted in a dramatic penalty shoot-out and saw them come away with the top medal. Emma has a track record in supporting medalwinning teams; she also helped Great Britain women’s hockey team win a bronze medal at the London Olympics, which was their first Olympic hockey medal for 20 years. Emma has also worked as a physiotherapist with England Netball. Emma’s UHB colleagues were supporting Team GB’s journey throughout the Olympics and everyone was really excited to watch the women’s hockey team achieve the gold. Many even spotted Emma coming on and off the pitch to aid the injured players. Yvonne Pettigrew, Associate Director for Therapy Services & AHP Lead, followed the games religiously and said: “Well done to the GB women’s hockey team with Emma Batchelor UHB Consultant Physiotherapist as their team physio! What an achievement, I’m so proud!” Dame Julie Moore, Chief Executive at UHB,

Patients and visitors now have access to a free WiFi network through a service funded by QEHB Charity. The new Wifi network enables patients and visitors to keep in touch, listen to music, catch up on TV or check their Twitter feed when they have to be in hospital. It also means patients can give the Trust real time feedback as they will have easy access to patient experience surveys.” The new WiFi network is available at the following locations: ■ Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham ■ Nuffield House ■ Heritage Building (majority of areas) ■ Trust Headquarters/Haematology Clinic ■ Post Graduate Centre ■ The Learning Hub To connect, just search for a network called QEHBCharity-guestWiFi, enter your email address and then agree to the terms and conditions. The WiFi has been funded by QEHB Charity for patients and visitors to use. Staff are being asked not to use this network as the bandwidth has a finite capacity – if staff use it, this will impact on the level of service which patients and visitors receive.
