Blackstone: Hilton Worldwide
Hilton Hotels is one of the most widely recognised hotel brands worldwide. Our team dealt with six Scottish hotels in the $26bn acquisition of the group by Blackstone Real Estate completing the diligence and advising on property finance and security. The team worked alongside Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, a New York firm based in London.
Premier Inn Hotels
Advising Whitbread’s Premier Inn Hotels, the UK’s largest chain of quality budget hotels. Recent deals have included, St Andrew House, Glasgow, the development of a new 210 bedroom hotel over 17 floors in the city’s tallest commercial building to be opened in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Marriott International
Advising a world leading hotel brand. Recent activity has included advising Marriott on the acquisition and development of a site at Aberdeen Airport for a 194-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel. Advising Marriott on the management and related agreements for an extended stay Residence Inn by Marriott hotel at Quartermile in central Edinburgh. The Quartermile property will be the first Residence Inn hotel in the UK and one of the first to open in Europe.
Apex Hotels
Advising Apex Hotels Limited, one of Scotland’s most innovative hotel brands, on acquisitions and development projects – their latest acquisition being Serjeants Inn, London, from the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, a historic building located in one of London’s Inns of Court, for redevelopment into high quality hotel accommodation. This will further strengthen a brand that is already well established in Edinburgh, London and Dundee
Royal Bank of Scotland PLC: Sojourn Hotels Group
Acting for the Royal Bank of Scotland PLC in the acquisition and development financing of Sojourn Hotels to fund the acquisition and redevelopment of the former Osbourne Hotel, York Place, Edinburgh. The redeveloped hotel will trade under the Indigo Brand.
Co-operative Bank
Acting for The Co-Operative Bank in completing the financing of the purchase and redevelopment of a Victorian building in the heart of Glasgow’s finance district under the umbrella of the Business Premises Renovation Allowance Scheme. This stylish hotel will operate under the Indigo brand and will be managed by Chardon Management. Acting for The Co-operative Bank, in a similar Business Premises Renovation Allowance Scheme driven project, for £3.4m development and refurbishment facilities in relation to the Easy Hotel in Glasgow.
Starboard Hotels
Acting for the joint venture partners including Starboard Hotels in acquiring out of administration The Smart City Hostel, Edinburgh, a 5 star backpackers hostel, the largest in the city and subsequently refinancing the business with the Royal Bank of Scotland and putting into place a management agreement.
“Amazing Retreats”
Advising “Amazing Retreats”, an unsurpassed collection of exclusive properties being put together by Clarenco to create a portfolio of iconic venues in spectacular locations for special occasions. Recent deals have included the acquisition of Ackergill Tower, a castle on the north coast of Scotland, Kinnettles Castle, a magnificent Scottish Baronial House in Angus, as well as Carberry Tower, a castle near Edinburgh.
Deutsche Postbank AG: Caledonian Hotel
Acting for Deutsche Postbank AG in documenting secured ÂŁ22 million refinancing and development facilities to the owners of the Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh, to be rebranded as a Waldorf Astoria hotel on completion of refurbishment.
Trump International Golf Links
US billionaire Donald Trump’s golf and leisure resort at Balmedie has caused controversy since it was first announced. It will be a significant development for Scotland in the leisure industry supporting the Government's aspirations for “golf tourism�. We acted for its planning authority (Aberdeenshire Council) which supported the development. We advised them on the procedures resulting in the consent granted ultimately by the Scottish Ministers and successfully represented them in defending the challenges brought by third party objectors.
