Angela Bigg has been named president and CEO of Diavik Diamond Mine by owner Rio Tinto. She will be the first woman to lead the mine in the Northwest Territories and its 1,100 employees. Angela joined the Diavik team in November 2017 as VP finance and was recently general manager of Diavik. She joined Rio Tinto in 2005 and has worked in Mozambique, South Africa and Australia, where she is from. She succeeds Richard Storrie who has left the company.
Robert Friedland, founder and co-chair of Ivanhoe Mines, was recently inducted into the American Mining Hall of Fame and presented with a bronze plaque commemorating his accomplishments. He has developed a portfolio of public and private companies, whose initiatives have led to several significant mine developments, among them the Voisey’s Bay nickel mine in Canada, the Kamoa-Kakula copper mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Platreef PGM mine in South Africa.
Trevor Spark is now SNCLavalin’s global VP of tailings and water management for mining and metallurgy. He is based in the United Kingdom and will lead the expansion of the division, working in collaboration with our teams around the world. He has 30 years of experience in fluid engineering, solidliquid filtration and mineral processing, as well as project execution, sales and marketing, and consultancy. He has guided and delivered numerous international projects.

She replaces interim CFO Andrew Carne. » Bald Eagle Gold appointed Raymond Harari CEO and Sidney Himmel chair of the board. » Baselode Energy appointed Kevin Canario as CFO. » Caledonia Mining says CEO Steve Curtis is retiring and will be succeeded by current CFO Mark Learmonth. » Randy Reifel, founder, chairman and president of Chesapeake Gold, is relinquishing his duties as president but will continue as executive chair of the board. » Consolidated Uranium added Marty Tunney as president and COO. » John McGloin is the new CEO of Diamond Fields Resources. » The new COO at Elevation Gold is Tim J. Swendseid, formerly COO at the Lagunas Norte mine in Peru. » Euro Manganese named Matthew James its new CEO. » Jerzy Orzechowski is now the executive project director for Iamgold’s Côté gold mine. The company also said CFO and executive VP Danielle Dimitrov has taken
on additional responsibility for strategy and corporate development. » Ken Malone was named chief revenue officer at International Zeolite. » Kodiak Copper announced the appointment of Nancy Curry to VP corporate development and Harpreet Bajaj as corporate secretary. » Marimaca Copper said COO Luis Tondo Is stepping down. » Peter Goudie is now site manager at Maritime Resources’ Hammerdown gold project. » Paul Hardy joined Mason Graphite as VP corporate development. » Melinda Hsu, CFO of Minco Capital, is also now also corporate secretary.
» RJK Explorations welcomed Gino Chitaroni to its management team as president. » Sherritt International announced the planned retirement of COO Steve Wood, effective Apr. 30. It has also promoted Dan Russel to senior VP metals; Elvin Saruk to head of growth projects in addition to his title of senior VP of oil, gas and power; and Greg Hong to head of the marketing and technologies group, in addition to being chief commercial officer. » Rod Husband was named CEO of StraightUp Resources. » Surge Copper appointed Mark Wheeler its VP projects.
