WHO WE ARE It is hard to account for all of them, however, 17 years have passed since we built our first Badlands® Back pack. So much has changed since then, yet much more of the equation is exactly the same. Yes, we sell a lot more product and the company has grown significantly in other aspects as well. Although, all said and done it is still a group of very passionate people, who eat, sleep and drink what we do. Nobody is above picking up the phone to listen to a customer – unless they are mad, then we draw straws… We all still gather together in the design room, like kids at Christmas to see what the new prototypes look like. Then fight like cats and dogs over who gets to test what. Yep, much the same as it was 17 years ago. The thing that has changed most, is our desire to take what we have learned over the years and apply it-not only to how one carries gear, but how people interact with it. This is vitally important, because this relationship can enhance or diminish the entire hunting experience. Our desire has led us to the equipment that hands down, you interact with more than any other… Your hunting apparel.

ow far should a company stray from their core discipline? Should car companies make golf clubs? We would assume that candy makers would be wise to stay away from semi conductors. Yes, there are definitely boundaries to a brands credible reach. Now turn it the other way; what if the company’s discipline happens to be innovation, providing them the unique ability to bring ideas and concepts to the table that would enhance the experience of an entire group. One may look at that situation and say “not only should they expand into other categories, they have a responsibility to do so”... At Badlands® we feel that responsibility everyday. This obligation to innovate and improve stems from our passion for hunting and the outdoors. When we see or experience something that detracts from this passion, we set out to change it. This is where our quest to design and produce better performing hunting apparel began. We literally had a ton of new concepts and ideas which would improve what was currently available. It has been a long and expensive road and on many occasions we wondered “what the hell are we doing?” , But it always came back to the "passion and the responsibility" we feel daily to provide our customers with the best equipment possible. The most important element to staying warm is first staying dry. The Badlands® Biothermic™ base layer pulls moisture away from your body, helping to regulate your core temperature. It is made from a multi-stretch polyester, which allows a full anatomical range of motion resulting in a chronically comfortable base. The fabric we use has been impregnated with the most effective anti-microbial system available. It reduces funk and adds to the life of the garment.
Now that you are dry, it is time to hold on to your body’s heat with the best insulating layers ever built. Our own independent laboratory studies rated them at somewhere around R-One Million. Hell, if you covered your attic in this stuff you could go all winter long without firing up the furnace. All Badlands®' Mid Weight Insulation and outer layers offer superior tailoring with articulated shoulders, knees and elbows; which greatly enhances your ability to stay active and move freely.
So we kept you dry with the base layer, and retained your body heat with some gnarly insulation. However, there are three parts to obtaining functional fusion; the third is to keep out the cold. No SH#$*$ you say… Although, this may sound obvious it is far more difficult than you may expect. It is actually three challenges in one. We conquer each one of these through the use of several unique materials which stop the wind and rain, and allow moisture to “vapor out” through a microporus membrane.
SRS is the ultimate antimicrobial treatment. It is impregnated deep into the fabric’s fiber, allowing it to kill odor causing microbes in the most effective way possible. SRS is so effective it will last up to 50 wash cycles.

Sometimes a technology can work too well. Take for example our proprietary Fusion Fleece. By adding multiple density fabric into each of the jacket panels, we were able to squeeze far more BTU’s from our Impact Jacket than any other product on the market. The problem was it was just too warm for many situations. As often times it goes the simplest solution can be the best. So, we cut the sleeves off. The result was the Kinetic Vest. Brilliant….

Whatever the reason, it presented an incredible opportunity to make something better. What we needed was a new way to build light weight jackets with maximum insulation qualities. What we came up with was "Fusion Fleece" It works by joining multiple layers and densities of materials, then placing the resulting panels strategically around the body for the ultimate insulation.

The great thing about technology is; things just keep getting smaller. The smaller things are-the fewer resources they consume and the more sustainable they become. The Inferno is a perfect example of this; it is super lightweight for great mobility. It’s technically advanced materials allow you to pack it into an extremely small area. Just like its larger cousin The Pursuit, this fanny pack is all about performance. There are no frills or doohickeys that you won’t need. Only usable features which add far more convenience than weight.
