THE DRAW The Grand Prize will be drawn under independent supervision between 7pm and 7.30pm on Sunday, May 16, 2021 and streamed live on Facebook (boatshownewzealand). The first ticket drawn will be checked to ensure that it has been correctly filled in, with the eight stamps all in their correct places. If the ticket is deemed to be correctly completed, we will immediately ring the nominated phone number on the ticket (NB: this is expected to be between 7pm and 7.30pm). If the call is answered, the person whose name is on the ticket will have won the 2021 Surtees/ Yamaha Grand Prize! CLASSIC & QUIRKY Be sure to check out the show’s unique display of retro, classic and quirky boats, both old and new. There will be a wide variety of very different vessels in the display, celebrating those who have beautifully restored some of the classic powerboats of days gone by, as well as those imaginative Kiwis who have created some of our more unusual floating oddities. One of the more unusual vessels on display will be the electric classic English river launch, Solarly. A replica of a 1920’s design, she began her life on the upper reaches of the Thames, before moving to a large lake in Switzerland. Now available for hire in Kerikeri, at 6.4m she can take 6 people and cruise at up to 6.5 knots. Another is the Phil Bolgerdesigned micro trawler Tugly. Just 4.3m long with a beam of 2.4m, she can sleep two adults and two kids under about 8 years and, with a 45hp outboard, can reach almost 22 knots. The delightful 1933 7.3m

Hacker Craft Happy Days is another sure to turn heads. Built by Carrie Olson in Picton and restored by Craig Marine for Peter Davies, it has been in Peter’s family for 84 yrs. It is powered by a 160hp Ford flathead V8, rebuilt by Rob Cowley. The 1970s Pelin Empress 26, Lady K, has been loving restored after being bought last year and found to be riddled with rot through the hull, cabin sides and deck. After long hours over many months, she was finally returned to her former glory just in time for the final races of this year’s America’s Cup Rounding out the display are the beautifully restored classic 1958 Francecraft; the 8.6m David Thomas outboard-powered Badnam launch, Sprat; the 4.7m Zip, home-built over 6 years by Brendon Frater using GRP over plywood with Fijian kauri frames and mahogany and yellow cedar deck; the stunning Whio and a justcompleted 6.7m Hartley Voyager.

EURO CITY MASTER CLASSES Free tips and advice from our experts Improve your fishing success with clever new tips, techniques and great practical advice in our free Euro City Fishing Master Classes. Held in The Rock Fishing Hall, surrounded by loads of retailers, both large and small, the always-popular Master Classes are a non-stop series of free fishing seminars, featuring some of the country’s top fishing experts. They will share their experiences, offer fresh insights and show off some of their favourite techniques on the NZ Fishing News stage. This year, the 2021 Euro City Master Classes will be hosted by Hauraki Gulf fishing guru, Bruce Duncan. Bruce, author of the popular Hauraki Gulf Fishing Hot Spots, will also share his tips for successfully straylining for snapper, and show the quickest, easiest and most effective way to fillet them.
