Where are Leaders, Ulemas, Intellectuals and organizations?

Indian Muslims: Economic Upliftment and Entrepreneurial Spirit In the modern struggling world no community can flourish until and unless it improves and keeps improving its economic parameters and there by acquires a respectable position among its fellow communities. And the same applies to Indian Muslims community also.

Among the myriad problems pressing the Indian Muslim community, their economic backwardness is most serious and requires urgent attention. This economic backwardness is also the cause of many other problems.

But thinking and feeling Muslims who want to improve the condition of their community almost always take educational backwardness of Muslims as the only reason for the present painful economic condition of them.

And that is why on different Muslim forums on the net, the minuscule healthy and constructive part of the discussions almost always consists only of educational scenario and talks of establishing schools etc.

But, in my opinion, this notion is only partially correct. For the overall improvement in the condition of Indian Muslims, not only education, but many other fields require special attention of the thinkers and feelers of the community.

In spite of Muslims lagging behind others in educational field, there are a large number of degree holders who are unemployed or underemployed. The visible unemployment among educated youths, for some others creates a sort of loathness, a sort of aversion towards education. This cycle further worsen the situation.

Then there is a sizable number of those who graduate from different Madarsas and Darul Ulooms across the country every year and find themselves at the receiving end of the harsh realities of an intensely competitive world where survival of the fittest is only the norm.

Though the very notion of education as a means of becoming employable and there after keep looking for work (job) and then keep working for others is not very healthy.

But even this notion of education provides almost no options for Madarsas and Darul Ulooms’ product. And very few options for university graduates. Recruiting schemes and policies of Indian Government even if applied impartially or chances in Gulf countries cannot provide job to all of them always.

Here it is not out of context to mention that

people in developed countries do not remain stick to their jobs. They always keep trying for something better and different.

According to Paul Reynolds, entrepreneurship scholar and creator of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, "by the time they reach their retirement years, half of all working men in the United States probably have a period of self-employment of one or more years. Participating in a new business creation is a common activity among U.S. workers over the course of their careers." (Wikipedia) For Indian Muslim community, the situation can be improved by creating as many opportunities as possible by the community itself to absorb the unemployed, and by raising awareness among those Muslim commercial establishments that are already in the field, to give preference to deserving Muslims.

One, of the many things that are required, is establishing commercially viable Small & Medium size industrial and marketing units with the sole aim of absorbing in them as many as possible already educated but unemployed or under-employed Muslim youths, and skilled, semi-skilled or unskilled Muslim labourers of different level and categories so that they gradually turn from being seekers of help to becoming providers of help.

In fact this can be achieved only by systematic efforts to develop entrepreneurial attitude in the community.

This is imperative as job market for Indian Muslim Community is shrinking day by day within the country and prospects in the Gulf countries also don’t seem very promising and ever lasting. Developing entrepreneurial attitude, ability and skills is indispensible for the proper mooring of the Madarsas and Darul Ulooms’ product also in the struggling world.

Entrepreneurship is the act and art of being an entrepreneur which can be taught and learn. An entrepreneur is a person who is willing and able to find out a new idea or invention and convert it into a successful business. In short entrepreneurship aims at creation of new businesses and encompasses all those activities which are possible, legally permitted and morally not forbidden.

Entrepreneurial thinking among Muslims youths will bring a sort of confidence in them and lead them away from the unhealthy,

though not totally unrealistic, feeling of victimization, partiality and helplessness.

Not only solo, preferably there can be groupentrepreneurs also by pooling together local recourses and opportunities. It may also bring a sort of closeness and unity among Muslim youths and may lessen the ill effects of growing sectarian differences as well.

To achieve this: 1.

There should be organized efforts to develop entrepreneurial thinking among Muslim youths, especially among those who are educated but unemployed.

2. For this, material should be prepared by collecting general as well as industryspecific information to provide them a base to stand on.

3. Programs, work-shops etc. should be organized by requesting the services of the expert of the field, to turn educated but unemployed Muslim youths into successful entrepreneurs.

4. They should be encouraged to develop commercially viable innovative business projects, initially on micro-level, locally on their own.

5. Out of well to do and caring elders of the community, a group of venture capitalists should be raised who invest in promising projects on mutually beneficial but strict and well defined terms and conditions. (no donation, but investment, something on the concept and pattern of American SharkTank reality show) Shark Tank is an American reality TV series, started in August 2009 that brings aspiring entrepreneurs and potential investors together. The shows feature a panel of potential investors, called "sharks," that considers offers from contestants who are aspiring entrepreneurs seeking investments for their business or product. And not only the American Shark Tank, in many other countries also there are similar programs and activities.

For the benefit of Indian Muslims, as per the requirements some micro models of this can developed and implemented at local levels.

Let me summarize my view of our own Shark Tank by going back to age-old saying: ‘To a hungry man don’t give fish, but teach him fishing’ …………….. and I add………. ‘Provide him net or fishing-rod too but on mutually beneficial term and conditions.’

We need two kinds of education. One that teaches us how to make a living and one that teaches us how to live.

People are engrossed in their professional life and neglect their family, health and social responsibilities.

Without water, a ship cannot move. The ship needs water, but if the water gets into the ship, the ship will sink.

Similarly we live in a time where earning is a necessity but let not the earning enter our hearts, for what was once a means of living will become a means of destruction. So take a moment and ask yourself..has the water entered my ship?"

B a c k w a r d n e s s o f M u s l i m s Muslims were at the bottom in rural areas, with an average monthly per capita expenditure of Rs 833, followed by Hindus at Rs 888, Christians at Rs 1,296 and Sikhs 1,498.

NEW DELHI: Among various religious groups, Muslims have the lowest living standard with the average per capita expenditure of just Rs 32.66 in a day, says a government survey.

At the other end of the spectrum, Sikh community enjoys a much better lifestyle as the average per capita spending among them is Rs 55.30 per day, while the same for Hindus is Rs 37.50. For Christians it is Rs 51.43.

"At all-India level, the average monthly per capita expenditure (MPCE) of a Sikh household was Rs 1,659 while that for a Muslim household was Rs 980 in 200910," said an NSSO study titled 'Employment and Unemployment Situation Among Major Religious Groups in India'.

The average household MPCE is a proxy for income and reflects that living standards of a family.

According to the study, the average MPCE for Hindus and Christians were Rs 1,125 and Rs 1,543, respectively.

The survey said that average monthly per capita consumption at all-India level was Rs 901 in villages and Rs 1,773 in cities. Overall, the average MPCE was Rs 1,128.

Muslims were at the bottom in rural areas, with an average MPCE of Rs 833, followed by Hindus at Rs 888, Christians at Rs 1,296 and Sikhs 1,498.

Ever since his birth, his face illuminated the radiance of sun, divine grace and mercy acquiesced his magnimanious personality. At the age of six, his mother escalated to her higher heavenly abode, leaving the infantile, innocent child at the mercenaries of a harsh, callous and oligarchic society. He was conspicuous for his high moral character, dignified personality and philanthropic values. He bought forth a message of serene and soothing amplitude which would change the face of human civilization and unified the boisterous and raucous Arabs under the banner of Islam. Within a period of 80 years after his death the Muslims established a vast and glorious empire beyond the oxus and the pyrenes on the shores of the Caspian and in the valley of the Nile. Fourteen centuries since his death, his name resonates vociferously five times a day stretching forth from the Alaskan mountains to the sandy barren dunes of Arabia. His saying, teachings, every aspect of his persona vividly and profoundly affects the 1.8 billion adherents of Islam all over the world. He is God’s final Messenger and the seal of the Prophets- Muhammad (PBUH) According to Islamic etymology, Allah himself is the legislator and his prophet is the exponent of the law. Every act to the Prophet with regards to religious implication and injunction is the perfect manifestation of the applicability of the divine decree. Moreover, the pleasure and gratification of Allah lies in adhering Bakhabar

to the commandments of his prophet.

“Say (O Muhammad) If you love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you and forgive you your faults” Quran 3:31 “He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah” Quran 4:80 Loving the prophet with unconditional demeanour and willing submission to his commandments is a prerequisite of faith. The diseases of our age are many and we have further aggravated our reprehensible situation by weaving around ourselves the satanic cobwebs of impertinence, abhorrence and shallow mentality. The forces of economic exploitation, wanton greed, vengeance and unjustified wars have wrecked havoc, instability and complete loss of peace and tranquillity from our lives. It is rare to find examples when the virtues of love, generousity and forgiveness are reflected in the lives of people. Fourteen centuries ago, in the barren lands of Arabia an illiterate person promulgated such serene injunctions which liberated the society of its anarchic and despondent state of affairs. The Prophet said:A man asked the Messenger of Allâh (Peace be upon him) which of the merits is superior in Islam. He [the Prophet (Peace be upon him)] remarked: • “That you provide food and extend greetings to one whom you know or do not know.”

‘Abdullah bin Salâm said: When the Prophet (Peace be upon him) arrived in Madinah, I went to see him and I immediately recognized through his features that he would never be a liar.

The first things he (the Prophet [Peace be upon him)] said was: “Extend peace greetings amongst yourselves, provide food to the needy, maintain uterine relations, observe prayer at night while people are asleep, then you will peacefully enter the Garden (Paradise) “He is not a perfect believer, who goes to bed full and knows that his neighbour

is hungry.”

“Show mercy to people on earth so that Allâh will have mercy on you in heaven.”

Those were the attributes and qualities on whose basis the Prophet (Peace be upon him) wanted to build a new society, the most wonderful and the most honourable society ever known in history. On these grounds, he strove to resolve the longstanding problems, and later gave mankind the chance to breathe a sigh of relief after a long wearying journey in dark and gloomy avenues. Such lofty morale lay at the very basis of creating a new society with integrated components immune to all fluctuations of time, and powerful enough to change the whole course of humanity.

All his actions ranging from pertinent matters of religious instructions to petty ordinances such as his posture of sleeping have been meticulously recorded in the books of Ahadith.

Exalted and dignified is his stature and any reproaches on his personal dignity and honour is opposed with vehemence and infatuation. Allah says “The Prophet is closer to the believers than their themselves” Quran 33:6 He, more than any of his contemporary prophets or any other religious personality has dynamically affected the repertoire and the core schema of the Muslim community. There is hardly a faction of our life which remains unheralded of the teachings and commandments of the prophet. The laws and axioms of the Islamic Combat, social and fiscal affairs are all derived from the authentic traditions of the Prophet. Allah says “Indeed you have, in the Messenger of Allah the best pattern (of conduct)” Quran 33:21

O U R J O U R N E Y T O T H E D A Y O F R E S U R R E C T I O N … Continued from Previous issue The beauty of this world for which we Muslim too have been spending a lot of money to see and enjoy is nothing comparing to the beauty of Jannah. The moment our Emaan (belief) is converted to Yaqeen (surety) the money spent on tourism can be diverted to charity in order to have an everlasting tourism packages in Jannah. The Prophet (S) describes heaven in the following terms : "There is in it what no eye has even seen, things of which no ear has ever heard and what no one has ever imagined."

Followings are descriptions of Paradise for us to try in this world to qualify for it, Insha Allah. It can be done only if we consider this world merely a Musafir Khana (Travelers House) where people pass the time not live on time.

1. Paradise has eight gates.

2. Paradise has one hundred levels.

3. Bricks used are of gold and silver.

4. Prophet will get “Al-Waseelah” The Highest level of Paradise.

5. There are lights of pearl.

6. Its soil of saffron, a fine white powder.

7. There is a sea of honey, a sea of wine, a sea of milk and a sea of water, and the rivers flow out of these seas. Wine will be highly tasteful without any sore taste and bad smell.

8. In it are rivers of water; rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine, and rivers of honey pure and clear.

One can bring canal to one’s selected place without any trouble.

9. There are spring of Kafoor, Salsabeel, and spring of Kauthar which will be given in custody of prophet Mohammad (S) 10. The wine of Paradise is crystal-white, delicious to those who drink and free from intoxication.

11. Dark Green Gardens under which rivers flow.

12. Pebbles of pearl and sapphire 13. There are Tent, hollowed out pearl 14. Its fragrance can be discerned from a distance of forty years' traveling. The best of the aromatic plants of Paradise is henna.

15. Fruits of all kinds, two types having taste of world but much better in quality, including dates and pomegranates, apple, grape, pomegranates. The fruits in bunches will be low and near at hand.

16. Trees, like date palms and, thornless

Lot-trees, among them Talh trees with fruits piled one above another.

17. There is no tree in Paradise that does not have a trunk made of gold 18. Tooba is a tree in Paradise, as big as a hundred year's journey; the clothes of the people of Paradise comes from its calyces.

Their clothes will never wear out.

19. Tree, Sidrat Al-Muntaha, its Nabq [fruits] looked like the clay jugs of Hajar, leaves like ears of elephants, and one of these leaves could cover the whole of this Ummah.

20. Beautiful high dwellings or mansion whose inside can be seen from the outside, and the outside can be seen from inside.

21. Flesh of any fowl that they may desire.

22. Some heavens will be having all utensils and other things of Silver and some of Gold.

23. People will be like Adam, sixty cubits tall, age about 30 to 33 and their youth will never fade.

24. People will not urinate, defecate, spit, blow their noses or excrete.

25. There will be no sickness, pain or sadness.

26. People will sit on gold-encrusted thrones, reclining on green cushions and rich carpets, facing one another, eating and talking and drinking.

27. Immortal youths will serve them with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with wine from unsullied springs by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk.

28. They will be given to drink there a cup [of wine] mixed with Zanjabeel (ginger), from a spring there, called Salsabeel.

29. Also wine mixed with Tasneem (spring in Paradise), drink from it are those who are nearest to Allah.

30. People of Paradise will look at the people dwelling in the chambers above them in the same way that people look at a brilliant star shining far away on the horizon.

31. People of Paradise will also be able to look Hell and talk to them.

32. People will go every Friday to a market, then a wind will come from the north and blow on their faces and clothes, and they will get increase in beauty.

33. People will be in permanent joy and will never feel miserable.

34. Their wives will be Al-Hoor Al-Eyn. Very beautiful, like Rubies and Coral. The marrow of whose calves will be visible from beneath the flesh because of their

beauty.

35. The wives will sing to their husband in the most beautiful voices that anyone has ever heard.

36. Hoors are like pearls hidden in their shells, having big and lustrous eyes but restrained (as to their glances).

37. If a woman from the people of Paradise were to look at this earth, she would light up everything between it and fill it with her fragrance; the veil on her head is better than this world and all that is in it 38. Worldly spouses shall be in a renewed life, as virgins with full of love and well matched.

39. The close relatives will get joined t higher stages by Allah blessing. (Parents with children or spouses) 40. There will be no hatred of resentment among them, their hearts will be as one.

41. They shall not hear therein any Laghw (useless talk), talk starting by saying salaam to each other.

42. People shall abide for ever and will never die.

43. Abu Bakr and 'Umar will be the leaders of men of Paradise from the earlier and later generations.

44. Hasan and Husayn are the leaders of the youth of Paradise 45. The best women of Paradise are Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid, Faatimah bint Muhammad, Maryam bint Imraan and Aasiyah bint Muzahim - wife of Fir'awn In contrary the Hell where fire is the main source of punishment is so bad that none can imagine its degree and intensity. Allah says: O Ye who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire whereof the fuel is men and stones, over which are set strong and sever angels who resist not Allah in that which He commanded them, but they do that which they are commanded (Al-Tahreem/6) The description of Hell is given above just for an example as Hell is not meant for Muslim. Allah says: And ward off (from yourselves) the Fire prepared for Disbelievers (Ale-Emran/131) So, if a Muslim goes there it is his fault. By this I have come to the conclusion of writing about “Our Journey to the Day of Resurrection (23 parts)”. Now all parts can be collected from Bakhabar Site to be compiled in one as a Booklet, if wished.

U p d a t e o f B i h a r A n j u m a n Bihar Anjuman’s support fulfills the dream of the Son of a Peon in JIH office, helps him to complete his B.Arch. degree from Delhi Brother Tahseen Ahmad reported on Friday, Aug 2nd, 2013 this good news, from Dammam, where the chapter was geared up by him to find a suitable placement for this beneficiary of Bihar Anjuman’s scholarship program which started some eight years back by the name of BANEE (the founder).

The good news is that this student completed his B.Arch. degree from the prestigious Jamia Millia Islamia University. Waseem Akram, son of a peon in Jamat e Islami Hind headquarters, comes from a very humble background.

With a meagre income, his father Jaseemuddin managed to get him well educated in an expensive city like Delhi, with support coming through Bihar Anjuman, with the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.

His family needs not worry about the expenses on education of his younger siblings, with Waseem determined to take care of them.

Syed Tahseen Ahmad, sharing this good news with the chapter ’s founder convenor, Syed Tahseen Ahmad, was delighted with the thought that a family’s financial woes have finally been laid to rest, and they can now plan for happier moments for their future life. Subhanllah!

In an email shared with the network he said, “I would like to bring into your kind attention that that with your generous support & help, we provided 110 food parcels as one time food to the needy in Seiko Park starting July 14th night till the last day of Ramadan.” Most of the stranded people being muslims could find some reprieve from this help which reduced part of their miseries resulting from the lack of basic amenities, topped up by the sweltering summer heat.

The Dammam-Khobar team distributed 46 Air Tickets to the needy belonging to Uttar Pradesh (maximum number), Uttra Khand, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Bihar, Karnatka, Jharkhand, HP & AP. They were making arrangements for 10 more air tickets to be given away before 25th August.

These people were not at all in a position to purchase Air Tickets on their own.

Food and air ticket is being arranged by NRIs till the Saudi government authority clears the documents for final exit. The King has extended the date of grace period till November, 2013 after that any people found in kingdom of Saudi Arabia without legal documents will be put behind the bar.

Syed Rasique ahmad was speaking on the eve of Iftar party organized by a prominent social worker and Operational Manger of NBC company Nasiruddin who happens to be also a member of Managing committee of International Indian School Jubail where 6000 Indian students have been studying.

After iftar the program was started by recitation of Surah by Master Saiem. Mr. Abudl Haleem read Haditis and he translated the meaning in Urdu as well.

Then Mr. Syed Rasique was called upon to address the audience. He shared the good news about those Indians who were in impasse for almost three months in official technical snag. At Tarheel, the finger prints for 250 persons were completed in presence of Convenor of Bihar Anjuman Mr. Rasique Ahmad, Advisory Committee Member of Bihar Anjuman Mr. Shakil Hashmi with Mr. Ravi Goyel and Mr. Imdad, officers from Embassy of India, Riyadh.

Till 24 July 2013 at Tarheel, exit process executed for more than 100 people. Exits has been awarded mainly to sick and old age group persons who were stranded at down town near Seiko Park. In the initial stage 110 food parcels were distributed, but now arrangement has been made for 100 food parcels to be delivered on daily basis till the exodus of Seiko Park will take place as final exit.

He further said that the continious phone calls, emails from NRIs has boosted our morale and moreover, the well wishes and prayer has brought them sigh of relief.

Dramatization of Anger on Border Killings On August 5, 2013, five soldiers of the Indian Army were killed at the Indo-Pak border, 400 meter inside the line of actual control in the Poonchh sector of J&K. It is deeply painful that we have lost five of our brave brothers who always remained on their toes at high risk for our sake without demanding even a fraction of comforts we live in. It is equally painful that the fragile trust between the two warring armies has suffered a severe setback. The government has rightly registered our national anguish and protest. Our security forces will have to be on higher alert to stop such occurrences in future. .

The ghastly incident has evoked outpour of anger which is fine. However, one must refrain from escalating it into a war and building hatred against the people of Pakistan who themselves are victims of terrorist violence and of Army’s assertiveness. By raising the bogey of tough military action along with round the clock media indulgence, we would only be propping up only dangerous musclemen, known for death and devastation of our own people. We must realize that wars these days are not winnable or decisive like the one we won in 1971. Mighty Soviet Union could not win a war in Afghanistan, So has been the fate of USA in Afghanistan and Iraq. In fact massive offensives now are not launched on borders but through influencing the polity, markets and economy. Thus border conflicts must be confined to borders through political action and military strategy.

None of the masses of India, Pakistan or China want war. Internal violence, be it by the communalists, terrorists or the state, and rising authority of the corporate sector are much more serious concerns and these deserve our full attention.

Why the Political Thinking of Educated/ Elite Classes is so opposed to that of the Masses?

Delhi from Ahmedabad, As my train stopped at Jaipur, a huge crowed of youths, who had come for police selections, entered my compartment.

Some sat by my side. They started talking among themselves on political issues. Their conversation revealed deep contempt for Gandhi and appreciation for Narendra Modi. I wondered how would they behave with the masses if selected for police service?

The experience of IIT Delhi is no different. Seventeen years ago, when the play “Me Nathuram Godse Boltoi”, eulogizing Godse, was doing frequent stage shows in Gujarat and Mumbai, I distributed pamphlets bringing out the truth about Gandhi. In IIT hostel a student said to me: Godse was a patriot.

And he was not alone in such thinking. In Patiala house court, a lawyer tore off my pamphlet. At another place, 4-5 lawyers uttered vulgar abuses on Gandhi while their liking for Advani was obvious. Near ten Janpath, a police van was on patrol for Sonia Gandhi. When I gave the pamphlet, the head constable only revealed contempt for Gandhi. In Chandni chowk and other markets, the shopkeepers had much bitter hatred for Gandhi and attachment with RSS. In contrast to this, when I distributed the pamphlets in Yamuna Pushta slums, singing “Bharat ki sarzameen par wo inqlaab aaya, charkhe ke ek Wali se sansaar jagmagaya”, people would gather around me and listen to me.

Hindus, Muslims, Dalits and savarnas, all alike, had love for Gandhi. So was the response in other less privileged localities.

Since long the political thinking in the country has been deeply divided.

Jawahar Lal Nehru and Indira Gandhi used to win elections with two third majority (with the support of the masses), even then the traders, officers and affluent sections used to have hatred and ill notions against them. The leaders whom the masses of the country look with high respect, these people see with contempt. Only in 1977 the political inclinations of the masses and the elite converged. However, in

next two and half years they again became poles apart. What could be the cause?

The elite classes carry the complex of superiority and authority. They need similar kind of idols. They can not digest religious, economic or caste equality.

They have special hatred for Muslims and that helps them in strengthening their hold on power. Hence their idols are of similar character. It is not difficult to see that the democracy in the country is surviving due to the masses otherwise these classes would bring Nazism or dictatorship.

Among the educated class, there exists a small percentage of progressive people - communists, socialists, Gandhians, Bahujansamajis, etc.- who think on the issues of the masses and want to advance their interests. .

Since 1991, drastic changes have taken place in the country. Markets and economy have been opened for the multinational companies. Capital and markets control the Economy. Media is in the grip of corporate houses and employs news as a powerful weapon to pressurize the government to perpetuate their interests. On the internet, only the elite have access hence praises are being sung for Modi. A special reason for this attachment is that he taught a tough lesson to Muslims (by giving free hand for riots in which 2000 people were killed and 1 lakh were displaced) and did not allow them to rise. On top of this he is being projected as the man of development while his only attribute is to provide resources of the masses to the corporate sector very cheap.

In the next general election, these elite classes, through every manuovering, propaganda and media indulgence, want to impose their choice on the nation and wish to establish their authoritative and fascist hold. Corner I met a very inspiring taxi-driver yesterday on the way to King Fahd University. He hails from Pakistan, and has been working in Saudi for the past 30 years. Being not-so educated and well qualified, he helped his children gain education and excel in various fields.

His eldest son is Mechanical Engineer working in Atomic Energy, his 2nd son is IT Engineer working in Defense, his 3rd son is Computers Engineer who just completed, his 4th son is studying Engineering and his daughter is to get admission in Medicine and will be future Doctor. MashaAllah.

He told that he hails from very poor family and his father’s continuous illness made him work hard to earn bread and butter for his family. He asserted his parents to never lay hands open before anyone, for he would take care of them.

Now, he attributes all his success to the Duas and supplications his parents made for him; and still he takes care of his mother.

However, the inevitable question is, why he is working still; he loves to work in Saudi, as access to Harmain is easy and instant.

Parents’ supplications for you work miracle in your life and treating your parents with care and patience pleases Allah. [SubhanAllah.]

-Two weeks ago, I was in Mumbai seated with Faruq Abdulkarim Nadiadwala at his residence in Juhu; he was once known popularly in Bollywood as FA Nadiadwala, we were discussing the current issues and some of talks of here and there.

Suddenly, his phone buzzed, and a message from the mother of Bollywood producer Sajid Nadiadwala popped up, asking ruling about praying while sitting. As it’s commonly known fact, he replied, 'yes it is permissible to pray while sitting.'

But she messaged back asking to quote authentic hadith and proofs allowing the permissibly.

Faruq bhai instantly got onto his computer and started checking Fatwas of eminent scholars on the specific ruling and I too was busy with Islam-qa.com to filter the fatwa out on this issue. And finally we got a Fatwa, so he typed her back complete hadith.

I was surprised and amazed at the enthusiasm she shows toward learning the Deen correctly and authentically.

No matter, the background you come from, Allah is always there to forgive you and accept you. It was wonderful indeed to see Faruq bhai too, who was keen in learning and passing down knowledge to his relatives.

Though, this may look a regular case with all of us, but it appeared a big deal to me, as authentic Deen has entered into their homes too.

I see all the secularists, liberals, feminists, and human-right activists are in complete silence over the huge massacre going on in Egypt.

I call them as double-faced spineless hypocrites.

Recently some of my friends went to see an Urdu speaking Shaykh in Hail. We have followed his videos and lectures for the past 12 years.

He is quiet famous in sub-continent. He is also famous to be backed by petro-Dollars and Riyals.

I was surprised to know, he lives in a very simple house in a suburb of Hail, which does not even have ACs (which is basic necessity for

people to survive in Saudi). His personal savings are also too low; his house does not even have basic amenities a person should possess. But he happily lives there fulfilling the responsibility of being an Alim.

So we cannot judge people and pass judgments based suspicion and speculations.

Call for Democracy and prize it as best system; but then again bulldoze it when even Democracy does not go by your plans.

To the contrary, companions of Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) did not live for luxury, they did not build castles and palaces, instead captured castles and palaces for good. They did not enjoy luxurious nights, instead they moved forward to spread the kingdom of God. Today, their graves are well-preserved and respected. Today, historians salute their zeal to liberate the human society.

Other important cities are Bukhara, Samarkand etc. Cities are well connected by air, roads and railways. Trains are fast and comfortable. They run in time and stations look like airports. Educational infrastructure is highly advanced with several universities. Sports facilities are

very good in the country. Women are active in walks of life. They also own and run businesses.

Shahi Zindah Complex is another place worth mention. The complex has several mausoleums. Construction was started in 11th century and continued for nine centuries. Grave of Kusam Ibn Abbas was the centre point around which the entire complex developed. In that complex there was a Madarsaa for advanced education.

Now the Madarsaas of Samarkand are not used as before. They have been converted into markets, craft centres, museums etc.

Mosques attached to the Madarsaas are functional. Now Uzbekistan has a modern Islamic University based in Tashkent with branches in different places. Samarkand has churches, synagogues as well, for the Christians and Jews of the country.

They are well kept and functional. " Mohammad Ismail Abu Abdallah al-Djufi, commonly called Imam Al-Bukhari was born in 810 AD in Bukhara. He died in a village called Hartanga near Samarkand in 870 AD. As we all know he was an outstanding Islamic scholar. His compilation of Ahadeeth is considered authentic. His mausoleum is located at about 30 km from Samarkand. The complex is a beautiful construction using modern technology but without leaving the traditional architecture. The complex has a mosque, area of which is 786 squared m. About 1500 persons can pray there. The mausoleum is in the centre of the complex and it is 9x9 m in area and 17m in height with beautiful turquoise dome."

After independence, India had chosen to adopt a fixed rate currency regime. The rupee was pegged at 4.79 against a dollar between 1948 and 1966.

Two consecutive wars, one with China in 1962 and another one with Pakistan in 1965; resulted in a huge deficit on India's budget, forcing the government to devalue the currency to 7.57 against the dollar.

The rupee's link with the British currency was broken in 1971 and it was linked directly to the US dollar.

In 1975, value of the Indian rupee was pegged at 8.39 against a dollar.

In 1985, it was further devalued to 12 against a dollar.

In 1991, India faced a serious balance of payment crisis and was forced to sharply devalue its currency. The country was in the grip of high inflation, low growth and the foreign reserves were not even worth to meet three weeks of imports. Under these situations, the currency was devalued to 17.90 against a dollar.

1993 was very important. This year currency was let free to flow with the market sentiments. The exchange rate was freed to be determined by the market, with provisions of intervention by the central bank under the situation of extreme volatility. This year, the currency was devalued to 31.37 against a dollar. The rupee traded in the range of 40-50 between 2000 and 2010.

It was mostly at around 45 against a dollar. It touched a high of 39 in 2007.

The Indian currency has gradually depreciated since the global 2008 economic crisis.

The Choice is Yours â&#x20AC;Ś By Khalid Baig (Taken from Albalagh.net) A recent article in the Detroit News contrasted the lives of two ordinary persons from Palestinian refuge camps in Jordan. Two persons joined by faith and circumstances, yet separated by choices of their lifestyles. One awakens at 4 a.m. every day and walks a mile to the mosque for the Fajr prayers. At that time, the other is often just getting to sleep, capping off

another night of drinking and socializing at a bar that caters to tourists and wealthy Palestinians. One keeps abreast of the latest political developments in the Middle East to "ensure our future liberation from Israel." The other, "like many in his Heineken-drinking clique, is oblivious to the latest showdown between the United States and Iraq and the subsequent peace brokered by the United Nations. But â&#x20AC;Ś knows all the words to the latest music videos." One wears a beard.

The other religiously shaves it before happy hour, "because the real hot girls like soft skin." One is concerned about moral decadence and the mortal danger it presents to "their country and their afterlife." The other asks, "Why shouldn't we enjoy ourselves? Come on, you only live once, right?"

The article titled "Partying versus Praying", is pleasantly free of the propaganda overtones characteristic of the mainstream media reports about the Muslim world. In a typical piece, the first person would have been depicted as a "fundamentalist", a fanatic, a "bad guy" who is danger to himself and to the world.

The second person, would, of course, be the "good guy"--- the friendly, "civilized" person who needs encouragement and support. In contrast, here is an objective observation about the clash of two currents. Its objectivity compels those it reports about, to reflect on their situation.

In a way, the story captures the current state of the entire Ummah. For today, the

Ummah is a big refuge camp: Robbed, wounded, tortured, expelled, dispossessed, and disenfranchised. And just like the refuge camp it has two powerful but exactly opposite currents: One represents awakening, turning to Allah, overcoming the base desires, and preparing for liberation from slavery, both physical and intellectual. The other represents falling asleep, turning away from Allah, and "enjoying" the slavery. This is a clash between p i et y an d p r o f a n i t y, between light and d a r k n e s s , between the path to Paradise and the way to Hell.

It is born of the freedom of choice that has been given to every human being. Allah has created two possible destinations for all human beings, and there are two opposite paths leading to them.

"We have shown him the two paths." [AlBalad 90:10] "We showed him the Way: Whether he be grateful or ungrateful." [Al-Insan 76:3] The first path leads to success, the other to failure. "By the Soul and the proportion and order given to it, and its inspiration as to its wrong and its right. Truly he succeeds that purifies it and he fails that corrupts it."[Ash-Shams 91:7-10] Qur'an is very emphatic that those who choose the disparate paths cannot be alike, either here or in the hereafter: "Shall We treat those who believe and do good works as those who spread corruption in the earth; shall We treat the pious as the wicked?" [Sad 38:28] "Is he who is a believer like unto him who is an evil-liver? They are not alike." [As-Sajda 32:18] "Is then one who does know that that which has been revealed unto you (O Muhammad), from your Lord is the Truth, like one who is blind?" [Ar-Rad 13:19] "The Day when Man shall remember all that he strove for, and Hell-Fire shall be placed in full view for him who sees. Then, for such as had transgressed all bounds, and had preferred the life of this world, the abode will be Hell-Fire; and for such as had entertained the fear of standing before their Lord and had restrained their soul

from lower desires, their abode will be the Garden." [An-Naziat 79:35-41] It is, then, for each one of us to make up our mind regarding our destination and to check whether we are moving in its direction. Of course, the choice would not be difficult if we were only looking at the destination. No one in his right mind would choose Hell over Heaven or eternal failure over success. But the eternal success requires us to go uphill. It takes effort and patience. The journey to hell, on the other hand, is downhill. One can just slide to it. And so, weak and prone to temptations that we are, we slip. That slip alone would not be that much of a problem, because one can also recover from it through repentance. The real problem occurs when we lose all sense of direction and purpose and start thinking that our fall is our rise.

To complicate matters further, today big outside forces are also busy at work to smooth our slide and cheer us at our fall. It is a juggernaut of unbelievable proportions and unprecedented wickedness. The television and music videos, present everywhere and all the time, are part of it. The UN Social Action Program and its plans for "development" and "empowerment" are part of it. The various NGOs working for "Human rights", "Women's rights", or whatever rights, are part of it. All those propaganda pieces that praise "moderates" and demonize "fundamentalists" are part of it.

Of course none of that can do any harm to us if we are willing to cut through the haze and see things for what they are. It is Allah's promise that both paths will remain open to us. It is our choice. The young Palestinian man who walks a mile to the mosque three to five times a day has made his choice. So have thousands upon thousands of others like him in the Ummah who have decided to shun evil and follow the path of piety and righteousness. So can the millions of others who are just wandering around.

Let us remember: we cannot get to the high ground by taking the low road. We cannot win our Creator's pleasure by disobeying Him. We cannot enter Paradise by being ambivalent about it.

The clash between the two lifestyles here is actually the clash between two afterlives. And the choice is ours.

Making a Mockery of the book of Allah Sighting the new moon of Ramadan plunged my soul into a fit of ecstasy and heightened elation. The month of forbearance, restraint and divine succour had finally marked its presence to purge us out of the deep echelons of hatred, animosity, egocentricity and vicious demeanour. The similitude can be coined as such of a droughted piece of land lavishing obsessively for multitude of clouds which would scintillate the barren land with a few drops of rain, therby quenching its thirst and enabling it to produce grains and cereals.

Our life resembles the similitude of a barren land. In pursue to fulfil our materialistic and avaricious whims we trample all virtues of God consciousness and at times even engross in libertine profligacy’s. The Month Of Ramadan is akin the glad tidings of rain which sprouts forth grains from the barren land. The Month of Ramadan bears the glad tidings of God’s infinite mercy and gratuitousness. It offers a chance to all of us to peek into our inner selves, and to fortify and disinfect our soul against the satanic elements of Jealousy, apathy, covetousness, odium and revulsion. With sincere conviction and a deep sense of reverence i prepared myself for a shot at the paradisiacal entity Ar Rayyan. As the Imam raised the cries of Allahu Akbar signalling the beginning of the taraweeh prayers, i made a resolute determination to listen attentively to the Taraweeh proceedings, with rapt attention. As Allah says:“When the Quran is read, listen to it with attention, and hold your peace; that you may receive mercy” Quran 7:204 Come the 4th Rakaah, my resolve was shattered, largely due to my own inability to grasp the essence of the Quran. Come the 8th Rakaah, i was twitching and tingling my limbs. I left the Masjid disgusted and aghast at the weakness of my faith and resolve. The burden of my dejected conscience was lessened by the melancholic and resonating recitation of Taraweeh from the grand Mosque, Masjid Al Haram in Makkah. Such melancholic voices which would turn stones into wax, accenture which spellbound the listeners- Quranic recitation par excellence. I kept listening to their recitation and kept wondering “Why am i not able to muster the same amount of attentiveness in the Taraweeh salah in my masjid?”. After pondering meticulously over the whole matter, i finally struck the right chord.

The Taraweeh prayers are one of the most highly revered and recommended prayers in the holy month of Ramadan. During the caliphate of Hadrat Umar, by the popular consensus of the Ummah, the taraweeh prayers were stipulated as 20 rakaah, with 5 periods of quarterly momentarily rest periods. Subsequently, this practice was continued fervourously throughout the Islamic empire. Mosques were adorned with the reverberating and soul rendering recitation of the holy Quran, covering the length and breadth of the holy month.

However, the taraweeh congregations of our era are contrastingly different then the ways of the Salaf As Saliheen. We boast of revering the Quran, so much so that we have invented obscure ways to venerate the Quran such as, placing it on a high shelf, or evade from reading the Quran behind a person’s backside. The fateful paradox is that we have forfeited the fundamental essence of the Quran, neither do we bother to read it, nor to understand and imply it’s core values in our daily ordinances and nor do we accept the Quran as a judge in our daily squabbles and disputes. Muslims woefully lack a staunch faith in the Divine origin of the Qur’an. Allah says …truly, those who have inherited the Book after them are in suspicious (disquieting) doubt concerning it. (Al-Shura 42:14) This lack of faith is the reason why we neither find any reverence for the Qur’an in our hearts, nor feel inclined to study it, nor evince any interest in pondering over its meaning, nor ever think of seeking its guidance in conducting our lives.

To suit our whimsical desires and sordid passions, we have adopted a similarly lack lustrous approach regarding the recitation of the holy

Quran during the Taraweeh prayers. Majority of the people set predetermined limits stipulating the number of days in which the Quran has to be completed. These obscure and oblivious limits can range from being as low as 3 days to a maximum period of 27 days.

Quran is recited with such swift and hasty Accenture which makes it almost impossible for the congregation to grasp the subject matter of the Quran. As a result of such lengthy and cold hearted recitation, one can witness people twiddling and maintaining a fidgety posture during the taraweeh salah, many of them sit through the first raakaah, only to stand up during ruku!. The results are detrimental to ourselves only, we are left berift and bereaved of the blessings of the Quran and neither will it intercede for us on the day of resurrection. We make apocryphal and mundane claims regarding our affinity and attachment with the Quran, whereas on face value we openly mock and flout divine dictum by hastening the completion of Taraweeh obligations. In course of swiftly and speedily reciting the Quran, we also strangulate the Khushoo and Khuzoo of Salah, thereby capitulating the very quintessence of Salah. We conceive taraweeh as a burden, which must be discharged disregarding the etiquettes of the Quran. On the contrary, Allah, glorified be he forbids us to hasten the recitation of the Quran …do not be in haste for the Qur’an…. (Taha 20:114) And do not move your tongue quickly (in trying to memorize the Revelation) to make haste therewith. (Al-Qiyamah 75:16).

The Messenger Of Allah SAW said Adorn the Qur’an with your voices. (Narrated by Abu Daud & Nasai) One who does not recite the Qur’an in a melodious voice is not from us!

(Narrated by Abu Daud) The need is to refrain from using the Quran to suit your own capricious needs, to read it and recite it in a melodious voice, to comprehend over it’s connotation and to imply it’s injunctions in our daily ordinances, and last but not the least to promulgate and apprise others of the teachings of the Quran.

If we follow this course of action, Insha Allah we shall be able to competently discharge the Haqq of Quran and earn the divine grace and pleasure of Allah
