2011 Br Empul ammo se T

he Elec Become tric Motorcyc le s Pract ical! With manufacturing gearing up across the world, the global push to go green, and big tax incentives available here in the US for electric vehicles, we thought it was time to mention the growing electric motorcycle here in Biker101 Magazine. There are several players in the market, but American company Brammo Electric Sportbikes out of Ashland, Oregon seems to be leading the pack. Check out their latest production bikes set to be available in early 2011. In what is being credited as the most viable series of electric sportbikes produced to date. Brammo’s founder Craig Bramscher announced today that its “game changing” 100 mph-plus “Empulse” street fighter will be more than evolutionary, and is in his view, “revolutionary” than any other Electric Motorcycle to date, and the bikes certainly do have some great stats to start with. Capable of speeds well over 100mph, The Empulse “trio” will share the same 56.25-inch wheelbase rolling platform and a liquid-cooled, brushless AC motor putting out an estimated 50 hp and 59 ft-lbs of torque, and according to Brammo, the use of newly-designed proprietary high energy density batteries as the key. Based on running prototypes, the Empulse 6.0, will

offer an estimated 60-mile range, the Empulse 8.0, an estimated 80 mile range and the Empulse 10.0 is said to deliver the magic 100-mile ride on a single charge . The bikes have estimated curb weights ranging from of 370 lbs up to 410 lbs for the 10.0, and they are to be priced in order of performance at $9,995, $11,995, and $13,995. The Empulse series will also will be the first liquidcooled production electric motorcycle, and be the fist bike to incorporate Brammo’s innovative Brammo Digital Drivetrain and Brammo Power™ vehicle management system. Avoiding Accidents The Basics of Motorcycle Alertness – We can all use a reminder from time to time.

The most common accident experienced by bikers are collisions at intersections, collisions while overtaking other vehicles, loss of control due to a surprise occurrence & failing to properly navigate a curve in the road. The natural tendency for more experienced bikers is to lower our guard and approach our riding in a more relaxed mind frame. Enjoying the motorcycling experience is what we all desire, but we must always remember that minimizing the risk of potentially life threatening situations comes down to developing a consistent mental state of alertness by being aware of the potential dangers, reading the road ahead, predicting other road users’ intentions, and generally being alert enough to prospective hazards. When riding in the Mountains or out on back roads, look for clues to the way a curve in the road is going to run. Utilize available visual cues such as tree lines, phone poles or other hedges and geographic clues as gauges. When on busy city streets, watching for cars pulling out from curves,

10

10.

intersections, switching lanes, and other areas should be your focus. Look for cues that they are going to pull out such as the driver’s hands moving on the steering wheel or the wheels starting to rotate. With just two small tire contact points, respect for the road surfaces is paramount. Poor weather, oil slicks, manholes, mud and painted road surfaces can get you. Remember to be alert at all times, see a familiar pattern here? You should be particularly careful in areas where there is road construction and other hazard producing situations. Another clue is to watch out for oncoming traffic with headlights blazing or dark clouds. You could be heading for bad weather. …Remember knowledge is protection! Safety Tip: The safest way to ride through traffic is to go slightly faster than it. The key word here is “slightly”. We are not advocating flying through traffic. By doing this, the relative difference in speed between you and the cars around you will reduce you getting stuck in blind spots and the slight speed increase will actually draw attention to you.

Zane Builds InZane Bike

Having been around the motorcycle industry for years and associated with some of the best, Zane of WT Customs likes to let his work speak for itself. Zane, who is very active in the Atlanta area Motorcycle scene, has just completed what I call the PBR Bike. He hasn’t given the bike a name..that’s just not his style. When it comes to old school hand craftsmanship you cannot go wrong with WT Customs.

Legacy iet Nam For A G Deliver GreVaets & t reat Ca use! Jam

The Biker101 Crew headed down to Angel city to the July Jam presented by ABATE of GA, the Viet Nam Vets & Legacy Vets. We got there mid afternoon and though the heat kept some away, those that were there know this was a great party, complete with all of the irreverence you would hope for in a bike rally. Throughout the day there were motorcycle skill games, music, vendors and a crowd of bikers of all ages that were there to enjoy themselves. That evening the bands got to playing and the crowd got to dancing. Then someone drug out a small pool and a water hose‌ .In the end the July Jam had a great vibe and with the support of two great clubs, ABATE of GA, and word of mouth from the lucky ones that were there we expect to see this annual event grow!

We appreciated the fun (and truthfully wish we could have stayed longer) but we also want to note the reverence that this group demonstrated for our missing soldiers in their ceremony and 21 gun salute. Well done guys‌ It sent chills down my spine!

Step back in time to the 1940’s era that gave birth to pin up girls, American patriotism, military legends and ultimately the birth of the American motorcycle culture. Come with us to the 57th Fighter Group Restaurant on the runway of DeKalb Peachtree Airport in Chamblee. These guys are all about our military vets and have a wall to back it up that you will have to see to believe. As military vets make up a large portion of our readership, we thought the 57th would be a great place tell you about this month. But military vet or not, the 57th is a great stop for anyone on 2 wheels or 4! At the 57th, you are immediately taken back in time as soon as you turn into the lot. After winding down a drive full of vintage military trucks, equipment and planes, you are swept away into a time when things were different. Set inside a replica of a burned out World War 2 style bunker. Set right on the taxiway at Dekalb Peachtree Airport. This great trip back in time offers casual dining during the day and many Atlantan’s will tell you it makes a great place for date night and offers everything from formal dining to a great large outdoor patio to a bar complete with full size dance floor! The food! They have a menu to fit your appetite no matter the occasion or your mood! They offer casual fair at lunch and in the bar area, and more creative items

in the main dining area. Whether you are in the mood for a few drinks, a simple burger and fries, a great American steak or an inspired pasta dish, you will not be disappointed in the 57th. Bring the family or bring your riding buddies… bring your date or come on your anniversary…Relax on the patio, kick up your heels on the dance floor or come for a romantic dinner. The 57th has it all and they pull it all off in style! The Biker101 Crew can’t wait to go back! The 57th was the setting for the July 2010 Biker101 Patriotic cover and bike of the month review.
