There are numerous, varied private galleries in Bilbao covering a wide range of trends, genres and modes. All these galleries, however, stand out for their determined focus on contemporary art. The following is a summary of some of the most important galleries in the city.

The Juan Manuel Lumbreras Gallery specialises in contemporary art, and has a particularly ample paint catalogue. Located at 3, Henao Street, Juan Manuel Lumbreras has two floors, each of which hosts monthly exhibitions.
Founded in 1984, sells works by Basque artists from the period between 1850 and 1936. In addition, it exhibits works from the 1960's generation of abstract artists (OTEIZA, CHILLIDA, BALERDI, ARIAS, AMEZTOY and ZUMETA) and a small, but select group of artists from the Historic Vanguard and the Paris School.
PhotoGallery is located at 20 Juan de Ajuriaguerra Street. It is a venue intended for a young audience, specialising in contemporary photography, with a catalogue of artists whose work shares a common interest in reflecting on this artistic genre.
Vanguardia One of the veterans on the Bilbao scene, a visit to the Vanguardia Gallery is a must in order to know the latest trends in contemporary creativity in our city. Local and international artists set up exhibits with a strong contemporary flavour.
Carreras MĂşgica Located at 10 Henao Street, the old Colon XVI Gallery was renamed Carreras Mugica in 2007. It has a catalogue of young local and international artists combined with great names from the history of 20th century art like CHILLIDA or Richard SERRA.
Espacio Marzana
Espacio Abisal
One of the most recent galleries to open in Bilbao, Espacio Marzana is located on the dock of the same name, in the Old Bilbao-Bilbao la Vieja District. Its catalogue of artists, specialising in emerging art, is particularly interesting.
This independent, not-for-profit venue is coordinated by a collective of artists, and a mustsee if you want to get your finger on the pulse of contemporary creativity in Bilbao.
Windsord Kulturgintza Located at 12 Ajuriaguerra Street, Windsord Kulturgintza is one of the most long-standing galleries on the Bilbao art scene. Specialising in contemporary Basque art, the most important names in Basque art of the last 25 years have exhibited in this venue.
SC Gallery
Kalao This small locale in Ajuriaguerra Street specialises in both tribal and contemporary African art, serving as a means of discovering art from Black Africa.
ESPACIO ABISAL
Located at 4 Cortes Street, SC Gallery came into being with the vocation of supporting young plastic artists whose work encompasses the most cutting-edge trends on the current artistic scene.
