ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE PROGRAMME
T
he Culture and Education Department, through Bilbao’s Stage Resource Centre, BilbaoEszena, has announced the 2012 call for participants in the “Artistas en Residencia” (Artists in Residency) scheme, an initiative it launched three years ago in order to foster and promote research and innovation in the field of stage arts in the City. The companies or artists who wish to take part in the current edition have until 30 March to submit their projects. BilbaoEszena will select five art projects, whose main aims are the creation, research and dissemination of stage proposals. New for this edition, one of the residencies will be reserved for an arts project in which the results to be presented to the public and/or other artists are exclusively
in Euskera. Likewise by using this language, the general score will rise from 10% to 20%, in order to encourage its usage in contemporary stage arts. The main aim of the “Artistas en Residencia” scheme is to provide support, offering resources (financial, technical, training and accompaniment, etc.), to all those arts entities or individual artists who wish to undertake a creation or research process in the stage arts, particularly those more closely related to the new scenes, which have a specific interest and a multidisciplinary nature, the main fulcrums of which are theatre and dance, without ruling out projects more related to traditional disciplines such as street theatre or the circus.
BILBAO ESZENA
Via this scheme, organised through BilbaoEszena, Bilbao City Council aims to foster and support those initiatives directed at stimulating artistic creation, together with enhancing those research and development processes the main vector of which is the stage, and in particular those related to new drama productions. Furthermore, there is a third objective aimed at locating and retaining creative talent, fostering access to the productive development process. PARTICIPANTS
A
his scheme is open for the submission of projects by any group or individual artist over the age of 18 interested in collaborating with BilbaoEszena in creation or contemporary stage research work. Participants may be of any nationality, but in addition to the residency to be undertaken in Euskera, at least two of the remaining residencies will be awarded to proposals by Basque artists.

When selecting these projects, the panel took into account their multidisciplinary nature and their innovative approach to the research and development of new stage environments as well as their artistic interest.
