Agile approach The ability of a business to remain agile and innovative can mean the difference between thriving and disappearing overnight. We only need to look to the likes of Uber for personal transport, Google Maps for navigation, and Alibaba for online international trade to understand the future of business. We have all witnessed the way in which a product line, or even an entire market, is turned on its head overnight. Linfox Customer conference At our recent Customer Conference, cyber security and industry innovation were firmly on the agenda. The storage and protection of sensitive data was of particular interest, along with the pace of innovation and what this means for the logistics industry. We are focused on ensuring our data use and storage is not only fit-forpurpose, but also that our customers fully benefit from new services being introduced by our business. This includes SAP HANA which can analyse millions of lines of data, then instantaneously convert it into readily useable information at the fingertips of our operational teams.
Sustainability Innovation not only comes through technology. It was eight years ago through the GreenFox sustainability program that Linfox set an ambitious target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 50 per cent by 2015 based on 2006/07 levels. We are currently 3.5 per cent short of our 2015 emissions reduction target, however, I remain extremely committed to ensure our 50 per cent target is met in the near future. Our success to date, involving our business and customers, has included new truck and tyre technologies, smarter warehouse lighting systems and eco driver education programs. The journey continues with increased use of renewable fuels, energy efficient lighting and solar energy.
Our sustainability journey continues with increased use of renewable fuels, energy efficient lighting and solar energy.

A New Year Our business has arrived at the place it is today through the sheer hard work and ‘dogged’ determination of our people. We are grateful for the contribution they all make at Linfox and I thank them for operating as safely as humanly possible and delivering the highest level of customer service attainable We do not take for granted the fact that our customers entrust their business transportation and warehouse operations to us. My thanks to you for your ongoing and highly valued partnership with Linfox. As we pause and reflect over the Christmas period on the past year, I personally wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in 2016.

CEO Australia and New Zealand message
A new direction
In the last six months, we have spent considerable time analysing industry and economic trends to gain a strong understanding of the future operating environment faced by our customers. It is this research that has formed the basis of our Linfox 2020 strategy and a new direction for our business. The 2020 strategy brings a renewed focus on innovation, diversification, and the need to move to a more cross-functional structure with greater ability to share expertise, resources and infrastructure. Three key objectives form the basis of the strategy. Firstly, we remain committed to achieving operational excellence by striving to lead the industry in safety, quality, efficiency and effectiveness. Secondly, we will continue to build strong, productive relationships with our customers and partner with capability. And thirdly, we will significantly boost our focus on innovation to create agile and forward-thinking supply chain solutions. I am enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead for our business and the role that we will play in yours.
Peak season safety Peak season is a busy and demanding time for our operations. I am often in awe at the volume of goods that move through our warehouses and vehicles during this period and the efficiency and professionalism with which it occurs. But while productivity and efficiency are critical factors in a successful supply chain, they should never come at the cost of safety. It is our firm belief that one person injured at work is one too many. Our Peak Season Safety campaign, launched in early November, is a timely reminder that no matter how busy we are, safety must remain our number one priority. The sharp improvement to our peak season safety record year-on-year proves the worth of this important campaign and its continued relevance to our operations. Our Peak Season Safety campaign is detailed further on page 18.
Awards season Our Australian and New Zealand operations have achieved numerous awards of late. In the last two months, Linfox and our people were proud recipients of the Coles Logistics Network DC Team of the Year Award, the Countdown Driver of the Year Award and DuluxGroup Supplier of the Year Award. While our work is rewarding in itself, we are always honoured when respected companies recognise our efforts. I congratulate our teams for being recognised in this way and thank our customers for giving us the opportunity to add value to their business. Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. I wish you a safe and happy festive season.

CEO Asia message
Investing in our network Linfox Asia continued its growth path in 2015, strengthening existing customer relationships and forming new partnerships.
In November we partnered with YUM! Thailand to officially open a new 10,000m2 chilled distribution centre outside Bangkok to service its KFC and Pizza Hut restaurant chains. The custom built facility, to be managed and operated by Linfox, will support YUM! Thailand’s plans to open 800 KFC stores by 2020. We’re pleased to play this crucial role in supporting YUM! Thailand’s expansion plans. The partnership is further detailed on page 10. In Malaysia, we renewed our work with global industrial gas producer Linde Group. Our already strong delivery network for Linde will be further enhanced with the introduction of a 29-strong fleet to be operational across peninsular Malaysia by the end of the year. Also in Malaysia, our customer Giant is benefitting from our investment in 14 custom-built vehicles to support deliveries to its extensive network of supermarket and hypermarkets.
We recognise that an engaged workforce is a productive and dedicated workforce.
6
This continued investment in fleet and infrastructure demonstrates our commitment to supporting our customers’ growth objectives and developing strong logistics networks throughout the region. People and development We recognise that an engaged workforce is a productive and dedicated workforce. Recognition is an important part of employee engagement. This means acknowledging when someone is doing a terrific job, rewarding their efforts and telling others about it. This year we held our inaugural Linfox Chairman, CEO and Graduate of the Year Awards ceremony in Thailand. I was joined by Linfox Chairman Peter Fox, International Board members Simon Crean and Bill Kelty as well as Country Managers from across our operations to recognise the people who are making an outstanding contribution to our business. You can read more about the Awards on page 5.
Safety focus For the second year running, Linfox Vietnam has won the coveted BlueScope Steel Vietnam (BSV) Contractor Safety Award. Our reputation for safety leadership is no accident. Our team has partnered closely with BlueScope to improve safety standards and led the introduction of practical initiatives to improve safety. This commitment to safety will continue to be front of mind as we head into our recently launched Peak Season 2015/16 campaign. Aligning with popular Asian festivals and the resulting spike in our operations, the campaign supports our people to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our colleagues, customers and the wider community during our busiest periods. I wish all our customers a safe and happy new year and look forward to a productive 2016..
Gabby Costigan CEO Asia

The GreenFox Sustainability program has led to a significant reduction in emissions intensity.
In 2007, Linfox embarked on an ambitious journey to reduce its environmental impact, setting a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 50 per cent by 2015 based on 2006/07 levels. “Thanks to the remarkable and sustained efforts of our people and customers, Linfox has achieved a 46.5 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions intensity at the end of September 2015,” said Linfox Australia and New Zealand CEO Annette Carey. “Improved energy efficiency and energy management initiatives allow Linfox to minimise our environmental impact and deliver better solutions to our customers.

“While we still have some way to go, I am proud of the real and substantial change instituted by our team and the continued benefits for the environment, our customers, our people and the wider community. “Well done to the Safety and Sustainability team and the broader Human Resources business unit for driving this significant piece of work.” Through the GreenFox program, Linfox has implemented a range of initiatives, including the adoption of new truck and tyre technologies, efficient warehouse lighting systems, eco driver education programs and, best practise equipment use.
Beyond 2015 Beyond 2015, Linfox will build on the Green Fox program to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency across the business. The Linfox 2020 Sustainability Strategy marks a renewed focus on sustainability and the continuation of Linfox’s sustainability journey. As part of this plan, Linfox will transition to a multi-focus target and increase its use of renewable fuels, energy efficient lighting and solar energy. The plan will also outline key areas of focus to continue greenhouse gas emission reductions.

Linfox Malaysia extends services for Linde
Linfox Malaysia has secured a five year extension to continue transport and delivery services for one of its largest customers, Linde Malaysia.
This new addition to the Linfox Malaysia fleet will provide a dedicated service for Linde.
The global Linde Group is a world leader in industrial gases with over 65,000 employees in more than 100 countries. To service the next phase of the Linde business, Linfox will invest in a rejuvenated fleet of 29 new vehicles, to be operational across peninsular Malaysia by the end of 2015. Country Manager, Saj Iqbal says the new fleet will further enhance Linfox’s ability to transport and deliver Linde Malaysia’s broad range of packaged gas products, which includes industrial gas cylinders of varying size and content.
16
“The new fleet was chosen by our Linfox team in close collaboration with Linde, to ensure it is leveraged for maximum efficiency and value,” said Saj. “The implementation of the new fleet was achieved in a small window to ensure operations continued to run smoothly.” Linfox Malaysia operates 24 hours, seven days a week servicing both short (10-50 km) and long (up to 400 km) distance delivery points. “The new fleet will deliver better return on investment in terms of additional distance, increased payload capacity per trip, lower maintenance costs and
improved truck availability,” said Saj. “Consistent with the Linfox Vision Zero safety commitment, all new vehicles include high-tech safety and security features. “Linde is a customer with high operational and safety standards and we are proud to partner with a global enterprise that boasts such an established and successful history in Malaysia.”

Coles RDC wins Team of theYear
The Linfox-managed Coles Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) in Truganina, Victoria was chosen from 18 nominated distribution centres to win the Coles Logistics Network ‘DC Team of the Year’ Award 2015. RDC Manager, Phill McInerney takes great pride in this accolade, awarded to his team in August. “This is a true reflection of the dedication and hard work of everyone in the Linfox team,” said Phill. “The award recognises remarkable process improvements in the RDC, resulting from development in teamwork, productivity and site safety. These improvements have delivered significant efficiencies for both businesses.”
The Coles RDC in Truganina is an impressive operation. The 80,000m2 state-of-the-art facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, predominantly handling fast moving ambient grocery items. “Visit the RDC during any given week and you’ll see a hive of activity. Our team works hard to manage significant volumes of goods, particularly during the end-of-year peak season,” said Phill.
General Manager Retail, Kris Talevski explains that advice and guidance from Linfox has helped Coles to add considerable value to the site’s operation. “By delivering benchmark warehousing to Coles, we have built a solid platform to develop an ongoing and mutually beneficial partnership model.”

Shining a light on efficiency
Linfox has invested in an intelligent lighting system upgrade at its Arnott’s site in Virginia, Queensland, with the potential for up to 90 per cent energy savings.
The Linfox Arnott’s site in Virginia, Qld.
Linfox Sustainability Manager, Bo Christensen explains how light-emitting diode (LED) lighting solutions present an opportunity to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions for Linfox and its customers. “Industrial lighting is a significant cost both for organisations and the environment, particularly large industrial sites and those that run 24-seven with traditional, high-wattage lighting.
18
“Lighting can represent at least 25 to 50 per cent of a site’s energy use, so an energy efficient lighting solution is a key opportunity to reduce energy use and create a consistent, safe and welllit work environment. Once installed, the lighting system should only require minimal oversight,” said Bo. The potential savings from this Green Fox sustainability initiative are considerable, particularly where large scale lighting is required for extended times.
“Using the most efficient, proven lighting sources is crucial. LED systems are a high-quality lighting technology with a solid future,” said Bo. “Finding long-term opportunities to maximise ongoing sustainability and ultimately reduce costs is important for us and our customers. “We are very pleased with the results achieved for Linfox and Arnott’s, and look forward to providing future savings across the Linfox portfolio.”

Enlightening results “It’s clear our people are embracing the new lighting upgrade. The enhanced quality and uniformity improves the working environment, making everyone’s job easier,” said Linfox Arnott’s Site Manager, Jeffrey Brown. As part of the Green Fox sustainability program, the installation at the Linfox Arnott’s site detects both physical movement and daylight in order to calibrate lighting for maximum efficiency. “This is truly smart technology in that the lighting levels are highly customisable and can respond to changing client circumstances and operations,” said Jeffrey. “The lighting system analyses performance, sets optimum lighting control and provides on demand, customised data and reporting to capture usage and savings.” In addition to energy savings, the reduced need for maintenance further reinforces the cost effectiveness of this LED technology. “Unlike traditional lighting systems which can cost tens of thousands of dollars every year to maintain, LED has a significantly longer lamp life,” said Jeffrey.
19
Safety first during peak season As always, summer is a peak time for Linfox. End of year trading means higher demand for goods and a crucial need for customer warehouses to be well stocked and regularly replenished. Those in the Australian and New Zealand retail and FMCG sectors in particular experience a significant uplift in activity during peak season, which begins in November and continues until the end of January. President, FMCG Greg Thomas explains the importance of reinforcing Linfox’s safety messages during this busy time. “Increased seasonal workload in warehouses and changed conditions on the roads brings increased risk, however we believe all incidents are preventable,” said Greg.
“Safety is a ‘business as usual’ activity at Linfox throughout the year, but we heavily reinforce our safety principles during peak season with a comprehensive campaign across all sites in Australia and New Zealand,” he said. “The need to be safety-conscious applies regardless of whether our work is in a warehouse, as a driver, or in an office.
“Weekly safety messages are delivered through engaging and siterelevant ‘toolbox talks’, posters and other forums addressing topics like safe driving, health and wellbeing, fatigue, load restraint and manual handling,” he said. Multi-lingual Peak Season Safety campaigns also run across all Linfox sites in Asia to coincide with key local holiday periods and busy times.

Malaysia: growing the fleet
Linfox Malaysia recently commissioned fourteen new bespoke Isuzu and Hino trucks to further enhance service capacity for its largest customer, Giant.
Centre: Giant Supply Chain Director, Joe Dybell, CEO Linfox Asia, Gabby Costigan, Country Manager Linfox Malaysia, Saj Iqbal with staff from Linfox, Giant and hosts Hino and Isuzu.
Owned by GCH Retail, the leading supermarket and hypermarket chain has serviced customers in Malaysia since 1944. Malaysia Country Manager, Saj Iqbal explains that the fleet extension will build Linfox’s delivery capability, support Giant’s growth and add value to an already strong logistics network. “Linfox has proudly serviced Giant since 2013. We now deliver ambient goods to 126 of their stores as part of a strong partnership, with our dedicated fleet more than doubling during that time,” said Saj.
This extension adds to an already robust fleet, with the addition of two light and two medium-duty vehicles offering improved efficiency, safety and enhanced environmental sustainability. “As we take advantage of the efficiencies and economies of scale offered by this additional transport capability, our biggest customer, our drivers and the environment will reap the benefits with vehicle performance and safety our top priorities,” said Saj. The trucks were delivered to Linfox Asia CEO, Gabby Costigan and Giant Supply Chain Director, Joe Dybell at the Giant distribution centre in Sepang, Selangor.
“Our customers can depend on Isuzu and Hino reliability. We’re pleased Linfox and Giant have worked in partnership to refresh the Malaysian fleet with our vehicles, as we know they’ll provide superior performance and safety,” said Gabby. The fleet extension has also created local employment opportunities, adding 18 new driver roles within Linfox Malaysia.

What is a customer? Customers are the most important people ever in this office...in person or by mail. Customers are not dependent on us…we are dependent on them. Customers are not an interruption of our work, they are the purpose of it. We are not doing them a favour by serving them, they are doing us a favour by giving us the opportunity to do so. Customers are not outsiders to our business, they are part of it. Customers are not cold statistics, they are flesh and blood human beings with feelings and emotions like your own, and with biases and prejudices. Customers are not people to argue with or match wits with. Nobody ever won an argument with a customer. Customers are people who bring us their wants. It is our job to handle them profitably to them and ourselves. Source unknown
