PARADE PREVIEW: Welcome to the 2020 Parade of Homes By CHARITY DEWING • cdewing@billingsgazette.com

Helgeson Construction

This is the second in a four-part series of Parade of Homes, brought to you by the Billings Gazette and the Home Builders Association of Billings. For the following two weeks, The Billings Gazette’s “Your Home” section will feature the design work of some of the city’s top construction companies and the homes that have been selected for this year’s Parade of Home selection. In Big Sky Country, no matter how large or small, our homes are more than just a place to rest our weary heads. Our homes are often a calling card of our identities – they are our safe place, and the homes for this year’s parade truly go above and beyond what we seek to create a comfortable environment. These homes embody the phrase “staycation.”

Having your home – no matter if it is a one-bedroom apartment or five-bedroom house – should offer the ‘staycation’ factor, even if that means upgrading your bathroom or decorating your living space.

Inspiration. According to Kimberly Welzenbach, executive officer at the Home Builders Association of Billings, the average parade home is valued between $850,000 to $1.2 million – far above the average market value in Billings. While the homes are not targeted towards the typical Billings’ resident, inspiration is one of the main reason’s attendees love the Parade of Homes year after year. From paint colors, counter tops, cabinetry, bathroom upgrades and innovative ways to enhance homelife – parade goers love touring these incredible homes.

The most popular Parade of Homes design trends over the past years have been the rustic look with Western décor and materials fashioned from Montana elements like driftwood application.

“Especially today in the era of COVID, people have come to understand the challenges and necessity of being able to live and work while still enjoying the comforts of And why not invest in sincerely living your best life every family and home,” said Welzenbach. day by creating a home that offers enough solace to eliminate the need to take a vacation? Perhaps now more than Trending. “It’s been said that the only constant in life is ever, constructing a space that brings you joy is the most change. That would certainly apply to the construction and design of parade homes over the years, said Welzenbach. important aspect of the design process.

“Aside from the ‘wow factor’ parade homes bring, approximately 70 percent of attendees take the tour for décor and design ideas,” said Welzenbach.

Wells Built Homes

“Montana is often referred to as the last best place. Residents and visitors hold a unique fondness for Montana’s treasures and the Montana way of life. Homes designed with the influence of Big Sky Country are an expression of that fondness by the builder and the homeowner alike,” said Welzenbach.

1337 FISHER ISLAND PLACE

F3

BAN CONSTRUCTION

THE NINES SUBDIVISION

Modern Manor By Charity Dewing • cdewing@billingsgazette.com Ban Construction is known for epic home construction and the new build on Fisher Island Place is no exception. The two story, eye-catching home is perched amid the newly developed Nines Subdivision, blending rural living with modern marvels. The Exterior. From the outside, the home looks like a multilayer, modern phenomenon – something you’d see in a futuristic setting in a Sci-Fi movie. There are segments that are nothing but windows and smooth gray metal. Tetris tones of gray and stony white compliment Masonite lap siding and hints of masonry that pops out from a hidden courtyard in the home. The Courtyard and Patio. The U-shaped home wraps around an outdoor courtyard that feels like it is just as much part of the interior. A large pool with LED lights and water fountain that falls directly into the pool offers relaxing evening or day swims – and the pool has gradual layers of depth for children and seasoned swimmers. The courtyard’s patio area features a beautiful tiered glass fire pit with glass pearl base and barnwood siding, weaving a rustic tone in the design – which ties in nicely to the abundant corn fields and big sky surrounding the home. A large built-in barbeque and full kitchenette wet bar create plenty of opportunities to enhance hosting skills for pool parties and other celebrations. The patio also features a private bathroom, so friends and family don’t have to walk through the home with wet swimsuits.

Inside. While it looks multilayered outside, the 4,305 square foot, two-story home features four bedrooms and six bathrooms. The concept maintains the modern approach but adds homey and rustic nuances throughout to create balance. The Office. Like every room in the home, large Pella windows provide abundant light in the office area. Alderwood doors and accents compliment the oatmeal-colored walls, creating a soothing space to focus and get work done. But the best part of the office is above the desk. A geometric pattern made of Alderwood zigzags creates exceptional ceiling art – a truly inspirational accent piece when needing a little Zen. The Kitchen. Let’s talk storage space. The copious amount of cabinetry and pantry space in this kitchen is unparalleled. From floor to ceiling, beautiful cherry wood cabinets not only offer space, but bring a beautiful country vibe to the area. The granite countertops also bring in Earth tones to the room. This space takes the cake when it comes to kitchens. A 55-inch flatscreen above the large stainless-steel fridge/freezer combo make it easy to cook and watch a game without missing a beat. And then there are the little favorites that make the kitchen innovative, like the pull-out drawers for pots, pans, and utensil canisters – there is even nylon knife holders that safely store all sharp objects.

The Master Bedroom. Ban Construction always uses the signature upside down L-design with windows, the effect offers light from floor to ceiling – but what the concept really does is uses the sunlight as it rises and sets to compliment the warm tones inside the rooms. Wheat-colored walls and Alderwood treatments offer a soft and inviting atmosphere. The real treat to the master bedroom is the ensuite. With abundant Alderwood floating cabinetry – including outlets in the cabinetry, so electric toothbrushes don’t have to be on display – and a large granite vanity with his and hers sinks, complaining about storage space will never be an issue. The massive walkin shower features two mounted rain shower heads and wand. There is also a beautiful freestanding soaking tub. And of course, because it is a Ban house, the walk-in closet is beyond expectations. A large island with cabinet space, a personal washer and dryer, shelving, hanging racks and a shoewrack wall – what’s not to love?

Upstairs. Steel individual plank steps with lighting lead to the incredible second floor – and the view is unbelievable with large Pella windows overseeing the courtyard, the home and the landscape. Ideal for guests, kids, or college students who need their own space, the second floor has a full-size laundry room with an excessive amount of storage space. Each bedroom features L-shaped windows, Alderwood closets and soft colors that match the landscape, creating a comfortable ambiance. Each bedroom also has a private bathroom. The second floor also features another living space for kids or guests to have their own space to relax. Happy endings. Ban Construction is all about the finer things in life – which includes finding ways to bring family and friends together under one roof.

SILVERADO SUBDIVISION

Made to Entertain By Charity Dewing • cdewing@billingsgazette.com

The office features half glass walls, keeping the area light and airy. There are also large 406 Window treatments bringing the natural elements in on days when you may just need a little brilliance. But the most amazing aspect of the office is the incredible design work by Jessica Haynes. The accent wall features the exposed brick but behind the shapes of the continental U.S., Europe and Asia – like a world map torn from the wall to reveal red brick – now that’s inspiring. The first floor also has one of two movie theaters – yes, one of two. The first-floor movie theatre includes the exposed brick and full wet bar. And you can play the same movie in real time on both screens. So, parents can be downstairs, and kids can be upstairs watching the same movie. The first floor also features three guest bedrooms – all with their own full bathrooms and laundry rooms – talk about taking care of your guests. Second Floor. The second floor features the second and larger movie theater with barn door entrance, full wet bar and full bathroom. There is also a balcony from the second floor that looks over the kitchen and living area, so you can keep an eye on things when entertaining. Remember that balcony in the garage? Wrapping around the second-floor movie theater is an L-shaped game room for friends

and family to play a little air hockey and oldfashion arcade games. The game room is open, looking over the garage, combining the spaces. The balconies and open floor plan of the house offer an interactive opportunity for guests and host – so even if you are in another room, everyone is still kind of together. The Mother-In-Law Suite. From the garage is a separate apartment often called “mother-in-law suites” for in-laws, family, or friends to stay or rent. The 1,200 square foot, two-bedroom apartment features a full kitchen, full bathroom, and laundry room. Heated floors run throughout the space. The apartment has a more contemporary vibe – and less of the industrial appeal – with Alderwood cabinetry and laminate countertops. The apartment has personal access to the garage and personal access to the pool area and pool house. Contemporary Cornfields. Heath Olson of Bighorn Construction and Drywall said he wanted this house to walk a fine line between the industrial look and a contemporary flair. He’s done just that. The home is truly a unique haven for homeowner, family, and friends to relax and have a great time. But there is also a serene element that one cannot take for granted – just behind the property line are fields of yellow corn blowing in the Big Sky breeze. If that’s not a cherry on top, I don’t know what is.

stopper, the master ensuite. More like a spa than a bathroom, the space features a two-person bathtub and walk-in shower with wall body sprayers. Adjacent to the walk-in shower, there is a separate bonus steam shower with a glass door and sitting bench that functions as a personal sauna room. And don’t worry if you get too hot in this pampering wonderland, the master bedroom has patio access to the pool, which also features a separate sitting pool with built-in bar, and a pool house for guests to shower off before and after they swim. The master ensuite also features his and hers sinks, and a walk-in closet with a makeup vanity area. Just when you think this house cannot blow your mind more, you turn a corner and once again find amazing designs and architectural phenomena. With an industrial and modern design concept, this home breaks the mold. The kitchen area features exposed, real brickwork that looks like something you would see in one of the old restaurants in downtown Billings. Large, exposed piping runs along the ceiling emphasizing the industrial ambiance. There is balance between industrial and modern warmth throughout the home. Walnut cabinets in the kitchen bring Earth elements and tones back to the atmosphere. The kitchen features a stainless steel oven and glass door fridge. Above the open kitchen and living room combo is a steel balcony for guests to interact if they are upstairs. The living area flows from the kitchen space offering an open floorplan – ideal for entertaining when cooking a meal or making drinks but don’t want to miss out on conversation. A large floor-to-ceiling walnut fireplace ties to the Earth tones of the kitchen cabinetry, creating symmetry between the spaces.

Against the backdrop of open blue sky sits the modern marvel on Arthur Drive. The angles and pitches of the roof offer various single-sloped surfaces. Natural gray and rusty orange steel (that looks like wood) are complimented by pillars of white cultured stone. Collectively, this contemporary masterpiece is approximately 11,500 square feet with four bedrooms and six and half bathrooms – and that doesn’t count the pool house and mother-in-law suite. The Garage. Heath Olson of Bighorn Construction and Drywall was not messing around when he created this king-sized garage. With his trademark being large, functional garages, this one did not disappoint. At approximately 5,000 square feet, the garage can fit a whopping 12 vehicles. There is an additional tool area for any handy man or woman to neatly maintain a workspace. Polished concrete runs throughout the base, which also functions as a heated floor, keeping the area toasty warm to hang out or work on cars, trucks and motorcycles. But believe it or not, that’s not the eyecatcher. There is a balcony that comes from inside the house and into the garage, which morphs the garage into a livable area in many ways – but more on that later. The First Floor. Upon entering the home, a mudroom awaits to allow guests to remove shoes, jackets and purses, kids can store their backpacks, and everything else that you don’t want traipsed through the home can remain in the heat and air-controlled room. A main laundry and half bath with stained and heated concrete floors, gray modern cabinetry, black sink fixtures and white basin offer a clean and contemporary space. The master bedroom features a color-in plaster sky blue accent wall facing an ideal space to mount a flat screen for movie nights in bed – but just behind that wall is the show-

Exterior Lighting Guide Why homeowners should add more exterior light to their properties.

• Safety: Trips and falls can occur at night when trying to traverse walkways and landscapes in the dark, as it can be difficult to see rocks, stairs and uneven pavement. Outdoor lighting can illuminate pathways, entryways and other areas for safer access for homeowners and their guests. • Extend outdoor entertaining: Ample lighting can increase the amount of time one can use outdoor spaces and make them the perfect gathering spot. As autumn arrives, days become shorter. However, patios, porches and more can get extended use with lighting. • Safeguard security: A well-lit home may be less likely to be targeted by burglars than one swathed in darkness and shadows. Lights can remain on all evening or be motion-triggered. Setting lights on timers also ensures that the home is illuminated whether residents are home or not. • Create drama: Landscape lighting designers can establish focal points around the landscape and highlight the best features of a property. Uplighting in trees, silhouetting techniques to showcase plants and spotlights to show off architectural features are all options for homeowners to consider. • Add value: The experts at Parker Homescape, a landscape design service, say that exterior lighting can add roughly 30 percent to the value of a home. They also indicate that 50 percent of all home buyers say that outdoor lighting is important when buying a home. If current residents are thinking about selling, now may be the time to invest in exterior lighting.

Improving a home’s exterior may be as simple as adding more lighting to improve functionality and beauty.

COUGAR CONSTRUCTION

IRONWOOD SUBDIVISION

Funky Farmhouse By Charity Dewing • cdewing@billingsgazette.com Ironwood Subdivision has significantly grown over the last decade. Less than 10 minutes from the city, the subdivision is immersed in setting abundant with rolling hills, open sky, pastures and a rural appeal that truly calls to Big Sky living. Inside of the subdivision sits an ideal neighborhood for families and low-key living. The quiet and safe streets feel like a small town. The homes are opulent, yet humble, creating an any-town-U.S. A vibe. The Cougar Construction parade home on Autumnwood Drive is all about family living with a funky farmhouse twist. The Exterior. Outside, the home displays snowy Batten board siding, a material traditionally used for barns. Cedar post columns and ridge accents emphasize the farmhouse appeal while the iron-gray painted three-car garage adds a modern touch. The First Floor. Luxury vinyl light oak flooring runs throughout the first floor living and kitchen spaces, adding to the farmhouse feel. And where does the funk come in? Let’s start with light fixtures. Rather than fitting the mold to traditional modern appeal, the design concept at Autumnwood Drive beats to its own drum. The first guest bedroom, which could also be a great office space, features a beautiful antique pocket door from an old hotel. The original carvings and wood remain in its raw, olden form adding history and a bit of hidden splendor. The light fixture is the eye catcher

– a spider-like black chandelier that dangles in the center of the room, adding a modern and fun twist to the farmhouse concept. Large 406 Window treatments provide abundant light throughout the room and first floor. The living room, with a floor-to-ceiling smooth gray concrete fireplace and wooden floating shelves, is full of beaming light from large windows and sliding door that leads to the patio area. The center of the living space features a massive wagon wheel chandelier that looks like it belongs above a Viking dining table. The open floor plan connects living and dining space, reintroducing a modern vibe with black quartz countertops, bright white cabinetry and subway tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances, and black pendant lights above the sizeable, white quartz sitting island. The master bedroom features large windows that bring in natural light atop the light oak LVT flooring and soothing off-white wall paint. Another beautiful antique hotel door slides open to reveal the master ensuite. A large shower with glass door, white subway tile and modern black fixtures is perfect for parents who just want their own space to relax and prepare or unwind from their day. The light fixtures in this bathroom echo the vintage feel of the old hotel doors with a three-pronged wall sconce with torch bulbs. The master bathroom leads to personal access

to the main laundry room which reestablishes the farmhouse concept with white Batten board siding and wood floating shelves. The guest bathroom on the main floor very well may be the most impressive room in the house. It is completely unlike any other room. Painted a soothing olive color with a multi-colored dark, tan and light wooden flooring, the guest bathroom features another vintage find. A renovated antique dresser turned bathroom sink vanity is a pleasant showstopper. A white vessel sink basin with modern black faucet sits atop the aged, raw wood of the vanity. The body of the vanity matches the olive-green paint of the walls creating an interesting and authentic guest bath you will not see in any cookie-cutter home. The hallway leading out of the guest bath has black iron, double pronged star-shaped sconces with torch bulbs truly exhibiting that the inconsistent lighting choices are intentional and by extension, consistently adding

funky, fun flair at every corner. The Basement. It is all about the kids down here. The basement opens into a sizeable gaming area and entertainment mecca complete with theatre wall. The space is white and doesn’t feel like a basement thanks to the large 406 Window treatments that allow plenty of natural light. Bedrooms include large closets with ample shelving and black, modern handles. While the kids may not get personal bathrooms, one large bathroom space features two separate vanities – and separate mirrors – with lots of drawer and shelving space to spread out. Inside and Out. The modest yard features a ground-level trampoline, patio space and fire pit for entertaining, and a small courtyard. Geared towards family life and joyful living, this home is about the special things that remind us to be a little different and lighten up – pun, intended.

this open-floor plan design. The white shiplap wall in the living space offers surface variation alongside the white and gray textured front of the off-center fireplace. The Master Bedroom. White, open, and airy, the master bedroom maintains the modern appeal with a black basket pendant chandelier and white stripe molds along the wall. The master ensuite has black honeycomb flooring with white grout that proceeds into the shower flooring and accents the shower wall. Modern, two-sphere globe pendant chandeliers hang above his and hers sinks, emphasizing the contemporary atmosphere.

Function and Fun. A sizeable laundry/ mudroom provides ample cabinetry for storage of cleaning supplies, towels, and play clothes. A small bench area with white shiplap walls provide a space for shoes, backpacks and other items you don’t want trudged through your home. Downstairs, a theater area with gaming room and two additional bedrooms offer room for kids to have their own living space to dance, create, play and watch movies. A Quiet Life. Developed in a troublefree, peaceful suburban setting, the home on Mountain Range Court grants the safety of small town living only minutes from busy city life.

IMAGE BUILDERS

THE NINES SUBDIVISION

Staycation Nation By Charity Dewing • cdewing@billingsgazette.com The Master Bedroom. It feels like each room of this home is trying to compete with the next. The master bedroom features laterally stacked windows that take up a whole wall. The beautiful and abundant light fills the room and creates a sense of being at a high-end resort. Personal patio access only adds to the resort ambiance. The ensuite features a massive walk-in shower with double shower head, subway tile, and pebble flooring. The enormous space also has his and hers vanity areas with oversized counters and plentiful cabinetry space. A large walk-in closet with abundant shelving, baskets, and hanging racks makes staying organized easy – there is also a personal washer and dryer set. But the best part of the entire ensuite is the massive, freestanding soaking tub next to floor-to- ceiling Pella windows. With fields of corn and large open sky in the setting, privacy is not an issue. Grab a glass of wine, candles, watch the

night sky and enjoy a relaxing and restorative soak every night. Entertainment Mecca. Parade homes always have impressive entertainment rooms, but this one takes the cake – and since the home is one-level, everything is connected and easily accessible. The large south wing of the home features a massive theater area, a full wet bar, and a golf green simulation – you can also play football, baseball, and soccer. The entertainment area features a beautiful black and white floral tile. The area is large enough

to skate, dance, and host great kid (or adult) parties. The room also features a bathroom and direct access to the pool and patio. Having it all. It is hard to encapsulate everything we desire in our homes, and in the wake of COVID-19, the meaning of home has changed. Image Builders has found a way to balance home, fun, and relaxation – a place for family and friends to become joyful. Wrapped by fields of corn, the property seems almost too good to be true – offering a break from the world outside, and that is truly what home should do.

Once again, Image Builders has created a home that offers so many amenities, there is really no reason to go anywhere else for entertainment, relaxation, or vacation. The exterior design has a bold, unique, and exotic appeal that isn’t seen much in Montana. Massive, white stone pillars with a steel-grate canopy leads to a landscape garden area complete with three waterfall features that are right next to a wall of floor-toceiling windows. Massive, glass and wood shutter-style French doors emphasize the exotic appeal of the entryway. Black stucco and lapboard siding make the white stone along the garden area and woodfinish garage doors pop with an array of texture and contemporary colors. The three-car, heated garage includes a vault for items you want to keep safe or out of the hands of children. Through the garage is a locker-style mud room with Alderwood bench and coat rack, creating a sophisticated first impression. Engineered oak flooring compliments the Alderwood doors and accents that continue through the house. The variation of smooth wood establishes a sleek, modern, yet elemental appeal. The Kitchen. When entering the kitchen from the laundry area, laminate wood hides a massive pantry, brilliantly maintaining an impressive modern flow. The oversized kitchen features a giant quartz-topped island, wood cabinet panel fridge, free-standing oven, and cast iron undermount sink. Light wood accents pop against a pearly white backsplash wall that really emphasizes the modern, simple, yet extravagant look. The Living Room. Now this is a grand room. A ventless, open fireplace, with granite-like tile welcomes guests into this contemporary cornucopia. A floor-to-ceiling Pella window wall brings the outdoors into the home, inviting the evening sky. The living room also features a tray ceiling and modern spin on a slotted wood ‘70s inspired accent wall. The living room also leads to the incredible patio area with built-in barbeque and griddle, a sunken patio seating area with flatscreen TV, pool, hot tub, and pool house. At 4,900 square feet, the one-level home is thoughtfully designed to make the large space cohesive and cozy.

4910 VERDE LANE

LC CUSTOM HOMES

VERDE MEADOWS SUBDIVISION

Lavish, Loving, Living By Charity Dewing • cdewing@billingsgazette.com Like the adage “You can never have too much of a good thing,” the new build by LC Custom Homes on Verde Lane is all about making home the first best place to be. Outside, the home’s exterior is a collage of well-fitting textures and colors. The exterior siding has an undeniable “wow factor” with beautiful dark tones of stonework that pops out against two-toned Hardywood. Smooth, black EIFS stucco adds yet another textural delight that creates a modern and exotic appeal. Even the sidewalk was thoughtfully designed as slats of concrete float atop pebble bedding, leading to the main entrance of the home. The front entry features a three-tier water fountain and large sitting area – perfect for morning yoga, meditation, or any needed Zen moments. The enormous mahogany pivot door is stunning – and simply not something seen every day -- and sets the tone for the same grandeur just behind it. Inside. With as many as 96 windows in the home, natural light is just as much a feature as the intricate design work. With approximately 6,226 square feet, the house feels incredibly large yet homey. The 12-foot ceilings on the main floor and 10-foot ceilings upstairs add to the effect, creating an open and inviting atmosphere. Upon entering the home, a large floor-toceiling square molding accent wall is an immediate eye-catching feature behind a wooden floating staircase with glass siding guardrail.

The large kitchen features a navy-blue island and white modern cabinetry with black hardware. The kitchen features stainless steel appliances including sideby-side fridge, wine fridge, and freezer. Instead of the typical tile backsplash, LC Custom Homes decided to use small windows to bring the outdoors into the home. The kitchen also features a hidden butler’s pantry to not only store small appliances but use them. Equipped with outlets, there is a coffee station, cabinetry galore and plenty of space to keep your kitchen clutterfree. Counterspace is no longer occupied by Keurig machines, fruit bowls, baking canisters, and KitchenAid mixers – everything is tucked neatly away in the butler’s pantry. Beautiful whitewashed oak flooring emphasizes the clean, open and airy feel of the home. The living area features an impressive floorto-ceiling white and gray stone fireplace ideal for family and friends gathering around during Montana winters or simply curling up with a good book. The main floor also features one of the most stunning rooms in the home – the parlor. Frosted glass doors lead to a beautiful parlor room to enjoy cocktails, a cigar and conversation after dinner. The windows open like miniature doors, truly combining the outdoors and indoors into one fantastic setting. The room features everything needed to entertain guests, including a fridge and microwave. The parlor also has a hidden Murphy bed for guests who

have had a little too much fun. Sophisticated, unique, and breathtaking, this bonus room provides moments to slow down and relax. The main floor also features the master bedroom with beautiful herringbone ceiling accent. The master bedroom also has a private sitting room – ideal for parents with infants, late-night readers, or early risers. It simply allows the person who wants to sleep in bed to do just that. The master ensuite features a sizable sitting tub across large windows for evening soaks to enjoy the moonlight and glass of wine. The massive marble shower has two showerheads and one large rain showerhead to help start busy days in the most relaxing way possible. The master bedroom also features a vast walk-in closet with an abundance of shelving – and don’t worry if you can’t reach the top shelf, it features a pull system so everything is easily accessible. The Bathrooms. Complete with custom made countertops, the bathrooms throughout the home offer high-end appeal with chic white and black design work. Black hexagon flooring

and shower tile is a highlight, offering an elegant and soothing vibe for guests to enjoy. Upstairs. It is all about the kids. There is a living area just for kids to hang out, watch a movie, do a puzzle, and just have some space away from the adults. With four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and two private vanity stations, kids can feel a little more independent in a space they can call their own. Just When You Think It Can’t Get Any Better. It does. Through the heated, three-car garage is a basement complete with workout area to feel the burn. Ample natural light pours in, making the room feel open and welcoming. With plenty of space for large equipment, towels, and everything else you need to bring the gym to you, paying for a health club membership is a thing of the past. But there’s more. The basement also features an extraordinary wine cellar. Wine can be stored and preserved to maintain flavor and temperature for guests and evenings on the patio – plus, it’s delightfully extravagant.

Rocking it Rural By Charity Dewing • cdewing@billingsgazette.com On a one-acre lot sits the newest build by Mac Leffler Construction. The exterior of inkwell-colored stone and roofing with bright white lap siding pop against the open blue sky and green landscaping. Dark oak wood accents create balance in the design work and offers a sense of grandeur at the front entrance. The Main Floor. Through the garage, a sizeable mudroom with midnight black paneling provides a space for kids and family members to store coats, purses, backpacks, and other belongings that will not clutter-up the home. A large laundry room with ample pantry space will keep washing, folding and organizing laundry and supplies an easier task for family members. The front entry of the home sets the tone. The inkwell-colored front door welcomes guests into the open floor plan. Custom wood benches offer plenty of space for coats and personal belongings for guests. The star attraction to this area is the custom wood cherry-colored accent wall with black center piece. The wall creates a sense of contemporary majesty and sets a tone for the home. A coffered ceiling with floating beam accents adds to the overall ambiance of grandness. The main floor is 2,937 square feet with 12-foot ceilings. The open floor plan pours right into the dining and living area. The Living Room and Patio. The grand room is breathtaking as LED lights around wood coffers highlight wood flooring. Large floor-to-ceiling glass doors lead to an incredible patio area with kitchenette and full wet bar and outdoor fireplace. The covered TV and dining space create ample opportunities for evening celebrations and outdoor dining – but the area really feels as though it is part of the interior. Relaxing or romantic evenings can wrapup with a nice soak in the hot tub – a perfect end to winter nights. The Kitchen and Dining. LED can lights highlight white pearl and graycolored Formica cabinets and black backsplash. The Cambria-top waterfalled wood island with prep sink creates space to gather in one of the favorite rooms of the house. Stainless-steel appliances produce a highend, modern feel to the space. There is also an oversized, hidden pantry.

A large space for a dining room table will bring family and friends together for holidays, birthdays, and Sunday dinners. To the right of the entry way, the sizeable dining area has large floor-to-ceiling windows and a swoop six-arm chandelier. The kitchen features stainless steel appliances and a built-in microwave drawer that slides open and close with the push of a button. A stainless-steel range hood sits between wooden floating shelves above the oven. The white backsplash adds yet another variation of color and texture, combining industrial, modern, and homestyle appeal. A semi-pro faucet with magnetic handle above a Kohler Whitehaven apron frontbasin sink in the kitchen island emphasizes the professional feel of the kitchen. Brown sugar-colored cabinetry with black hardware brings back the soft tones, creating balance. But the really cool concept with the kitchen island is where the seating is. Rather than across the sink area – which is typical – the seating is at the end, not only creating ample leg space but enough room to fit two stools on each side of the island for a comfortable and casual dining experience. There is also plentiful cabinetry and pantry space throughout the kitchen area, including a buffet area – so rather than having the food

A covered front porch will lend itself to fall sunsets with glasses of hot cocoa to enjoy evenings of light snowfall. Inside. WELLS BUILT HOMES

RIMPOINT SUBDIVISION

European Vibes By Charity Dewing • cdewing@billingsgazette.com There is always that one parade home that is completely unlike the rest. This year, the build by Wells Built Homes on Audubon Way is that home. Going against the modern grain, the home instead is inspired by vintage European architecture and design. While you can see it in hints of French and English nuances throughout the home, the most obvious aspects are the arches – like something you would see in the European countryside. The Exterior. The immediate eye-catcher is the front porch and doors. Wrapped in brick, the steps and porch lead to a double arched brick front door and arched wooden front porch. The tones and textures of brick and wood create a pleasing esthetic dynamic and sets the tone for grandeur and eccentricity. Swooped roofing eaves add the old-world charm with siding of brick with smeared mortar – avoiding a cleaner line to add to the vintage ornament – and LP smooth lap siding. The home also features beautiful, corrosion resistant copper gutters, making it the first house in the U.S. to have them. Slate-looking asphalt shingles provide hail resistant roofing and add to the design concept. Timber trestles above the garage feature lamps that have a French countryside vibe. Around the back of the home is a patio

with waterfall features. Retaining walls add dimension and functionality to an otherwise unfavorable slope in the back yard. Main Floor. Through the three-car heated garage, is a locker-style mud room. Brick flooring runs throughout the mudroom, main laundry with double washer and dryer, and open butler’s pantry with butcher block countertops. A traditional powder room with charming floral wallpaper that is reminiscent of old England is strategically placed next to the mudroom when children need immediate relief. The Kitchen. The absolute highlight of this kitchen is the oven – a La Cornue CornuFe 110, in Provence Blue with stainless steel and polished brass. Manufactured in France, this range features five gas burners and two ovens that have French side-swing doors. A charming window seat in the dining room adds to the enchanting ambiance of the home. The kitchen, dining and living rooms feature black walnut flooring that compliments the butcher block and marble surfaces, adding sophistication and textural delights. The Living Room. At approximately 5,600 square feet, Anderson window treatments provide natural light throughout each room of the home. An arched white stone fireplace is the centerpiece of the living room. White picture frame accent walls offer a sophisticated, old

world charm and dimension. From the living room, a large office/study with cremone bolt French doors will provide the perfect space to write, practice violin, or focus on work-related issues. Built-in shelving also provides room for a mini library. The Master Bedroom. The master features breathtaking large arched timber tresses – and right outside the windows are the patio waterfall features so you can relax to the sounds of running water. The ensuite features marble tiles throughout with glass French doors that lead to the massive shower with rain showers and free-standing tub that is filled from a ceiling fountain. The bathroom also features infloor heating. The Basement. The basement has a theatre room with bar area and stools to gather for a game of cards or have a drink. The basement also has an exercise room and gaming area for foosball, arcade games and pool table. With six total bedrooms, each bedroom

Main Floor 1 Waterfall features

has a personal bathroom and walk-in closet. But the best feature of this home is the air quality. The furnace has an air scrubber developed by NASA that will clean the air in the home and eliminate viruses – including COVID-19. Top Floor. Leading to the top floor is the impressive entry way. The 19-foot ceiling is adorned with a 5-foot wide by 4-foot tall crystal chandelier that counterparts the vintage-looking crystal doorknobs throughout the home. The stairway features custom made iron balusters and walnut steps on the staircase, creating a one-of-a-kind, beautiful addition to the design concept of the home. The top floor features two more bedrooms with bath and one is large enough to be an ideal playroom. Smart features run throughout the home connecting to iPhone or iPads, which allow homeowners to control the HVAC, water features, outdoor lighting, surround sound, and garage doors.
