Friendship House of Christian Service Since 1957 Friendship House of Christian Service has been serving south Billings as a place that fosters renewal, development and transformation for children and families. Their programming includes work to help children succeed academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. This work is done each day after school with supervised classrooms that include staff and volunteers focused on individual student needs. Through tutoring, mentoring, character education, meals, and hands on learning students have grown an average of 1.3 grade levels this past year. Friendship House’s work with families includes providing access to resources in health care and healthy food. Parent’s educational classes cover parenting, finance, healthy habits, social gatherings and securing positive community connections. Every family of a child enrolled at Friendship House has participated in an
enrichment class. Friendship House approaches community development as holistic growth for developing vibrant families. This fall, Friendship House is breaking ground on a building expansion including the installation of a commercial kitchen, remodeling the gymnasium and the addition of a classroom. Updating these facilities will allow for more opportunities to conduct youth and adult educational enrichment in the classroom. Work in the gym will provide better storage space for equipment. Additionally, this expansion will provide increased food service space and a learning lab for nutrition education and healthy cooking classes. The community’s investment in Friendship House has paid off and is giving dividends as a vital partner in developing a healthy community.
Thank You, Billings. You Have Made A Difference!

Adult Resource Alliance Looking to Give? Adult Resource Alliance Has Many Options
ZooMontana continues to evolve, growing to meet the needs of our community and region every day. Zoo staff and volunteers have built new exhibits, added educational programming and partnered with other community organizations to offer new ways to enjoy the Zoo. Those same staff and volunteers often hear wonderful stories about memorable animal encounters and great family adventures. Often, these stories are accompanied by beaming, smiling faces as children describe Zoo discoveries that they will remember forever. Understanding the value of ZooMontana has been increasingly evident over the past year and for that, we thank you. We at ZooMontana are proud to have donated over $30,000 this year back to the community in passes, memberships and programming in an attempt to give back. We look forward to your continued support which will help ensure that ZooMontana maintains forward momentum and continues to grow in its role as an important community asset. We love our community!
For 39 years, the generosity of volunteers and donors has helped Adult Resource Alliance connect seniors with resources and programs they need to live independently. Bookkeeping assistance, transportation services, Meals on Wheels, social activities. The list of programs is a long one. During this season of giving, Alliance pauses to thank all its supporters for their gifts of time, expertise and financial aid. Alliance is also continuing its efforts to raise awareness of the many ways the community can help adults 60 and older across Yellowstone County. The volunteer opportunities are many and varied. They include: • Delivering nutritious lunches to the homes of seniors through the Meals on Wheels program • Assisting individuals with simple bookkeeping, such as paying bills and balancing a checkbook • Providing rides to those who do not have access to transportation • Helping seniors avoid errors and detect deliberate Medicare abuse through its Senior Medicare Patrol

YWCA Billings YWCA Billings has been saving, changing, and improving lives for more than 10 decades through programs that make a critical difference for women and children in our community. One in every three women is a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault or harassment and most are unaware that YWCA can and will help free of charge. YWCA’s Gateway offers 24-hour phone and text help lines and safe shelter. Our Reaching Every Woman® campaign provides informational outreach through television and radio ads, billboards, and Facebook and Twitter messaging to let more women know
that support is available. We also provide free informational “toolkits” with practical advice. Additionally, YWCA offers counseling and training to assist in overcoming barriers to securing full-time employment, as well as licensed day care in an enriching environment where children participate in school readiness curriculum and enjoy healthy outdoor play. Your help makes all this possible! For additional information or to make a donation call YWCA at (406) 252-6303, or visit www.ywcabillings.org.
Special K Ranch Established in 1986, Special K Ranch (SKR) provides family-oriented Christian homes, on a working ranch for adults who have developmental disabilities. The 31 residents live with home advisors who provide 24-hour loving care to the ranchers while living and working on the ranch. SKR was founded with a vision to be a place its residents can call home for the rest of their lives. The ranchers lead safe, happy and productive lives in a rewarding and stimulating environment. Residents grow flowers, vegetables and bedding plants in a 60,000 sq. ft. greenhouse complex. SKR products are sold at more than 40 stores and restaurants in Montana and Wyoming. The ranch participates in the Yellowstone Valley Farmers Market and partners with the Bureau of Land Management by raising indigenous plants and
trees for land restoration projects. Residents and staff work together raising livestock and doing ranch chores and projects. SKR operates independently of government funding. This fall, the ranch is raising funds for both general operating purposes and for the SKR Foundation endowment. Please join us by supporting these fundraising opportunities that will enhance the lives of Special K residents. Contact Steven Aadland at (406) 550-2224 for more information.

Teaching kids to give back Metro Services
Charitable giving is a part of the holiday season for many people who are spurred to donate for various reasons, including the general spirit of giving synonymous with the holidays. That giving does not have to be exclusive to adults. Parents who want to show their youngsters this season is about more than presents can approach that task in various ways, including involving kids directly in giving back to their communities or helping the less fortunate. Volunteer work Kids of all ages can volunteer. Acclimate youngsters to the idea of volunteering this holiday season. Youngsters’ efforts need not be elaborate. Toddlers can help collect food for a food pantry while school-aged children can assist elderly neighbors. The entire family can work together at a school, hospital or nursing facility. The earlier children become accustomed to giving back, the more inclined they may be to continue those efforts and make it a central part of their lives. Clean out the closet Donating items also can teach kids valuable lessons, including helping them recognize how fortunate they are and how they are in a position to help those who are not so lucky. Parents and children can work together so it doesn’t seem like the little ones are the only ones giving away their
belongings. Adults also should sort through their items and have an equally impressive pile of donations. In addition to local clothing collection bins, there are regional and national collection services that may even pick up items right from your home. Bake sale Another fun way children can get involved is by hosting a bake sale or craft sale. The proceeds of all items sold can be used to benefit a charity chosen by the kids. Let youngsters set the course for the creative extravaganza. Clean up Families can work together to clean up a stretch of beach or a local park or even make improvements to a neighborhood playground. Ideas include painting murals, installing benches and cleaning up litter. Just be sure to get permission from the property owner or appropriate civic authorities so that your project is not interrupted or deemed illegal.

Educate others Children old enough to understand the plight of others can help to spread knowledge and awareness about particular issues. Ask a teacher if children can speak in front of the class about their charitable efforts and what others can do to make real changes.

Children can contribute to volunteer efforts, and the lessons they learn during such activities may help to shape young adults who recognize their responsibility to help the less fortunate.

Billings Studio Theatre Over 62 Years of Excellence and Excitement! That is what Billings Studio Theatre (BST) has delivered to our community and the greater Yellowstone area through their theatrical and musical presentations. From their highly acclaimed musicals such as Les Miserables, Shrek, Mary Poppins and Spamalot to the ever timeless comedies and dramas like Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Steel Magnolias and On Golden Pond, BST gathers the best of local talent in carving out hit after hit, season after season. They provide a little something for everyone as their seasons contain a wide genre of material that varies from classical works and riveting thought-provoking drama to hilarious comedies and children’s shows. BST crafts each season to provide a balanced series that really is theatre for the whole family, BST believes a community becomes stronger as the quality of the amenities that are offered within the community continues to increase. BST is dedicated to providing a consistent line of quality programing and in doing so they have developed a loyal and dedicated patronage. But providing quality programing is difficult to do on ticket revenues alone. Show Sponsors (both corporate and individual) and Donors continue to be the lifeblood of BST, allowing the theatre to pursue the presentation of new and quality material in a setting that is both com-

fortable and appealing. Financial donations, whether they are allocated for immediate needs or those that are designed to provide for the continued stability of the theatre over time, are what provide the growth opportunities of the theatre. These contributions are the reason Billings Studio Theatre has been affectionately titled “Your Community Theatre.” Of course, inkind material, services and unrestricted gifts are always welcome. BST is able to provide investment opportunities in the forms of endowments through the Billings Community Foundation (BCF) as well as the Montana Community Foundation (MCF). The gifting options provided through these associations allow for an enhancement in the capacity of donors and their gifts while meeting the needs of the theatre. BST, through the BCF and MCF, is now able to offer a variety of options in gifting to the theatre; some of which may have significant tax advantages for the donor. Located adjacent to the Rocky Mountain College campus, Billings Studio Theatre is in the heart of the city, and a leader in the cultural and artistic community. Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary The Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary wants to thank our incredible community for the stunning support we’ve received in 2014. We have been able to improve the habitats at our facility this year, increase our staffing levels and grow our education department to bring our message of conservation and education to many Yellowstone ecosystem county schools. Our education platform, The Wildlife Connection uses classroom outreach, educational tours, community collaboration and technology to allow K-12 students to learn about animal habitats and adaptations, humananimal interactions and predator-prey relationships. By providing a link between society and the wild, it is our hope and mission to inspire people of all ages to care as deeply about the magnificence and wildness of Montana as much we do. Our animals and programs are de-
pendent on the support of our community through memberships, adoptions and most importantly individual donations. Beartooth Mountain Christian Ministries Thank you, Billings, for your continued support! Beartooth Mountain Christian Ministries is an outstanding year-round facility with two well-developed programs, Beartooth Christian Camp and Arrowhead Bible College. Our gorgeous 200+ acre campus consists of industry-leading facilities, housing for 300 people, a double zip line, climbing wall, water-front, horse program, and much more! Beartooth Christian Camp, or BCC, is our summer camping and winter retreat program. We offer a wide range of Christian camps to all ages, including students, families, and more. Our location and facility are phenomenal, yet they pale in comparison to our goal which is “Helping people know Christ better.” Our Program Director sees it like this, “Christ and His Word are first; fun, excitement, and adventure fit everywhere in between!” Beyond our summer camps, BCC is pleased to announce that we are offering Jr. High, Sr. High, and Men’s winter retreat. Please visit www.beartoothchristiancamp.org for more information about how to attend one of these retreats!
Arrowhead Bible College, or ABC, is our intense oneyear Bible College program. Training at Arrowhead purposefully emphasizes taking students deeper with God. We look to provide an atmosphere in which the Christian disciplines and a rich love for the Word of God can be cultivated. Although we intentionally hold a high academic standard, we are not quite your traditional school environment. You will receive biblical knowledge and training in the Christian faith, but you will also receive much more! Please see www.arrowheadbiblecollege.org for more information! Beartooth Mountain Christian Ministries is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. To see our current needs list, visit the website at www.beartoothchristiancamp.org or call our office at (406) 328-6825. We appreciate your consideration! Financially supporting BMCM is one step forward in the process of growing our effectiveness for Christ in the Montana community.

Montana Rescue Mission Montana Rescue Mission serves an area encompassing south, central and eastern Montana, and northern Wyoming. The majority of our guests are from right here in Yellowstone County. Fortunately for them, the people of Billings and the surrounding communities are compassionate and generous in their giving. Without the generosity of our supporters, we would not be able to provide help, shelter and solutions to their immediate needs and problems. Montana Rescue Mission has been helping the homeless and needy for 57 years. We do this without government support, relying solely on the generosity of our donors. We provide essential core services to meet the needs of those seeking our help. We provide three meals daily at our Women and Families Shelter and Men’s Shelter. We also provide lunch and dinner daily for the community at large at our Men’s Shelter. MRM provides emergency and temporary care at our Women
and Families Shelter to single women, women with children, men with children and intact families. We shelter single men at our Men’s facility. Our guests receive clean clothing, towels, toiletries, bedding, etc. all free of charge. Additionally, our guests may receive assistance in seeking work, counseling, case managed services, uplifting support, prayer and help with longer term spiritual and emotional needs. We also offer extended stays to assist with the seeking of employment, educational assistance, tutoring for adults and children, life skills classes including financial management and budgeting, and spiritual counseling for those seeking a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Participation in our religious programming is entirely voluntary yet strongly encouraged. We believe a closer relationship with Christ will enable those struggling to gain the strength and support necessary to sustain them through recov-
ery. Our longer term programs are based upon tried and true recovery models with proven effectiveness. Rescue, Recovery, Redemption and Restoration are more than four words that begin with an “R”. At Montana Rescue Mission, we are putting these words into action through what we are doing every day. None of what we do would be possible without your support. For this generosity, we thank you. Please help us to continue helping those who come to us seeking our assistance by
mailing a contribution to P.O. Box 3232 Billings, MT 59103 or give online at montanarescuemission.org. If you have any questions about what we do or would like to see firsthand, please call us to schedule a visit at (406) 259-3800.

St. Vincent de Paul “To Promote and Perform Works of Charity Through Personal Service” The Billings Society of St. Vincent de Paul has been actively serving the poor since 1972. We offer tangible assistance to those in need. Some services we provide include: sack lunches, rent and utility assistance, public restroom, clothing and household certificates, educational assistance, refurbished computers for students, baby basics, laundry service and Payee Representatives. St. Vincent de Paul is supported entirely from private donors. We do not receive government funding. We have two Thrift Stores in Billings that provide a low cost shopping alternative of quality goods. Those goods are donated by people in the Billings community to help support our mission. St. Vincent de Paul assists over 1200 individuals per month in our community with no regards to race,
ethnicity, or religion. Inspired by Gospel values, St. Vincent de Paul leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering. If you are interested in donating or volunteering please call (406) 252-1855.
CASA of Yellowstone County This holiday season 350 children in Yellowstone County will find themselves in the court system because of child abuse or neglect. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), trains volunteer Advocates to speak in court for abused children. CASA Advocates develop a strong bond with the child as they investigate the child’s life and advise the court regarding the child’s physical, psychological and educational needs. The goal of the CASA Advocate is simple; help the child find a safe, permanent home, as quickly as possible. Now more than ever, CASA of Yellowstone County needs YOU! With record numbers of children entering the court system and a shortage of CASA Advocates, we need YOU to speak for abused children in our community. Do you have 5-15 hours a month to dedicate to becoming a CASA Advocate? New Advocate training opportunities start in
January and only take 1 evening a week for 6 weeks to complete. For more information or to inquire about becoming a CASA Advocate, call 406-259-1233 today or email Maggie at Maggie@yellowstonecasa.org. This season give an abused child a voice, YOURS.

Western Heritage Center At the Western Heritage Center, we are passionate about education and skillbuilding. Each exhibit, educational trunk or program that we develop is crafted using a checklist of objectives (what we call ‘The 5 Cs’: Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Cultural Awareness) and uses the diverse heritage and traditions of our regional history to create a multi-sensory experience designed to stimulate the participant’s mind and emotion. Your investment is essential to this work, and is taken very seriously. Each dollar is leveraged through area partnerships to ensure the final product has maximum impact. The organization’s Affiliation with the Smithsonian Institution and Accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums require that we adhere to a very high standard in all the work we do, from the way we care for artifacts, to the way we interact
with the public, to our strict financial and business practices. Join us!
Visitors enjoy the ‘Who Are You, Who Are We?’ exhibit. The final result of a project by a group of West High students, the exhibit incorporates artifacts, video oral history interviews, historic interpretation and an art installation.
Grateful families thank You! During 2014, four Yellowstone County families completed their sweat equity required by their homeowner partnership with Habitat for Humanity Mid-Yellowstone Valley.
But their commitment to owning simple, decent, affordable housing did not end there. They will continue working hard in the coming years to complete the purchase of their homes by making their monthly mortgage payments and to provide their children with the safety and stability of a permanent place to call home. Please consider investing in your community with a tax deductible gift to help more Yellowstone County families raise themselves out of poverty housing in 2015. Youth Dynamics Empowering Youth & Families for a Brighter Tomorrow Supporting Montana youth and families is a core belief of Youth Dynamics. Our experience has been that children’s behavior improves faster and their improvements are maintained more in families. Because of this, Youth Dynamics’ services are provided in a family setting or in an environment that is as similar to a family as possible. We treat and support Montana youth who have been diagnosed with a severe emotional disturbance and, in most cases, are survivors of child abuse and trauma. As the holidays are approaching please consider a meaningful gift for a Montana youth who is currently living in one of our Therapeutic Youth Group Homes or a Therapeutic Foster Home who don’t have a family or are unable to be with their family. Also, many of
the youth we serve who are living with their natural family will have a meager Christmas without help from the community. We are respectfully asking for gift donations such as gift cards, clothing, books, and toys to help make these kids’ Christmas a little brighter. For more information on how you can get involved visit us online at youthdynamics.org or call Nina Hernandez at (406) 245-6539.

COMMUNITY OF GIVING 2014
Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter “With compassion and without judgment we provide a respectful and safe environment for companion animals in our community, and for the people who surround those animals.” Yellowstone County is growing by woofs and meows. Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter (YVAS) is seeing an increase in companion animals needing medical care and safe housing. In the true sense of “community” and “giving” during this holiday season you can partner with YVAS to help these animals. YVAS staff, volunteers, and Board of Directors give their hearts to these furry, feathered, and leathery friends through medical care, foster homes, outreach resources, adoptions, and transfers to rescues or shelters. Our kennels are home to as many as 220 critters. They may be lost, looking for their families; eagerly waiting for new families; or be dogs and cats held by Billings Animal Control for cruelty or quarantine. Over 3,000 animals entered Yellowstone Valley in 2014. We reunited lost dogs and cats with their waiting families, tails wagging and tears flowing; others to foster families, adopted to loving homes, or transferred to shelters or rescues. Honey aka Chloe’s story “I never would have called myself an animal person. But, for some reason, I let my sister talk me into visiting YVAS one afternoon. The shelter was filled to the brim with dogs. Something about sweet little “Honey” caught my attention. She is an 8 year old Chow Chow/Golden Retriever mix with fluffy golden fur and a curly tail. Her demeanor was so sweet! While many other dogs were barking, she remained calm and collected. I took pictures of her and went home. A week or two later, my sister
asked to visit the shelter again. We stopped by on a rainy Saturday afternoon and to my surprise Honey was still there! Over the weekend, I convinced my husband to stop in with me, and that Monday we took Honey home. I was shocked no one else had snatched this sweetie, but the YVAS explained that senior dogs were harder to find families for. We took Honey home and renamed her “Chloe”. We had her shaved for summer and to remove her gnarly coat. It was so fun to watch her perk up once the heavy, dirty, knotted coat was gone! Now, she’s the first to say “Hi!” when you walk in the door and knows exactly when it’s 5:00 and time for dinner! Whether it’s around the neighborhood, a trip to Norm’s Island, or a day hiking in Red Lodge, Chloe LOVES walks! And I love seeing her so happy. She doesn’t like to fetch, but we were able to treat this old dog some new tricks! …you really begin to realize what a special part of your heart this little furry friend has and how devastated you’d be if something happened to them. ” Supporting dogs and cats in the shelter and foster homes is costly. Conservative in our work, we look to vets to donate their services, and volunteers to give their time. Your financial donations give these animals their lives, to heal, and to be adopted into new homes. Through your donations, you can help the YVAS staff and volunteers in their long hours of commitment to these animals. YVAS is YOUR community animal shelter.
