How to Choose a Massage Therapist
A
massage is a great way to cope with stress. Massage therapy may be exactly what you need following a long day at the office or completion of a major project, But selecting the right massage therapist takes time and plenty of thought. You may need to try several therapists before finding the best one for you. Keep in mind that there are also a variety of different massage specialties. Before making an appointment, keep these things in mind.
Training Most states require proper licensing for massage therapist; however, other states have no requirements. Verify the regulations in your state before checking a therapist’s background and experience. No matter where you live, good massage therapists have undergone professional training. It is an accepted medical practice, so finding a professional is a must. It is particularly important if you have a muscle injury or back problems. If you have medical issues, consult a doctor to find a massage therapist who can meet your needs.
Specializations With several hundred kinds of massage therapies at your fingertips, it is important to research your options. Knowing the types of therapies you can receive will help you understand which is best for you. Maybe you are looking for a deep tissue massage, aromatherapy, Swedish massage or hot stone massage. Therapists use lotions, powders, and oils to increase or reduce the friction of their hands. Talk to your massage therapist. Many of them have personal specialties. They can help you decide what is best for you.
References, Happy Customers If your friends or family receive massages regularly, ask them for recommendations. Good massage therapists will leave a trail of happy customers. Reputation is often the best way to determine if someone’s services are helpful. You could also request references from massage therapists. Speak with previous clients to see if their techniques are effective.
Pricing The cost of massage therapy can vary dramatically. It will all depend on the type and duration of the massage, the therapist’s training and even the business location. Your health insurance might cover a portion of the bill. Some insurance providers require a prescription from an osteopath or chiropractor before providing coverage. Check with your policy.
Personality Massage therapy is very personal. It requires interaction between people for long periods of time. Your therapist’s personality should be a good fit with yours. It will determine the quality of your experience.
You should always feel comfortable with the person performing the massage.
Location The location will tell you plenty about the massage services. The office should be neat, clean and professional. You might see other elements in the space to help you relax. Pleasant music, water fountains, and special lighting enhance the experience. Choosing a therapist within a convenient location will also help you. A long drive after a massage is probably not going to be pleasant. Ask whether the massage therapist can make home or office visits. Having a massage therapist come to you is, for many people, the ultimate luxury.

How to Choose a mattress
I
By JAY HOFFMANN OWNER OF MATTRESS KING
came across an article that brought to light an item everyone has that’s possibly the most used, undervalued, and yet most impactful item to benefit your well-being. It’s not out for everyone to see, in fact we cover it up as if to hide it away. It’s a mattress. Most of us use it 6 to 8 hours every night. How you sleep those hours will dictate how you feel the rest of the time you are awake. Studies also point out most people will spend less on their mattress than many other items in their home. A study by Oklahoma University showed replacing a mattress that’s at least 5 years old, greatly improve sleep, reduced back and shoulder pain, and reduced
H4

back stiffness. Studies also revealed people keep their mattress much longer than they should. (You should replace it every 8 years) Considering a mattress maybe the most used item in your home and it can have such a great impact on your health and well-being, selecting the right one should not be taken lightly. First consider the size you need. If you or your sleeping partner feel crowded consider upgrading to a bigger bed. Even the most comfortable pair of shoes won’t feel comfortable if they’re too small. Next consider support and pressure relief. You can have a very supportive mattress that does not have to feel hard. Many of today’s mattresses provide excellent internal support with great pressure relief to the shoulders and hips. When shopping for a mattress remember one mattress does not fit everyone. Be careful shop-
ping at places where there is a limited selection, or worse yet, the inability to even try the bed before you buy. When trying the different mattresses, test them out in your preferred sleeping position. You should feel contouring support to your body with little to no pressure to your shoulders or hips. And don’t be short term cheap. Think long term. You only buy a mattress every 8 to 10 years. Yes $1,000 mattress set may seem expensive, but over 10 years the great sleep it provides breaks down to less than $0.28 a night. That’s very inexpensive in the long run, and will be appreciated by you many years after you purchase it. In conclusion, remember sleep is something you will do one third of your life. How you spend that third of your life will dictate how you feel the 2/3 of your life you are awake. Sleep well.

How to Choose the Right Insurance Agent for Your Needs T he right insurance and the right agent can make your life so much easier. A savvy agent can help save you time and money and give you peace of mind. Shopping for the right insurance agent can be taxing. There are so many factors to consider, including finding a company that offers the right mix of service, coverage and an affordable price. For many, the biggest challenge is how to identify a reliable, reputable agent. Remember that everyone needs insurance coverage. An experienced agent can walk you through various options, keeping in mind your budget and lifestyle. Before choosing an insurance plan, you will need to identify an agent to guide you through the process. Your financial future depends on finding the right person to help you get insurance that will fit your needs. Your family, friends and colleagues have likely worked with insurance agents in the past. Ask people you trust for referrals. If you receive a recommendation, it is because that person has had a positive experience. There is a strong likelihood that you will have similar results. Successful agents understand that offering great service will keep them in business. Their careers depend on word-of-mouth. If you are happy with the service you receive, your insurance agent will appreciate your willingness to send business their way. If you do not have recommendations, begin researching your options. Begin by looking at local companies and brokers. Large insurers give all of their agents the same training. Each agent will be subject to the same company policies. In some ways, that can be comforting. However, agents at large companies may lack creativity and flexibility in how they handle their accounts. As you conduct your research, be thorough and critical. Buying a policy is similar to purchasing a new car or home. It truly is that important.
H6
Sunday, April 10, 2016
Select a company that is highly regarded by consumers. Read reviews of each company to determine who has the most satisfied clients. Are they easy to work with? Have there been any problems with collecting on a policy? Also, check that any prospective agent has all necessary licenses and training. After narrowing your list of prospective agents, make an appointment to visit each one. Prepare a list of questions and concerns about your personal situation. Take notes during your meeting. Remember that you must feel comfortable with the answers before purchasing a policy. If an agent tries to pressure you into making a decision right away, inform him that you need more time and cannot sign anything immediately. The right agent will let you take as much time
as you need to understand the implications of each policy. They will give you useful information and not subject you to high-pressure sales techniques. Your agent should be available. The relationship doesn’t end once the sale is completed. Your dialogue should be continuous. The best agents are available in the event you have to file a claim. Agents who have been in business for many years likely have a good reputation and track record. They understand the policies and will even take extra care that you are properly protected. It is essential that you choose the right type and amount of insurance to adequately protect yourself and your financial future. The policy should be tailored to fit your specific needs. A seasoned, skilled insurance agent will be an invaluable resource for safeguarding your future.

How to Choose the Best Retirement Community for Your Needs I f you are in the market for a retirement community, it is important to choose a vibrant place with plenty of recreational opportunities. More Americans are staying active into their retirement years. A growing number of seniors are more health conscious and recognize that an active lifestyle could prolong their lives. That’s why many search for communities that match their lifestyles and goals for relaxed living. Here are some aspects to consider before making a financial commitment to a living facility.
Community Activities and Parking Many seniors enjoy golf, tennis, swimming and walking. Any prospective retirement community should have easy access to such activities. Other seniors enjoy arts and crafts, board games, dancing and organized activities. Taking part in social events can provide opportunities to make new friends. Research what kinds of social events are organized within the retirement community. Also, find out if the community has ample opportunities for residents to travel to theaters, museums or shopping malls together. Parking is another important factor when choosing a retirement community. Most people enjoy having family and friends visit, so parking is a necessity. When parking is tight, visitors will be less likely to come. Do not overlook its importance.
Medical Care Facilities Retirement communities should be easily accessible to emergency personnel. Know the location of the closest hospitals, doctors, ambulance services and other personnel. You may wish to restrict your search to communities located near your preferred physician or other service providers. Any prospective community should have a formal emergency plan in place. In addition, check to see if the retirement unit has custom safety features, such as railings in the bathrooms and entranceways.
Pet Policies Pet policies are another feature to consider when
H8

investigating potential retirement communities. Some facilities will allow you to bring your pet to live with you while others will not. So if you have a pet you don’t want to leave behind, you may be able to bring it with you. Many communities now recognize the health benefits of having pets. Additionally, a park or nearby dog walking area will benefit you and your animal companion, particularly if your pet requires daily exercise. Taking a walk each day will benefit both of you.
Churches, Libraries and Schools Consider how close the community is to schools, sports facilities, and other sites that produce a large amount of traffic volumes and noise levels. Many people prefer to live in less congested, quiet areas during their later years. Also, think about where the nearest libraries and churches are located, as well as public transporta-
tion. Ask whether the community provides its own transportation for residents. Some facilities have their own fleet of minivans and buses. It is extremely helpful for seniors who no longer drive and need to do some routine personal shopping.
The Community Current residents will give you a feel for their level of satisfaction with the community. Talk to them about their experiences and seek candid reviews of the amenities and staff. After all, it is important you feel confident that you have selected a retirement community that fits your personal needs and lifestyles. By taking the time to research multiple facilities, you will undoubtedly find a warm, welcoming facility. You will be able to build lasting friendships and gain the support you need to have fun during your retirement.

How to Choose a Venue
L
ocation! Location! Location! Anyone planning a special event, such as a wedding, concert or fundraiser understands the importance of finding the right venue. Homes may not be ideal if you don’t want to deal with a large crowd on your property. And hosting a major event at your home or office could be a hassle. But a classy, well-equipped venue can make your gathering a success. Here are a few things to consider when choosing a location for your special occasion.
Less Stress Event planning is stressful. You will need a venue that lowers your anxiety level before and during the event. This is especially true of weddings. Whether you or a friend is getting married, you will need an experienced venue staff. The employees should treat you and your guests with respect and grace. Venues can be very helpful with event planning. Top-quality venues regularly do business with many vendors. They can give you advice on finding other vendors in your area. They might be able to assist you in the planning phase, which can help you relax as you plan for the big day.
Call the Shots On the other hand, you should control the entire process. Be sure the details are meeting your expectations. When you feel a venue is pressuring you or even making decisions without your consent, end the relationship. You need people who will work with you, not people who only consider what is easiest for them. The theme, style and decor of the event should be your choice. Leave the smaller details the venue’s staff and management. Doing so will free you to focus on important aspects of the occasion.
Technical Needs
Included Services Every venue is different when it comes to services. Some places offer hardly any services, while others help you set up and clean up. Placing tables and chairs is time-consuming. Taking down decorations and equipment afterward can put a sour ending on a
H10
Sunday, April 10, 2016
fabulous day. Read your contract carefully. Unless you are on a very tight budget, look for a full-service venue that will set up and tear down as part of their pricing package.
Your event might require special technical needs. For example, sound and lighting is vital for a musical event. The venue should have the right electrical and audio connections, as well as places to route and hide cables safely. Weddings can also be a technical challenge. The band or DJ will need to have clear sound and a dance floor. Wedding photographers might have preferences about where backdrops and special lighting will be placed. The best venues can help you have a successful, stress-free event. Finding the right place to experience your special occasion will be memorable for you and your guests.

How to Choose an RV
R
ecreational vehicles are like houses on wheels. They are more complicated and much more sophisticated than regular automobiles. They are great for fun and vacations but they are a huge investment. And investing in one is a lot more complicated than buying in a car. After talking with a dealer, many first-timers sometimes end up with more questions than answers. With some research and help from other RV owners, you can find an RV that is right for you. Your first step in purchasing an RV is to ask yourself what you would like to do in your recreational vehicle. Are you using it to travel the country? What sizes and styles do you prefer? Are you partial to purchasing a new or used RV? Consult resources to answer these questions. Use the Internet to browse RV brands and styles. There are numerous message boards for RV owners that contain useful information. The best way to learn about recreational vehicles is to speak with owners themselves. If people in your
H12

social network own an RV, ask about their vehicle. Look through the interior; examine various options so you can understand what is available. Another factor is size. If you are only planning to use it sporadically, then size might not be an issue. But if you plan on living out of the vehicle for extended periods of time, then a larger RV may be more comfortable. Some RV parks have restrictions on size, so be sure to verify what sizes are generally acceptable. Additional features can make your ride enjoyable. Think about whether you would like a full-service kitchen or plasma TV. Choose items that would make your trip as comfortable as possible. Once you have become more acquainted with the marketplace, start visiting RV dealers. After all your research, you should be able to speak with the salespeople clearly and confidently. If you plan on purchasing a new RV, look for a dealer who offers a factory warranty. Dealers who sell used RVs should also give you a factory warranty
along with a used vehicle report. Potential RV buyers don’t usually think to ask for a used vehicle report. However, you should know the history of your used RV before purchasing it, as it could have had extensive damage. Incentives such as free upgrades or a good financing rate may be enticing, but you should always be skeptical about the deal that comes with them. Try to bring a fellow RV owner with you to the dealership. Most people are happy to share their thoughts and experiences with you. It is a good way to ensure you are getting a fair deal. The best dealers have an on-site service department or contracts with reputable RV repair shops. Some RV repairs are specialized and different from regular vehicles. You will need a service shop that will accept your warranty in the event your RV is ever damaged. With a little effort and time, you will find a fantastic deal on an RV best suited for your needs. Then, you can spend time in your vehicle enjoying the scenery.

How to Choose a Used Car Dealer A void getting stuck with a lemon by doing your research before visiting a used car dealership. Buying a used car can be a challenge. Being well-informed will help you avoid getting taken advantage of. Have a good idea of what you want before speaking to anyone. Then follow these tips to find a good used car dealer. You need to find a gently used vehicle without paying more than necessary.
Choose Your Vehicle Knowing what you want will help you save time and effort. You may not know the exact make and model, but at least have an idea of the automobile type. Are you searching for a sports car, SUV, pickup truck or van? Focusing on the type of car will help you avoid wasting time visiting dealerships that don’t sell the type of used car you need.
Search “Kelly’s Blue Book” Figuring out your budget is essential. How much do you want to spend? Search the Kelly Blue Book (http://kbb.com) or the NADA Guides (http://nada. com/) for what you might spend on the type of car you prefer. Also, search the Internet and car websites to get a firm idea of asking prices for your type of car.
Talk to Friends and Family Friends and family members who enjoy cars as a hobby will have information for you about reliable dealers. If they have recently purchased a used car, they will have experience with who treated them right - as well as who didn’t. Word of mouth is one of the best indicators of a reliable business. When you find a business that gets more than one positive review, make sure to check them out.
Make Appointments Compile a list of dealerships you want to visit. Call and make appointments with salespeople. Ask them about financing and extended warranties. Both may figure prominently in your decision-making process. Try to speak with everyone on your list. Comparing as many people as possible will help you avoid making a hasty, uninformed decision.
H14
Sunday, April 10, 2016
Visit the Dealerships See each dealership in person to look for cars that match your type. Going there will help you feel confident about doing business with them. When you look at cars, ask about maintenance and previous owner reports. Don’t purchase a car on the first visit. Just take a business card and move on to the next dealership on your list. Once you have seen everyone on your list, research customer reviews of the ones who impressed
you the most. You will find the best dealership by considering who will give you the best deal and who has received the best customer reviews. Finding the right used car dealer is almost as important as buying the best used vehicle. After all, you want to make sure you are doing business with reputable people who will stand behind their sales. You don’t want to end up with a ‘lemon’ and end up having to start the search for a new used car all over again.

How to Choose a Vacuum Store
Y
ou can buy a vacuum cleaner from almost anywhere: department stores, big-box retailers and even specialty shops all carry them. But many of these cleaners can be inexpensive, lowquality items that are destined to let you down. Your carpets will soon look so dirty that you will have to pull up hair and lint by hand. But a quality vacuum cleaner will give you years of good service. Pay more for a quality vacuum and spare yourself heartache down the road. Reputable vacuum dealers in your area will be happy to help you find the right model. Look for a dealer who has been in business for years. A long track record is proof of a stellar customer service. Determine the best brands and models by going online or consulting Consumer Report’s evaluations. Develop a good idea of what you need before going to the store. The best vacuum dealers carry a variety of top-quality brands. They will also let you compare models and features side-by-side. You will soon understand what makes some brands and models outshine their competitors. Take a look at products in different price ranges. Beware of stores offering only one side of the spectrum. Top-notch dealers have a variety of vacuums at different prices ranges. They know that comparison shopping is critical to finding the best machine for your money. Purchasing replacement parts in a few years will drain your finances. Models in the middle to higher price range will last for many years because of their higher quality and construction. You won’t need to replace your vacuum every year or so. The best vacuum dealers know about their products. Not only will they discuss advantages and disadvantages of certain brands, they will also tell you why some aspects are superior to others. Sleek designs and a large number of attachments don’t carry the significance of a heavy-duty motor. Ask about the store’s return policy. It is better to choose a retailer who has a generous return policy; one that allows you to bring back your vacuum if you aren’t completely satisfied with its performance or if it is too cumbersome to use. You should also understand your model’s warranty. The best vacuum dealers offer in-house repairs and solid customer service when something breaks. Your friends and family may have leads on vacuum dealers. Take their experiences into consideration. Any store can sell you a vacuum, but not all of them will know about their merchandise. Choose a vacuum specialty store who has the best product knowledge, replacement parts and customer service. It is possible that you might pay more at first, but you will get a long-lasting deal.

How to Choose an Insurance Company
W
ith so many insurance companies out there, choosing one can seem like a daunting task. Which one can you really trust? Which one deserves your business? Many companies resort to gimmicks and funny commercials to attract new customers. But when it comes to filing a claim, the laughter suddenly stops. How do you know if an insurance company will come through for you? Choosing a good insurance company requires you to take a long-term approach. It is similar to a mathematical equation. Weighing a price quote with the quality of service and risks you’ll be taking will provide the right answer.
Know Your Policy First off, consider the type of insurance you’re buying. You will have to take a look at the fine details and figures for each policy. If you are in the beginning of this process, insurance representatives should act more like teachers instead of salespeople. Your choices may be complicated, with a range of pricing options, deductibles and exclusions. A good company will give you choices, explain them clearly and let you make up your own mind. While reviewing your options, make sure you are comparing similar policies. If a premium seems unusually low, it might have a higher deductible or more limitations. It is important that you get as much information as possible about each policy before making a decision.
Customer Service Of course, customer service always plays a key role in determining which company is best. If you’ve had friends or family who have filed insurance claims previously, ask them about their experiences. Some insurance companies have better reputations than others. Gathering all of these experiences will give you a good idea of how you might be treated by them. Each company has a different customer service philosophy. Some of them prefer to use a local representative to communicate with clients. Others will discuss policies through their website or a
H18
Sunday, April 10, 2016
24-hour phone number. Many insurance companies; however, use a combination of these methods. They might give you 24-hour access to national representatives along with a local advisor.
Financial Strength An insurance company is only as strong as its balance sheet. Financial strength is especially important these days. Every insurer is independently rated based on their finances. An insurance agent should inform you of the company’s rating and tell you what it means. A good rating means the company can
make a payout in the event of a catastrophic event. A reputable, stable, well-capitalized insurance company is also likely to have more coverage options. While your insurance premiums are an important factor, it is just one piece of a complicated puzzle. Choose a company that will not only give you a fair price, but who will also be prompt and courteous in the event you have to file a claim. The right insurance company will treat you well at every level of interaction, provide quality coverage, and pay out in a timely manner should there be an accident.

How to Choose a Hotel
O
ver the years, hotels have evolved from inns for weary travelers to nice get-away spots. A nice hotel can be a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. The tastefully appointed decor, plush furnishings and nice amenities such as room service and a spa could enhance your stay. Or maybe you are searching for a place to stay during a family vacation, business or road trip. Perhaps you are in between homes and need temporary accommodations. Whatever your reason for staying in a hotel, you should be careful in your decision-making process. Pick a hotel that has a perfect combination of cleanliness, fun amenities and superior customer service. Here are a few guidelines to help you choose your hotel:
Search Conduct an online search for all hotels that are in close proximity to where you will be traveling to or where you wish to go. When you are simply looking for a vacation hotel, be sure to look for a facility in a central area. It is likely that there will be many hotels in your desired area. Choose the five closest hotels. That way, you will not have to drive or walk far to reach your ultimate destination.
Amenities The next thing to consider is the amenities. Visit the websites of each hotel you have chosen and look at the features and services. If you are staying for one-night, you might be looking for a quiet spot to sleep. But every hotel offers different amenities. If you are staying for several days, you might want free access to a fitness center. Other places have a continental breakfast at no extra charge. Look for free services, such as cable television with movie channels, kitchenettes, refrigerators and gaming consoles. And of course, free Wi-Fi is a must.
Prices Your budget will play a huge part in your decision. Research a few locations to see which hotels offer the services you want for the least amount of
H20

money. You might be qualified for a discount. Hotels and resorts often offer discounts to people who are in the military, have AAA memberships or are senior citizens. If you are on a business trip, your employer may have an arrangement with selected hotels to provide a discount for employees. Either way, booking online is also likely to be cheaper than calling the front desk directly.
Reviews Customer reviews will give you important insight on specific locations. Let the reviews give you some insight as to what other hotel guests experienced. The more reviews you read, the better. It will give you a balanced assessment of a hotel. Previous customers can answer questions about the friendliness of the staff and the condition of the rooms.
Former hotel guests are typically unafraid of talking about negative experiences at an establishment. These reviews could serve as a prediction of how the hotel staff will treat you.
Selection Pick the top two hotels from your list. If possible, visit them so you can get a feel for the establishment. If they are part of a chain, you could visit another branch facility and ask questions. The concierge and staff should be happy to talk to you. Some of them may have even stayed at the hotel on your list. After you have taken all the necessary steps, make an informed decision. The extra time and effort will ensure a pleasant and fun stay. After all, your hotel serves as your home away from home.

How to Choose a Boat Dealer
B
oating is a popular American pastime, particularly in states with lots of access to water like Michigan, Florida and large swaths of the southeastern United States. Boating is ideal for fishing, exploring bodies of water, water skiing and, of course, soaking up some sun. But whether you are a novice or experienced boater, you could use the advice of a credible boat dealer. Purchasing a new or used boat will require a substantial investment on your part. You will need to find a boat that meets your needs, is reliable and practically guarantees the safety of you and your passengers. A brand new boat is typically expensive. A used model will be less costly, but you might be inheriting problems that will carry a large price tag in the future. You can find dealers from a variety of sources, but you should do your research before setting out for the boat dealership. Find a dealer who is Marine Industry Certified. A certified dealer has met or exceeded standards in a variety of areas ranging from its facility to

the level of service. It also means that the dealer will guarantee service both before and after the sale. You can ask friends and family for recommendations. Also, check with local consumer websites, the Better Business Bureau and your local newspaper. Before going to a dealer, do some research on boats and manufacturers. Visit the manufacturer’s website, boating forums and consumer websites. Read comments and ratings for various models. Some cities have annual boat shows. These events can provide valuable information about dealers and boat models. You might also think about where you plan to go boating. Dealers near your favorite boating spot will spare you from having to trailer your boat for hundreds of miles should it ever need servicing. Purchasing a trailer, docking and storage are also aspects to keep in mind as you purchase a boat. Leave enough money in your budget for these items. After you have narrowed your list to several dealers, it is time to speak to them. Go in person and bring a list of questions to ask them.
When you have selected a boat, make sure it is NMMA certified. This certification ensures that the boat is built according to the American Boat and Yacht Council’s standards and will meet U.S. Coast Guard requirements. Do not select a dealer or boat right away. Ask to test drive boats you are thinking of purchasing. The engine should not be warmed up for you. You will need to start the engine yourself to feel comfortable handling the boat. Make sure there is no potential for overheating the engine. Perform a visual inspection and test run before negotiating with the dealer. If you are still interested in the boat, haggle with him about the price. Make sure you don’t go over your budget. It will be hard to enjoy a boat when you can barely afford it. Ask the dealer if he will include essential accessories in the purchase price. He might even include your registration fee in the total cost. If the fee is not included, you will need to register your boat at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Finding a trustworthy dealer will help you find the best solution for you so you can relax and enjoy your boat.

How to Choose a Leased Car
W
ould you like to drive a new swank car every two or three years by simply making a monthly payment? Or would you like to drive a luxury vehicle without coughing up a huge down payment? If you answered yes to either question, then leasing could be a great option for you. While it doesn’t make sense for every situation, many people find leasing an attractive choice for operating a new car. You don’t build up equity over time like with a new-car purchase, but you do typically get a lower monthly payment than when you buy a car. If you’re thinking about leasing a car, here are some things to consider.
Types of Cars Virtually every car on the road — from affordable compact cars to pickup trucks and high-end luxury vehicles — can be leased. In fact, more than 50 percent of many luxury vehicles are leased rather than purchased, helping to make the monthly payments for high-end vehicles affordable to more people. You should start the process by picking what category of vehicle you want, then cross-shopping from a variety of competitors to see what you like best.
The Test Drive Just like with purchasing a car, you should always do a thorough test drive to see how you like it. Test drive several vehicles, in fact, to see the differences among each of them. Sometimes they’re subtle, and sometimes they’re very dramatic. Don’t go into the drive with a pre-conceived notion of what to expect, either. With the rate today’s cars are improving, the idea you had about a certain brand or model three years ago could be very different by this year. You’ll want to keep an open mind. If another person will be involved in the leasing decision, such as a spouse, you should bring them along for the ride. You should test the car in as close to real-world conditions as possible, perhaps even driving part of your daily commute route to get an impression on roads you’re very familiar with driving. Spend some time in the back seat to judge the roominess, and, of course, give the steering, brakes and engine a decent test to see how they compare to the other vehicles you’re looking into leasing.

The Deal While the purchase price of new vehicles is usually fairly close between similar competitors, you may find there’s a much wider variation in the price of leasing them. That’s because leases have more things to factor in, the most important being the vehicle’s expected residual value. In other words, the less value your vehicle is expected to lose during the term of the lease, the cheaper your payment is likely to be. And if the value is expected to drop like a rock, the monthly payment will be higher. Other factors can influence the lease cost, too, including the term of your lease, the incentives offered by the manufacturer and how big of a down payment you want to make. The more you pay up front, the lower your monthly payments will be during the term of the lease.
The Details Unless you’re careful, your lease could end up costing you more money when you turn the car back in at the end of the agreement. You should make sure you know and are happy with things like:
The mileage limits. Going over the mileage limits in your contract can get very expensive, so make sure it’s realistic for your driving needs throughout the term of the lease. Choose a lease with more generous mileage allowances when in doubt. The car’s condition. Because you don’t own the car, you’ll be expected to turn it in with as little damage as possible. You’ll need to take care of the interior and exterior of the car and know what you’ll have to pay for condition problems at the end of the lease, whether they’re your fault or not. The early termination penalty. If you decide you want out of your lease before the term is up, it’ll cost you. Find out exactly how much before you sign up for the deal. While all these details aren’t likely to be dealbreakers, they’re very important to work out before you complete the transaction. Read your entire contract - and more importantly, make sure you fully understand it - before signing the lease. If you shop carefully and are diligent with the details, you’ll be very likely to get several happy years from your leased car. If your biggest concern is keeping monthly payments low, a lease can be a good way to drive a nice car without the hassles of ownership.

How to Choose an HVAC Company A qualified professional can help prolong the life of your HVAC system. HVAC professionals prevent equipment failure by routinely servicing and maintaining your system. The breakdown of your heating or air conditioning system can be a huge nightmare - particularly during times of extreme temperature. But even in moderate weather, the HVAC system in your home is important to your comfort and safety. Most people cannot tolerate extreme temperatures. The elderly and people with chronic health problems need to have the temperature stabilized in their homes. The best HVAC contractors are helpful and reliable, but a poor contractor can cost you extra money and heartache. Ask people in your social network for recommendations. Good word of mouth will go a long way toward helping you find the best professionals in your area. After creating a list of candidates, call the Better Business Bureau, your state’s board of contractors or the builders’ association to check on their reputations. Your town’s building inspection office may also have information for you. Avoid companies who have many complaints on their record. Upon narrowing the list, call the remaining ones and ask about pricing, guarantees and warranties. Also inquire about how long it would take to complete a job and the manufacturers’ brands they use. If you are purchasing new equipment, find out if you need a separate service contractor or if routine maintenance and repairs are included in the price of installation. Does the company provide aroundthe-clock emergency service? High quality HVAC companies are fully licensed, bonded and insured. If a worker is injured or causes damage to your property, that insurance should cover it. Otherwise, you could be liable for the damages. Your insurance premiums would likely increase as a result. Reputable HVAC companies will usually belong to recognized professional and trade organizations. Some well-known organizations include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute, and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers. Membership in one of these organizations is not automatic. Applicants

are required to have certain certifications, meet professional standards and meet or exceed other requirements before they are admitted. Before any work begins, verify that all the required building permits are in place. Most companies will file permits on your behalf at the local building codes office. But don’t assume that it has happened. Check with the permitting office first. Work done without proper permits could result in a fine and time delay. Have a load calculation done before installing a new system in any building. The best companies perform a thorough calculation rather than estimate. Build-
ings change over time due to foundations cracking or settling. It will affect the efficiency of any equipment. The HVAC company shouldn’t use the old unit to determine the proper size of a new one. If your old unit was inadequate, you will want to install a unit that is a different size. Speak with your HVAC installer to determine the right size and model for you. Ask your HVAC contractor to perform annual checkups to verify that the unit is running at peak efficiency. With these tips, you can choose a reliable HVAC business that will help you for years to come.

How to Choose an Orthodontist
D
on’t be embarrassed if you don’t have a perfect set of teeth. An orthodontist can help you achieve a smile to make you feel confident, beautiful and happy. With the help of modern technology, today’s orthodontists are able to create amazing results. But there’s a caveat: not all orthodontists are gifted practitioners. Recommendations from people in your social network will give you good leads.
Service Because treatment takes time, you should develop a good rapport with your orthodontist. You will also experience some physical discomfort while receiving treatment. That is expected. It is how this professional treats you, and the environment around you that will make a difference. The waiting area should be comforting and soothing. Focus on how the staff treats you and others. Look for an orthodontist who values your time. You should not have to wait long in the waiting room. Quality orthodontists perform most of the work on your braces themselves. Ask the doctor or receptionist how many clinical assistants they have who work on patients. The amount of time a patient spends with the orthodontist will be less in large offices with several assistants. You also need someone who can communicate clearly. Listening to questions and answering them clearly is part of their job. You are not just any patient. High quality orthodontists see you as a valued client and treat you as such. Dental assistants are part of the treatment team, so it is wise to form good relationships with them, as these professionals will help you during the process.
Technology Ask each prospective orthodontist about the technologies he or she uses and about different treatment options. If the look of your braces is important, tooth colored ceramic brackets may be an option. These are especially popular with adults and professionals who want their treatment with braces to be less noticeable. For more limited types of treatments, clear aligners may be a possibility to straighten your teeth without braces. Ask your orthodontist if you are a candidate. Your orthodontist can tell you which type of treatment will work best in your case.

Results Because results vary widely from office to office, it is critical that you evaluate the before and after treatment photos on an orthodontist’s website. How many cases are shown and does the doctor present more than just the very front views? Are the website cases actually patients of that office? Hint: Look for “Common Treatments” or “Common Orthodontic Issues”. Some photos and testimonials can be seen on websites all across the U.S., as they are stock photos of patients not treated
locally. Choose an orthodontist that will show you a large number of internet cases actually treated by the doctor you are considering.
Bottom Line Orthodontic treatment is a significant investment, but you don’t have to feel miserable while receiving it. Your doctor’s education, certification, experience and personality, along with your verification of the quality of their treatment results online, should make all the work worthwhile in the end

How to Choose a Water Park Y
ou can recreate that long day at the beach and swim in the ocean at the local water park. Water parks are the perfect family getaway, and they can be an affordable alternative to that beach vacation. The great thing about a water park is that you and the kids can have a wonderful time but do so safely. Water parks typically employ lifeguards and other professionals whose job it is to make sure the entire family has a fun — and safe — time on the water.
Location While people often think of traveling for vacation, many of today’s budget-conscious families are opting for a “staycation” instead, choosing to save money and time by visiting attractions close to their home. Visiting a water park in or near your hometown can leave you with more money to spend on luxuries and more time to enjoy with your family. The less time you spend in the car or on an airplane, the more time you’ll have to make memories.
Research If you’re planning a family vacation and want to hit the water parks in the area, it’s a good idea to do some research first. If you have children of varying ages, you’ll want to choose a park that provides attractions suitable for all ages. Some water parks cater to small kids, with lots of fun activities for the little ones but little for the older kids. Other water parks are built to thrill, which might be great for your daredevil teen but not so great for the toddler in your arms. Choosing a park with enough attractions for the whole family is the best way to keep everyone happy. The best ones will have rides suitable for a wide variety of ages and interests. In addition, indoor water parks can be a great option for people in colder climates, giving you a yearround escape no matter the weather — something Mother Nature can never promise at the beach.
Relaxation You might also want to choose a water park that gives you some down-time while the kids are playing.

Some water parks now include special areas designed specifically for parents. The parents can relax and enjoy some quiet time while the kids play nearby. This can be a great perk, especially if you have been busy catering to the young ones all day.
Season Passes If you’re looking for more ways to have fun while saving money, consider buying a season pass to your local water park. For a reasonable rate, you can buy unlimited access for your whole family at most parks, giving you an affordable way to have fun throughout the swimming season. Depending on the park, you may be able to purchase annual passes or limited passes that last for a few weeks or months. Ask the water park about their options for passes if you think there is a chance you’ll want to visit more than two or three times during the year. For people who live near a water park, season passes can be a fun and affordable way to enjoy frequent access to the park while keeping your costs fixed. Whether you buy season tickets or just enjoy a one-time visit with your family, a day at the water park is the perfect way to spend your vacation time.

How to Choose a Photographer A
high-quality picture is probably the best way to keep alive memories of key milestones, such as weddings, anniversaries or graduations. And no one is better qualified to capture that special event than a seasoned professional photographer. The best photographers are reliable and responsible. But you don’t have to break your budget to find one. Follow these tips to help you find a photographer in your area.
Styles of Photographers Even though photographers have their own styles, they tend to use one of the following three styles in their work. Some professional photographers have a journalistic approach. They do not stage photos. Rather, they prefer to record what happens. The second style is formal. It is a more traditional approach. These photographers take mostly posed photographs. Finally, some photographers use a mixture of both philosophies.
Research Photographers First, look for on the Internet for photographers in your area. Many photographers specialize in specific types of events. Be sure that the photographers who interest you match the type of event you are holding. Photographers usually display their best work on the Internet. Remember that everyone is capable of getting a good shot every now and then, but you should see wide range of striking images that displays their capability. Follow them on Facebook and other social media. Professional photographers prefer to publicize their work using the latest technology. It will give you a feeling of their portfolio as well as how busy they are. Once you have your list narrowed down to two or three, contact them to check their availability. High-quality photographers are usually in demand, especially during holidays and certain times of the year. It is essential to plan ahead. You can also inquire with your social network about photographers they have used, especially if
H32
Sunday, April 10, 2016
they have photos of themselves that you like.
Interview Photographers When you find two or three photographers who are available, conduct personal interviews with each of them. Explore their backgrounds and look at a complete portfolio. Ask each professional if he has ever worked with the other vendors you have hired or are considering. Find out about his plans for the shoot. Has the photographer ever worked at that location before? Will a photographer or assistant be shooting the event? If there are particular shots you like, communicate that to your photographer. Look through magazines and show him pictures to see if he could replicate the look and feeling. Inquire about whether you will receive printed
proofs, or if they are available through a private page for you or anyone interested in buying them. A high-quality professional will be able to bring out the best in the subject. He will capture the essence of the moment and preserve it forever. You should be offered several options concerning poses, prints, sizes, backgrounds and other elements. Read the contract thoroughly before hiring someone. Professional photographers should be willing to give you a contract. A deposit will hold your date. Expect to have it available at the signing of the contract. Also understand when other payments are due. Most photographers expect another payment when they appear at the event. Choosing a photographer will often come down to your intuition. But don’t delay, as the best photographers are usually in demand. And make sure you understand everything in the contract before you sign it.
