The new blueprint includes open floor plans, media interaction, extra built-in storage space for Barbie’s expansive wardrobe, an office for her 125+ careers and specialty rooms for her numerous pets and guests. An exercise in evolving, livable art, Barbie’s Dream Home reflects the architectural parlance of our time, much like Billings’ treasured Parade of Homes.

For 25 years, local builders and designers have put together a dazzling array of area “dream homes, an experiential treat just as satisfying and magical as unwrapping that first plastic dollhouse. With childlike wonder, Parade attendees can lose themselves in the fine finishings and grandiose floor plans offered by this year’s selection of homes. And, because it’s the Parade’s 25th anniversary, expect to see a few surprises along the way—like the chance to win a $600,000 dream home of your very own.

Even Barbie will be impressed.

Pushing the boundaries of design, these builders gathered the very latest in home trends to create inspired spaces for living. And that’s not all. Island at Rock Creek:

Majestic Mountain Retreat

is the curious, oversized elk antler chandelier designed by Doug Norwood of North Mountain Gallery in Cody, Wyo. A custom metal rail and stair system leads guests upstairs—or—for a speedier departure, take the elevator. Accented with stained glass front door, the elevator’s interior is a combination of wood and fabric, featuring a Schonbek Milano crystal chandelier. rich finishings and craftsman touches throughout. The main living area, foyer and kitchen features striking acacia engineered hardwood and macadamia-colored walls. Everything about this home invites and welcomes.

Crisp mountain air, the gurgling lull of Rock Creek and views as far as the eye can see—while some plan vacations to Red Lodge, other savvy homeowners opt to put down roots and live there. And why not? Panoramic vistas of the Beartooth Mountains and Mount Maurice line the quaint hamlet. Dappled in beauty with ample opportunity for recreation, Red Lodge exudes the type of bygone appeal coveted by big city executives and native Montanans alike. And just three blocks from downtown Red Lodge lies a luxurious and contemporary housing community, the Island at Rock Creek.

The kitchen features knotty alder cabinets, perfectly complementing the red-toned knotty alder island. A blue-fire granite counter with travertine backsplash subtly contrasts while tying the room together. Two farmhouse sinks—one clay and one bronze—make cook prep and entertaining a snap. Faucets and fixtures complement the hardware in antique bronze. A half-moon shaped bar topped with blue-fire granite extends from the cleanup area and comfortably seats six.

Featuring a Parade home that bursts the barn doors off of rustic luxury living, the Island at Rock Creek is more than quaint. It’s a parcel of land where inhabitants can reconnect with nature—and themselves.

Across the living room, a stacked stone fireplace anchors the space with striking granite hearth and artisan hand-hammered front with diamond mosaic back. Also of note

Upstairs, the master suite is a study in unadulterated relaxation. Featuring a private fireplace with custom mantle, it’s the perfect place to cozy-up and read. Or, take your book outdoors via the creekside deck and listen to the quiet lull of Rock Creek while you drift to sleep. The master bath continues with the relaxation vibe, offering a soaking tub and decorative hand-hammered fireplace front to enhance the view. Each of the other two bedrooms features an ensuite bathroom and creekside or hillside deck. Attention to the fact that the outside is as important as the interior, the developers designed the property with four separate decks, each comprised of Evergrain “Envision” decking material in spiced teak and rustic walnut. A spacious two-car garage and relaxing hot tub round out the exterior in this ruggedly beautiful mountain home.

An in-home elevator offers an air of added delight with stained glass front and wooded accents.

Opulent Oasis

A watermelon and green-colored playroom is the perfect place for youngsters to daydream and imagine. While the grey and blue boy’s room (with secret passthrough door) is the perfect place to explore or play hide-and-goseek.

Tucked away just off Rimrock Road on Billings’ West End is a sanctuary like none other, featuring 5,000 square feet of luxurious living. On the exterior, the home’s rustic lodge accents enmesh with industri-alized design notes to create a grand entrance that’s nothing short of spectacular. A custom-crafted archway fashioned from wood and bent laminated beams offers a rich, masculine vibe, but it’s softened by the vaulted barrel entry and pillars. Inside, the grand foyer leads to the great room, which is embellished with ample natural light and natural travertine stone fireplace. Situated perfectly for entertaining, the home’s kitchen offers every modern amenity including walnut cabinetry, sparkling granite counters with grey veins, hidden pantry and prep sink with ice maker. Just off the kitchen, the wellappointed home office features a posh, quiet nook to concentrate or read. A chic barn-door entry

means the inhabitants won’t be disturbed by noise in the next room and faux-grid ceiling infuses a sense of grandeur, echoed by the raised ceilings and oversized windows. Down the hall, the master suite effuses comfort. Spacious and well-lit, the master closet offers picture-perfect views of the Rims—just the right way to start your day. The master bath is appointed with a free-standing soaking tub, heated tile, spa shower with crystalline tile work and direct access to the home’s back patio and hot tub. The home’s laundry and mud rooms were also built for function, offering abundant storage space, built-ins and custom cabinetry.

Spritely use of color hallmarks the downstairs bedrooms—each

Hidden walk-in pantry offering gobs of storage on neatlyappointed shelves.

Family-fun night will erupt naturally around the home’s spacious home theater, or for a more kicked-back dose of fun—game night. Outdoors, the back yard features a two-tiered stamped and stained patio with a built-up wall and gas fireplace framing the periphery. Be sure to note the patinaed cedar beams, exposed with tongue-and-groove soffit, beautifully complementing the home’s thunderstorm-green exterior. A backyard creek, outdoor kitchen and gorgeous rock work punctuate the space. But that’s not all.

Downstairs, a built-in bar with floating cabinets spells fun for indoor entertainment. The unique cabinets—which are grey-stained alder—mesh perfectly with the basement’s sleek, clean design.

An oversized garage, kept private by frosted glass panels, separates the home from the best feature of the home. An underground pool and pool house—to be shared with the neighboring three homes—makes the final splash on this amazing property.

Brown Construction:

Twist on Tradition

enough for guests to spread out, the patio overlooks an immaculately landscaped, private backyard.

Todd Brown, the principal behind Brown Builders, elevates homebuilding to a masterful art. His distinctive style blends traditional architecture with pops of the unexpected – and the result is truly extraordinary. But before Brown applies layers of luxe finishes, even before the frame is raised, he does something that sets him apart. Every home foundation is set with helical piers, or steel shafts drilled deep in the soil, to help protect against settling. It’s just one of the many behind-the-scenes upgrades that deliver peace of mind. That attention to perfection plays out fully in the elegant flow and function inside this year’s Parade home. Warm vanilla walls, gleaming hickory floors and dark alder trim set the stage, projecting a welcoming spirit rich with tradition. From the spacious foyer, the eye dances to the great room where a soft leather sofa and cozy chairs beckon. Across from the seating area, firelight from the Rumford-

style hearth fills the room with ethereal glow. Twin built-in bookcases on either side of the fireplace display Western-inspired art and artifacts befitting a gentrified manor.

The spa-like experience continues in the master bath finished in soothing colors of seashell, sand and thick cream. Airy with highend finishes, the ensuite features dual sinks, a soaking tub, full walkin shower plus separate commode.

The heart of this home is the deluxe kitchen. Fitted with chef-grade stainless appliances, including a six-burner gas cooktop and double ovens, novice cooks and savvy gourmands alike will relish expanding their epicurean skills. The upscale vibe continues with custom walnut cabinetry, a sand-colored glass subway tile backsplash and sparkling quartz countertops. In the center of the kitchen, the oversized island provides extra room for prepping – or a place to gather and nosh. The base of the island is finished with black-glazed bead board, lending a vintage vibe to the space. Rustic Edison bulb pendants over the island and a similarly-styled chandelier in the formal dining area echo the sentiment without overpowering.

The expression of refined living extends seamlessly to the lower level, starting with illuminated treads on the down staircase. Large and polished, the family room is an inviting space to watch movies or play billiards or poker in the game area. A wet bar with a wine refrigerator and bar top is an inviting place for guests to gather for refreshments. Behind the bar, another doorway leads to a private wine cellar and tasting room. Adding to the ambiance, Brown commissioned a mural that makes the space appear like an aged winery. Two additional bedrooms with a Jack and Jill bath plus another powder room complete the lower living area.

with Edison-style pendant lighting infusing a warm glow to the room. A connected dining room leads to the back patio via sliding glass door. To the left, a garage entry makes loading and unloading a cinch. Soft, patterned carpeting leads guests upstairs to a multi-purpose family room.

It’s no secret. The folks at McCall Development like to do things differently. Instead of boasting square footage and behemoth structures, the design and development teams emphasize green building techniques, efficiency and community. “We like to think of ‘community’ as a verb,” said designer Erin McCall. “At Josephine Crossing, neighbors truly care for one another, and we literally do life together.” Walking kids to the bus stop, keeping an eye on one another and swapping chores are just some of the qualities McCall points to as positives in living at Josephine Crossing. “We are close-knit, that’s for sure,” McCall said. “Our motto is to empower people and build community.” And the McCalls’ special take on design helps to foster that promise. Several modern-day homes are designed with the garage in front of the property and the living quar-

ters tucked back. The McCalls do just the opposite—a country-style porch and well-manicured lawn fill the space normally inhabited by a garage. “This increases visibility and livability,” McCall said. “You can easily watch the kids play outside.” And while the exterior of the home is cleverly situated, it is inside where the fun begins. Offering 2,020 square feet of living space, the three-bedroom, twoand-a-half bath home features a convenient “drop zone” at the front entrance, perfect for stowing books, bags and sneakers. A contemporary color palette of snowy white, dove grey and charcoal paints the interior of the home, further accented by oversized plank flooring in barn wood grey. The design has a midcenturymodern feel, evidenced by the clean lines, light fixtures and free-flowing space. The living room is anchored by a white fireplace and mantle, mirroring the clean palette in the kitchen. A glistening crystal backsplash adds sparkle to the kitchen,

Artful elegance abounds in this warmly inviting home built by Shane Fuchs, owner of Rimrock Builders. With an eye for details that make an impact, Fuchs punches up the “wow” factor with aplomb. Subtle touches, like the illuminated shelving flanking the tiled fireplace and tiny specs of glistening teal glass in the dove and crème quartz countertop, elevate the sense of sophistication. Yet, Fuchs also employs bold bursts of drama. Step into the main floor office and be spellbound by the exquisite mural. Like a painting in the Louvre, the image of a metropolitan skyline superimposed with a partial face of an unknown woman captivates and mesmerizes. Created by renowned artist Cindy Smith, her talent is beautifully showcased in other areas of the home as well.
