Classic Design Homes:
4209 Trotter Lane By BRITTANY CREMER
Heights Haven
The master suite mirrors the look and tone of the rest of the home, featuring tray ceilings accented in rope lighting, abundant natural light and walk-in closet with custom built-ins (remember that laundry pass-through.) The master bath features beautiful tile work, ample counter space and built-in nooks for beauty supplies like curling irons and blow dryers.
room and master suite—so the homeowner won’t have to lug any clothes to the laundry room.
Amid the burgeoning Antelope Hills Subdivision in Billings’ Heights sits a behemoth of comfort, luxury and recreation. Featuring a unique floor plan with nearly as much dedicated space to the garage and workshop as the main floor, this home was designed for a discerning homeowner with trucks, toys, tools, RVs and more.
Latte-colored walls and oversized plank flooring add to the richness of the home’s interior. Ten-foot ceilings on the main floor and crown moldings throughout dovetail on this sentiment. The home’s great room features a custom stone hearth and rough-hewn mantle. Awash in natural light, the living/dining/great room glows in radiant layers.
At 2300 square feet, the impressive three-car garage and workshop is connected to a double RV garage. A convenient third garage door is located at the back of the RV garage—increasing access to riding mowers, bikes and the like.
A sparkling tile backsplash in hues of grey and lavender paints the kitchen, further accented by custom range hood, white swirl granite counters and cherry cabinets. And just beyond the kitchen island lies another surprise—a hidden walk-in pantry concealed by a cleverly-installed cabinet door.
Separating the RV garage and the custom workshop are lightweight sliding barn wood doors—a noteworthy and attractive aesthetic. Inside, the surprises continue.
Outside, an attractive stamped and stained patio offers incredible views to the north and east—be sure to note the home’s unique windmill and decorative water pump positioned just off the patio.
A well-appointed mud/laundry room is outfitted with custom cabinetry in cherry wood by Steve Kirkwood Construction. For ease of use, a convenient pass-through was installed between the laundry
Downstairs, a spacious family room with wet bar opens up to the left via another set of sliding barnwood doors to reveal a stateof-the-art home theater. To the right of the family room resides, perhaps, the most interesting and extraordinary feature in the entire home—a room that’s literally hidden to the naked eye and accessible only via secret entry. The “hidden room” is a special space dedicated to the homeowner’s passion for hunting, allowing for a special mudroom nook for hanging up apparel and boots and additional display space for firearms and mounts. Corrugated steel accents and elk horn knob pulls add to the outdoorsy vibe. Back down the hallway is a room designed especially for another hobby—crafting. With built-in shelving and slots for storage, the room is the perfect space for scrapbooking or sewing. Whole-home surround sound, a central vacuuming system and RO water system round out the sprawling beauty’s additional amenities.

Ban Construction:
6232 Canyonwoods Drive Contemporary Craftsman
By ALLYN HULTENG
At day’s end, the master suite offers a calm retreat with a muted palette of sandstone, caramel and grey. A sliding barn door leads to a spa-like ensuite. Finished in soothing tones of grey and taupe, the bath features an oversized, curved mosaic shower, a garden tub, dual sinks with a tower in the center and separate commode. Two generously-sized walk-in closets are fitted with rods, shelving and slats for shoes.
With a flair for melding the traditional with the inspired, Tana and Brian Ban once again deliver a Parade entry that is as exquisite as it is inviting. Located in the desirable Ironwood subdivision, this 4,800square-foot beauty features four bedrooms plus a main level office, four and half baths, a finished garage with four bays and stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Stepping across the threshold, guests are immediately enveloped in sense of warmth and nostalgic charm. Inside, sunlight pours through oversized windows, bathing the main living area in natural light. Reminiscent of grand manors of old, the great room is a study in customized refinement. Pale, sandstone-colored walls offer a delightful contrast to the gleaming hickory plank floor. Above, a sophisticated coffered ceiling with dark alder beams creates a dramatic statement echoed by the elegant alder and stone-clad
fireplace. On either side of the fireplace, floating wood shelves add a subtle contemporary note. The blend of traditional and unique is fully expressed in the masterful kitchen. Creamy glazed cabinetry paired with quartz countertops in shades of bronze and grey create a classic backdrop to the inspired island. In a departure from tradition, the island base was constructed in a wavy pattern then finished with small glass tiles in shades of taupe, grey and bronze. Gracing the top is a custom walnut counter also shaped like a swirl. Open to both the kitchen and great room, the dining area features a deep tray ceiling edged in dark alder with a faux finish ceiling. In warmer months, outdoor entertaining will be a breeze on the covered deck. Outfitted with a built-in grill, a sandstone bar and barstools, gas fire pit and wired for music, family and friends can enjoy themselves long after the sun sets.
The lower level pulls out all the stops in creating an action-packed environment. Extra wide stairs lead to a deluxe family room made bright and airy with an oversize egress window. In the corner, the large, pub-style bar becomes party central. With a wine refrigerator, icemaker, sink and dishwasher there’s no need to trek up to the main kitchen for snacks and refreshments. One room over, the theater replicates the thrill of the big screen with tiered seating, wall sconces and a tray ceiling rimmed with rope lighting. Popcorn lovers will appreciate the island and stools in the back row meant for munching treats. Attention to detail continues with the gorgeous barrel ceiling in the hallway, which leads past a nook with a floating desk to two additional bedrooms each with a full bath. In every way, this luxe home more than meets the needs of professionals and busy families alike. continued on F8

extend to the private spaces. A powder room off the main entry features a carved stone sink sitting atop a base of polished and rough squares of granite. The squares undulate inward and outward creating a lovely harlequininspired pattern. TV or, alternatively, a dramatic piece of art.
With clean lines and a distinctly modern flair, the exterior of this elegant home hints at the refined finishes inside. Built by Emineth Custom Homes, the residence features 4,800 square feet of luxury living, including six bedrooms and five baths.
Opposite the great room is a true chef’s kitchen. Viking brand, stainless steel appliances including a gas cook top, double ovens and refrigerator set the expectation for quality — and this kitchen doesn’t disappoint. Dark chocolate, shaker-style cabinetry paired with pale granite countertops in shades of crema, pearl, nickel and toffee exude refinement, as does the pale grey subway tile backsplash. In the center, an oversized island with a prep sink is the perfect place for the host to finish her preparations while guests sit on the opposite side, enjoying a beverage and lively conversation.
The open-concept living area projects a sense of sophisticated splendor. Hand-textured, dovegrey walls contrast handsomely against the rich, espresso-stained hardwood flooring. Throughout, large windows and walls of glass allow sunlight to flood the interior, giving the space a natural airiness. While the living room, dining area and kitchen flow seamlessly together, each space offers a different experience. In the great room, a sleek, floor-to-ceiling feature wall clad in polished porcelain tile creates an elegant focal point. The lower portion of the wall features a horizontal gas insert with a base of tiny crystals that artfully reflect the flame. Above, a pre-wired inset is ready to house a large flat-screen
Adjacent to the kitchen and overlooking the manicured backyard, the formal dining area radiates a light and airy vibe. In warmer weather, guests can easily mix and mingle between the dining area and the outdoor living space, which includes a bi-level deck and lower-level fire pit. The gracious appointments

Off the main living, the master suite has a Zen-like quality. Generous in size, with fawn-colored walls and thick carpeting, the bedroom is warm and welcoming. The private bath features a soaking tub plus a walk-in shower with multiple jets that can be set customized using the digital touchscreen control. Two additional roomy bedrooms and another full bath complete the main floor. Not to be outdone, the lower level offers a wonderful place to gather. Nine-foot ceilings coupled with large egress windows create a sense of spaciousness. Movie buffs will enjoy the home theater with projector and surround sound. Before the show, guests can nosh on snacks and beverages from the bar which features espresso-stained cabinetry, a mini-refrigerator and bi-level, granite bar top. The flooring in the bar area was crafted using Reflector brand epoxy in gun smoke grey, which is not only striking but makes clean up a snap. A guestroom with an ensuite bath plus two more bedrooms, another full bath and a concrete safe room finish the space.

3904 RETREAT DRIVE Farmhouse Fantastique

A spiffy butler’s pantry and wine nook just off the kitchen leads into the formal dining area. Awash in abundant natural light, a subtle transom ceiling divider separates the dining room from the formal sitting room, which could also double as a home office.
from the elements.
Ushering waves of bucolic beauty, this striking home by Kenmark Construction features charming touches enmeshed with contemporized flair. “The overall feel of the home is that of a farmhouse,” said builder Mark Allen, “but you’ll be sure to note modernized touches throughout.” Sited between Billings and Laurel off River Road, the views offered from this home are like something from a cinematographer’s portfolio. Breathtaking and serene, the verdant landscaping and a private apple orchard further add to the property’s wild-and-free sentiment. The home’s rich brick-red exterior is accented with a bronzecolored soffit and midnight black trim. Accents in vanilla crème frame the windows and doors. A covered front porch subtly welcomes guests to the estate while Trex™ decking along the periphery ensures the home is protected
Inside, a striking two-story fireplace anchors the great room— outfitted with actual wood-burning stove. Wood plank flooring in hickory perfectly complements the magnificent structure. The owners of the pre-sold home enjoy the simplicity and beauty in cutting their own firewood, Allen said. Textured ceilings draw the eyes aloft, while curious industrial accents—like unique iron pulley fixture and reclaimed wood beams— add interest to the main level. The kitchen counter, accented in stone and glistening quartz counters, separates the great room from the kitchen. A study in rustic charm and efficiency, the kitchen features unique crème distressed cabinetry on the top and rich alder cabinets on the bottom. An oversized farmhouse sink is situated perfectly in the center for food prep and cleanup.
On the opposite end of the home, the master suite features vaulted ceilings, a dazzling chandelier-inspired fixture, walk-in closet and spa-like master bath, complete with jetted soaking tub, exquisite tile work and white-worn cabinetry, similar to those in the kitchen. Splashed in hues of grey and crème, the entire home warms and invites while simultaneously effusing a contemporary, posh affect. Nineteen-foot ceilings in the great room evoke a sense of grandeur, further enhanced by the overlooking catwalk upstairs. Ultra-plush carpeting upstairs feels like walking on a cloud. Two guest bedrooms and an additional bathroom round out the upper level, which features a separate heating and cooling system from the main floor.

Just off Poly Drive in the heart of Billings is a home that encapsulates both a conservation ethic and contemporary style. One for the architectural memory books, nearly every element in this home is nuanced, offering just enough twist on the traditional to make it both interesting and enduring. Upon entry, guests will immediately be enveloped by the rich beauty of the home’s living room, anchored by a sprawling hearth, custom cabinets, shimmering tile and gas fireplace. Above the cozy space, a fantastic surprise—a hidden, suspended television comes out of the ceiling at the touch of a button. A unique recessed tray ceiling adds texture and dimension to the open space. A few steps off the living room, the home’s den features an additional fireplace and oversized, eight-foot door. For additional clerical space, the floorplan was designed with an extra “floating” office space adjacent the stairs. This area comes equipped with custom file cabinets, no-show
Just around the corner, the master suite—really a master wing— exudes luxury, comfort and quiet repose. The master bedroom itself is modest in design and layout, but the bath and closet accoutrements are nothing short of spectacular. An ensuite laundry room with floating cabinets adds ease and efficiency while the stone-lined “wet room” features a luxurious bath/ shower, heated towel rack and radiant heat floors. The spacious, well-appointed vanity makes getting ready a cinch, while the exclamation point (a closet big enough to house a full-sized Suburban) provides ample storage space. The kitchen is as elegant as it is functional, a true epicurean masterpiece. With a solid-surface island planking the width of the living room, there is ample space to prep and entertain. Transomtopped charcoal-colored cabinets offer just enough decorative space to display heirloom dishes or décor. And state-of-the-art appliances and fixtures add a degree of
An on-site greenhouse and raised gardening beds cultivate both interest and bountiful crops. And, when the homeowner tires of sowing seeds, a dip in the underground pool makes for a perfect reward. Partially powered by solar panels, the home also boasts an impressive water reclamation system— which collects 2/3 of drained roof water and later reuses it. Completing the trifecta of outdoor relaxation is the home’s builtin BBQ and fireplace with adjacent fire pit. In short, this home is for enjoying—and celebrating—the outdoors. Back inside, floating stairs lead guests down to the expansive family room and—wait for it— temperature-controlled wine cellar. Under-cabinet LED lighting, builtins and ample storage punctuate the space. Whole-home audio, security, gated entry and doggie wash station just off the oversized two-car garage further embellish the incredible 4,375-square-foot marvel.

s n o i t a l u t a r Cong to our Builders...
Remember cathedral ceilings? How about sunken living rooms, skylights and palladium windows (large arched window flanked by smaller rectangular windows)? These were just a few of the architectural features made popular in the 1990s. That was the decade that also saw an explosion of oak – as in oak cabinetry, oak trim, oak and brass light fixtures. The applications for oak were seemingly endless. And all that oak went beautifully with hunter green walls, wallpaper and ivy-themed trim in the kitchen and bedroom. We also experimented with sponge painting, a sort of primitive precursor to today’s uber-refined faux painting arts. Transitional spaces in the 1990s were notable for sheer size and geometric complexity. Super-vaulted entryways that opened to stairs stretching to the second level became commonplace. And then there were the giant wooden decks with planks zigging and zagging in intricate patterns (the more tiers, the better.) Not to completely dismiss the ‘90s. Like all trends, savvy builders culled the best attributes and added forward-thinking designs that result in the exquisite homes we see today.
