Saving and Changing Lives and Empowering Women One in three
That is the rate women in our region experience domestic violence and sexual assault. If someone you know is experiencing abuse… YWCA Gateway can assist.
Child Center
YWCA Child Center’s school readiness curriculum and licensed, loving childcare have been positively changing the lives of children and families for more than 30 years.
Employment & Training YWCA Billings’ Employment & Training Center assists adults to access marketable skills training and overcoming barriers to land full-time jobs that lead to self-sufficiency.

Gateway
As the only domestic violence shelter in an 18,512 square mile area, Gateway provides safe shelter for victims of domestic and sexual violence. Going beyond safe harbor, Gateway programs empower women to move forward into employment; secure housing; stronger emotional health; personal safety―and ultimately, a life free from violence and poverty.
Child Center
YWCA Child Center provides a safe and enriching environment where children ages 6 months to 6 years develop school readiness, learn about social interaction, enjoy healthy outdoor and indoor play, and benefit from healthy meals. Many families with children enrolled in the Child Center and Pre-K program receive financial assistance with monthly fees.
Employment & Training
Making a significant impact in people’s lives, our unique Employment and Training Center program assists adults in overcoming barriers to securing full-time employment that is required to sustain themselves and their families. Clients gain necessary skills to be successful in today’s competitive job market, and land jobs that lead to self-sufficiency.

Taking a Stand to End Violence against Women and Children
Jeremy Vannatta, YVW Magazine
Jarvis Gust, Bureau of Indian Affairs
One in three. It is difficult to believe, but that is the rate at which women in our region experience domestic violence, sexual assault or harassment and stalking. Frequently, women seeking safe harbor at the YWCA Gateway Domestic Violence Shelter tell the support staff, “I didn’t know how bad it could get. You are quite literally life savers―without the shelter opportunity I would have suffered further with him just to keep a roof over my head.” The fastest growing sector of women being hurt in their relationships are women ages 18 to 30. The young age of these victims means we need to use innovative ways to get information to them. YWCA’s outreach includes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, television and newspaper advertising, billboards and mall advertising, and old fashioned “word of mouth.” YWCA Billings has a goal to reach every woman in our area who needs our support. She could be your daughter, your sister, your colleague, your neighbor or your friend. YWCA Billings People Helping People

Gateway provides a “toolkit” with practical advice on how to break the cycle of violence and poverty. It is free of charge, as are YWCA’s 24-hour phone and text help lines and the shelter we provide for women and children fleeing violence. Our ability to help them is made possible through community donations. You can play a meaningful role in spreading the word about Gateway and YWCA’s other life-saving and life-changing programs. Please take a stand to end violence against women and children―with your support we can save and change lives!
Help us reduce the number of times a woman is hurt before she takes action— or loses her life.

Dress for Success Billings is also honored for providing interview and employment attire for underprivileged women—including some who come from YWCA’s Gateway Programs for victims of domestic and sexual violence and women who are helped through our Employment and Training Center. And for the first time, YWCA is honoring a male who goes above and beyond in supporting women. Jeremy Vannatta of YVW Magazine didn’t think twice when asked to take a stand for YWCA’s domestic violence awareness campaign. He is a strong advocate for females and believes that men should use their voices and take an active role in helping to save and change women s lives. YWCA Salutes these exceptional individuals and many more like them who make our community an outstanding place to live!

Lending a Helping Hand
While financial support is a primary need, volunteers also make significant and meaningful contributions. YWCA is grateful for the many people and organizations in our community who step up to assist in saving and changing lives. In the past year, 400 volunteer hours in the Child Center and 3,200 hours of volunteer time in the Gateway program directly benefitted the women and children we serve. With more than 8,000 nights of safe harbor provided each year, the Gateway Shelter is in constant need of repair and renewing. Western Security Bank’s Hands of Hope program refurbished shelter bedrooms and the kitchen. Donations from American Lutheran Church covered hallway and stairwell painting, and Yellowstone Electric provided lighting. While work was underway in the shelter, Sanctuary Spa employees treated Gateway residents to haircuts and manicures. United Way of Yellowstone County’s Day of Caring brings companies and volunteers to YWCA each year. These include G.E. Capital, Saint Vincent Healthcare, CHS (Cenex), Payne West and others. Zonta Club provides speakers and information outreach for YWCA’s Employment and Training Career Connections program. To all of those we mention and the many others we could not name—thanks for making an enormous impact on the health and well-being of people we serve throughout our community!
