Launched in 2020 Teremana Small Batch Tequila, which loosely translates to ‘spirit of the earth’, is a 100% Blue Weber agave Tequila crafted amidst the highest peaks of the Jalisco Highland mountains in Mexico and after just one year of trading, the hard working entrepreneurial actor has set a record selling nearly 300,000 9-liter cases during its first year despite launching during a worldwide pandemic, putting this into context, Casamigos, which George Clooney eventually soldfor $1 billion, sold 175,000 cases in the first year.

For those who follow “The Rock” on Instagram will know that Johnson is a BIG tequila fan and has long dreamed of launching his own tequila brand and unlike other celebrity-led brands this is more than just a name attached to a bottle. Over the past few years he’s been intimately involved in the curation of the project working closely with a multi-generational distilling family who collectively have gone through 113 distillations before finally reaching the perfect blend that embodies passion, positivity, hard work and fun.

In an Instagram Johnson wrote “The goal is to create a tequila that is the best of quality and taste, but done the right way – by hand. This blessing is truly a dream come true—but it’s just the beginning and there’s much work to be done. I’m committed with my team to bring you the best tequila, because quality and legacy are what matter most” creating a “Tequila of the People.”

In creating Teremana Tequila it has also given Johnson the opportunity to get in touch with his heritage and cultural roots. Johnson has a Samoan mother and was raised in New Zealand and Hawaii. This is where the very name of ‘Teremana’ comes into play with ‘tere’ translating to the Earth while ‘mana’ means spirit. He’s also kept the brand close to his roots by not allowing it to become an overlyexpensive luxury item, instead, offering quality taste at an affordable price. Speaking with Forbes Johnson said “When we first launched our Teremana brand, many said that I was crazy to deliver such a high quality tequila at such an affordable price, but to me the most important ‘P word’ in my business isn’t profit - it’s people. And that’s why Teremana, will always be the tequila of the people,” he said.

The line currently consists of two versions Blanco and Reposado, both are 80%proof, low-calorie, zero-sugar, zero-carbs and gluten free the perfect go-to spirit for the healthy jetset which is right up Johnson’s street who travels with his own portable “Iron Paradise” gym

Other A-listers who have developed bankable alcoholic brands include George Clooney, Ryan Reynolds, and John Legend.

Of course, the actor and former wrestling star isn’t the first celebrity to launch a tequila brand: actor and friend of Johnson’s George Clooney owns Casamigos, which sold to Diageo for $1 billion.
