Yacht designer Steve Kozloff has revealed his latest superyacht concept; the Arctic Owl

Designed for scientific research and exploration, Arctic Owl is fast and light featuring a helicopter hangar and dedicated garage to accommodate a U-Boat Worx NEMO Submarine. Powered by two Cummins hybrid diesel-electric engines, Arctic Owl has a cruise speed of 16 knots extending to a top speed of 18 knots over a range of 6000 nautical miles.

Equipped with a steel, ice class hull and aluminium superstructure, Arctic Owl balances a robust exterior with a luxurious interior offering accommodation for a total of 10 guests in six staterooms with a staff of six crew.

The dedicated garage designed to accommodate the U-Boat Worx NEMO submarine comes with an easy launch and recovery system one of Kozloff’s most recent invention. She also has a separate dedicated garage for the tenders, both port and starboard, resulting in an effortless launch and recovery system. There is also an enormous swimming pool and lounging area which includes an automated hard cover that becomes a gazebo when the pool is in use.

Even with her strong utilitarian features the Arctic Owl does not compromise in luxury and beauty, the prominent contours and extensive glazing of the yacht offers an unique interior space for an interior designer’s masterpiece. The views are unrestricted almost anywhere on this explorer--from the view of the bow cockpit to the panoramic windows at the stern located over the hangar deck. One can easily see everything from the ocean to the night sky.

The Arctic Owl includes two free-fall lifeboats for crew and guests that will accommodate 8 people each.

DAMEN YACHTING UPDATES SEAXPLORER 77 EXPEDITION YACHT

The new SeaXplorer 77 expedition yacht model will have an increased focus on exploration lifestyle

Following the first three sales from Damen Yachting’s SeaXplorer range and 2020’s milestone deliveries, Damen Yachtinghas announced plans to introduce a new look SeaXplorer 77 from its range of luxury expedition yachts. The SeaXplorer 77 is the first in an updated SeaXplorer line-up, the result of a comprehensive review by the in-house SeaXplorer design team together with exterior stylists Azure Yacht Design and operational design partners EYOS Expeditions.

The update’s features include a multipurpose aft deck that can be modified for a wide variety of owner-specified requirements, for example deploying a seaplane or hangaring a large seven-person submarine. All SeaXplorers are now also offered with hybrid electric drive propulsion (PTO/PTI configuration) and battery bank for highly efficient cruising.

For those looking to explore sunny climates a number of features specifically for tropical destinations have been added, including an upper deck swimming pool and party and DJ dance space large enough for 150 guests. Other updates include the inclusion of a multipurpose aft deck that can be modified for owner-specified requirements, such as accommodating a submarine hangar or storing and deploying a seaplane

Speaking about the redesign, SeaXplorer design manager Enrique Tintore explained:

“Visiting the polar regions once in their lifetimes is on nearly every SeaXplorer client’s bucket list,” Enrique says. “But so are many tropical areas where the operational challenges shouldn’t be underestimated. It’s about staying safe in isolation, but also about enjoying the yachting lifestyle to the maximum. In fact, you don’t need to go very far from the major superyacht hubs before the benefits of an explorer yacht become clear. That’s the philosophy that our line-up reflects.”

THE FUTURE IS NOW: BERING YACHTS INTRODUCES THE COBRA CONCEPT

The Cobra concept by Bering Yachts pushes the design envelope while retaining the US brand’s signature focus on functionality and superior design

Turkish yacht builder Bering Yachts has revealed a 55 metre explorer yacht model called the Cobra based on a steel hull that can be adapted to various sizes. The outstanding feature is that Cobra has complete upper deck entirely devoted to open-air entertaining, dining and partying – enough open space for everything.

“The Cobra is a new type of explorer vessel based on a steel hull that can be adapted to various sizes,” says Alexei Mikhailov, founder and President of Bering Yachts. “Most yachts lack truly big and safe open-deck areas, and what they do have is usually confined to the aft cockpit or the flybridge. With Cobra we wanted to overcome that drawback and the complete upper deck is entirely devoted to open-air entertaining, dining and partying.”

The main feature of the upper deck is the very large oval swimming pool forward, which has a transparent bottom positioned directly above the main salon below. The touch-and-go helipad is big enough to take twinengine helicopters, or even passenger drones. In the extreme bow is a cosy observation ‘nest’ for private, panoramic relaxation.

A design highlight is the semi-circular wheelhouse on the flybridge that is cantilevered over the upper deck. Behind the wheelhouse is a sky lounge and bar with glass walls and ceiling for outstanding panoramic views.

An elevator and spiral staircase span the four deck levels. On main deck there is the principle salon and master stateroom with two fixed balconies. The lower deck comprises four en-suite guest suites and the crew accommodation.

The enormous beach club/tender garage in the stern has fold-down platforms on both sides that extend the beam to 12 metres. When the tenders are deployed the area is transformed into a water-level beach area with ceiling heights of almost 4 metres and room to take a car or amphibious vehicle.

At 55 metres in length overall, Cobra has a maximum beam of 9 metres and is rated below 500GT. The reverse bow is a dynamic design feature, but also increases the waterline length for faster hull speeds. The yacht can have a hybrid propulsion package. Cobra is expected to have a top speed of 16 knots, a cruising speed of 12 knots. At cruising speed it will have an oceanic range of 5,000 nm.

Bering Yachts is renowned for its full-displacement, steel-hulled yachts that combine the autonomy and rugged construction of explorers with the spacious comfort of modern superyachts. Cobra is a daring concept that takes that philosophy to its next-generation conclusion.

HORIZON UNVEILS NEW E81 MODEL

The newly-launched E81 offers a wide beam affording plentiful interior and deck space

A new model for the popular Horizon E Series has made its debut on the U.S. market. Recently launched, the brand new E81 incorporates the sleek E Series superstructure design atop a beamy hull. As is the case with many of Horizon’s new yacht models, the custom E81 was born from the requests of her experienced owners, who were looking to move up from their current yacht and approached Horizon to design a spacious vessel that suited their cruising lifestyle.

The E Series is one of Horizon’s oldest and most popular yacht series and is characterized by a classic flybridge layout with sweeping lines that convey both style and elegance. The E81 features a high-performance hull with a 20’ 6” beam, which allows for up to four staterooms as well as a variety of engine options.

The first of new E81 commissioned by a U.S client is distinguished by an expansive open bridge that is protected by a hard top and a fixed glass windshield forward. Here, a full helm station with dual helm chairs is complemented by a large U-shaped starboard-side settee facing a bar with four bar stools to port.

Within the modern interior, which is outfitted in light oak with dark wood accents, the main salon is fitted with a large L-shaped sofa facing a pop-up television while the spacious galley to starboard has been customized with overhead cabinetry. A day head is situated to port and an internal stairway leads to the flybridge. The main deck aft offers a large teak dining table, a fully equipped wet bar and a drop-down television. Walkaround side decks lead to the foredeck area, with another spacious seating/dining area and sunpad complete with an innovative covered storage space.

The owners specified a four-stateroom layout with quarters for two crew aft. The large master suite encompasses the full beam amidships and features a custom vanity on the port side for her and a work desk on the starboard side for him. The owners’ appreciation for art has been underscored in the design of this space, which includes an “art nook” to house a sculpture piece as well as an area above the headboard specified for artwork. Forward of the master, two guest staterooms to port and starboard comprise a bunk room and a convertible twin, while a spacious VIP occupies the bow area and echoes the custom arrangements for artwork found in the master.

“Today’s yacht owner appreciates interior volume and plentiful deck space,” says Roger Sowerbutts, Director of Horizon Yacht USA. “With the E81, we’ve taken the sleek, ever-popular E Series profile and given her a beamy hull that accommodates a wide range of engine options while not compromising on performance or draft.”

Equipped with twin Onan 29kW generators and twin CAT C32 engines of 1,600hp each, the new E81 is further supported by bow and stern thrusters and Zero Speed stabilizers. The Sea Recovery watermaker offers a 900gal/day capacity and the yacht can also be remotely docked via the Wireless Yacht Controller.
