HELEN MIRREN & TAYLOR HACKFORD HOME!

Now living most of the year in a secluded mountain home on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, where she recently had to chase off a black bear from her garden, Helen Mirren and her director-husband Taylor Hackford feel that it’s time to either sell or rent their storied Hollywood Hills home of 30 years. Finding it a little hard to let go, they are offering it for sale at $18.5 million or for rent at $45,000 a month.

London-born Mirren has had a fabulous career, the only actor to achieve the Triple Crown of Acting in both the US and the UK with Oscar, Emmy and Tony awards. Her Academy Award win was for Best Actress in the film The Queen acting the part of Queen Elizabeth II. Taylor won his own Academy Award for the short film Teenage Father and has directed such favorites as An Officer and a Gentleman and Against All Odds. In 2003, Helen was appointed Dame by Queen Elizabeth for her acting career that dates back to age 20 when she starred as Cleopatra for a UK National Youth Theatre production. Helen became a U.S. citizen in 2017 and voted for the first time in the 2020 election.

Built in Hollywood’s earliest days in 1911 and located on over six acres, the 10,200-square-foot Mirren-Hackford estate includes a guest house and a total of nine bedrooms and eleven baths. A popular neighborhood with the Hollywood crowd, the home has had only four owners: Dustin Farnum, star of DeMille’s Squaw Man; Mark Hellinger, writer/producer whose short story became the Bogart/ Cagney film The Roaring Twenties; Gail Patrick, executive producer of the popular 1950’s/60’s Perry Mason television series where the home was sometimes used as a film location for the show, and Mirren-Hackford. The house has all the great features of its era, including large rooms, lots of French doors that open to the hilltop breeze, a paneled library, beautiful hardwood floors and large fireboxes in the fireplaces. One special room is the cozy bar with bar stools and comfortable sofa and chairs for more intimate entertaining. The large formal rooms and outside living area with pool and downtown views cover entertaining for large groups and family get-togethers. The early California indoor/outdoor architecture makes the house warm, inviting and relaxing for both family and friends. It’s this element and the home’s adaptability to different lifestyles that make the house a hard one for Mirren to let go. Hollywood Hills is awash with celebrity residents such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Keanu Reeves and Halle Berry. It has been the neighborhood of choice since the beginning of filmdom due to its proximity to the studios and is known for its views and star-worthy gated homes nestled behind deep privacy foliage. The listing is offered for $18.5million with Joyce Rey of Coldwell Banker Global Luxury, Beverly Hills.

MATT DAMON CUTS PACIFIC PALISADES HOME PRICE BY $3 MILLION!

Matt Damon listed his Pacific Palisades home in California for sale earlier this year yet several months on the star has lowered the price from $21 million to $17.9 million.

One of Hollywood’s most bankable stars and among the highestgrossing actors of all time, Matt Damon’s films are responsible for almost $4 billion in box office receipts. Together with his writing partner and life-long friend, Ben Affleck, Damon won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Screenplay for Good Will Hunting. As an actor, he took home a Golden Globe for his starring role in The Martian. His most recent project is the upcoming The Last Duel, which was filmed in France and Ireland during the pandemic. Damon found himself locked down for three months with director Ridley Scott and the rest of the film’s cast and crew in the small Irish town of Dalkey, about 45 minutes away from Dublin. The actor loved it so much that he reportedly considered moving to Ireland. Instead, Damon and his family have taken up residence in their $16.75 million Brooklyn Heights penthouse, at its time of sale the most expensive piece of residential real estate ever sold in Brooklyn.

Bidding farewell to Los Angeles, Damon listed his Zen-inspired Pacific Palisades mansion for sale in January for $21 million. The asking price has now been reduced to $17.9 million. Situated on the same premier street his buddy, Affleck, still calls home, Damon’s 13,508-squarefoot residence boasts seven bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, and nearly three-quarters of an acre of lushly landscaped grounds with mature trees, a koi pond, a children’s play area and a resort-style pool and spa. Master-architect Grant Kirkpatrick of KAA Design has used warm woods, natural stone and lots of glass to produce an aesthetic of timeless beauty, while including artful details throughout the spacious mansion. The home’s focal point is its central atrium with 35-foot, vaulted-mahogany ceilings that let in tons of natural light. Open floor plans and disappearing glass walls connect the sprawling living and entertaining areas. A spectacular chef’s kitchen features custom-mahogany cabinetry, Bluestone countertops, and top-of-the-line, stainless-steel appliances by Viking, Miele and Wolf. The luscious master suite includes huge dual walk-in closets, a spa-style bath with a massage room, and opens onto its own private terrace with palm tree and garden views. A game room, bar, office, gym, media room, staff quarters and wine storage and tasting room complete the stunning, gated estate.

Located on the Pacific Coast between Santa Monica and Malibu, Pacific Palisades has become one of Los Angeles’ most sought-after neighbourhoods for Hollywood’s power players. Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Billy Crystal, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, John Goodman, Steven Spielberg, Kate Hudson and Diane Keaton are just a few of Matt’s former neighbours. Private and serene, the Damon estate is moments away from the Getty Villa and Will Rogers State Beach and convenient to the world-class shopping, dining and entertainment available in Palisades Village, Brentwood, Santa Monica and The Riviera Country Club. The listing is held by Eric Haskell of The Agency. SOLD at time of going to print.

A NEW URBAN UTOPIA

Imagine you’re a billionaire fed up with the city you live in, what do you do? Well if you’re American Billionaire Marc Lore you create your own.

While billionaires Jeff Bezo, Richard Branson and Elon Musk are looking to create new living environments in space former Walmart exec Marc Lore is looking closer to home outlining plans to create a new utopian city in the American desert. Built completely from scratch - Telosa – named after the Greek word for “higher purpose” promises to be an eco-friendly and sustainable city that will cost an estimated $400 billion to create offering housing for up to five million people.

The ambitious 150,000-acre proposal promises eco-friendly architecture, sustainable energy production and a purportedly drought-resistant water system which according to Lore would allow Telosa to become “the most sustainable city in the world. Among the sites that are being considered to build this futuristic metropolis are several regions of the states of Nevada, Texas, Utah, Idaho, Arizona and the Appalachians. BIG Studio by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels have been hired to bring Lore’s vision to life and recently released a series of digital renderings. The images show residential buildings covered with greenery and imagined residents enjoying abundant open space. With fossil-fuel-powered vehicles banned in the city, autonomous vehicles are pictured traveling down sun-lit streets alongside scooters and pedestrians. Telosa’s star building dubbed the Equitism Tower, described as “a beacon of the city” features a large capacity for water storage, aeroponic farms and a photovoltaic roof that generates the energy it needs and also “allows it to share and distribute everything it produces.” In addition to innovative urban design, the project also promises transparent governance and what it calls a “new model for society.” Lore plans to focus the city on its citizens and allow it to be structured on the notion of what he calls “equitism,” an economic system where residents have shared land ownership. This has been inspired by the works of Henry George, an economist and social theorist that highlighted the flaws of capitalism, particularly regarding land ownership in the United States. Planners hope the first phase of construction, which would accommodate 50,000 residents across 1,500 acres, will welcome the first residents by 2030
